Couldn't agree more Ian. I recently needed a better, remote controllable bench supply and bought a Uni-T UDP3305S-E three channel supply. It's great! Very pleased with the user interface and the low noise output. Well made inside as well.
All for significantly less than a used Agilent supply.
Keep it up Uni-T! More lab grade equipment for sensible money please! When is the 7.5 digit bench multimeter coming?

Even if just For-Teh-Lulz, try hooking a keyboard/mouse up to the USB port. I'm quite sure it's an embedded system, possibly Linux based, and if so, it will probably accept normal PC peripherals. This could save your ass if your touchscreen stops being touchy-feely.
I tried looking up some AWG from Wavetek... nada. Goes to 50MHz and that's that. R&S? Even less.
It looks like a cool piece of kit, and I wouldn't be too harsh on the exterior design. With competition from Siglent, Rigol, Keysight, Tek, R&S and whatnot, it's not that easy to make something that looks real deal pro (which I argue is pretty subjective in this case) and doesn't infringe on anyone else's design patents. If I were Uni-T, I'd include more of their characteristic red and anthracite theming, but they don't use that on bench DMMs or PSUs either.
100k on UART? Easy peasy, lemon squeezy! You know that 115200bps is very mainstream, right?
500MHz, impressive indeed! I guess it can't pull it off simultaneously on more than one channel. Some timeslot sheaningans may be going on there.

As for j documented keyboard support (well it does come with one type of keyboard from the factory!) my Yamaha Motif XS7 runs linux and you can indeed hook a keyboard up to the memory USB port and it will work, can sometimes crash it though.

It's full bandwidth on channels 1 and 2. Channels 3 and 4 are "bonus" channels. To make all four channels full spec would have pushed the price up considerably. Our new, new products will have a much more industrial look to them. Be on the lookout.

Thank you Dave. We appreciate the impromptu review, warts and all. The feedback from you and all of our users is very important to us. We are striving to make world-class test instruments, here at Uni-Trend. We love to hear what we're doing right, but when we miss, we listen and we learn and we improve.
For the record, we don't know of any other manufacturer doing a 4Ch Arb like this, either. To keep price tag reasonable, we did decide to not make all 4 channels full bandwidth. Channels 1 and 2 are full spec channels, as you would expect. Based on feedback, that might be changed in the next version. Consider having two extra channels at ~200MHz as a bonus. When you look at what others charge for a 2Ch 500MHz function generator with similar specifications, we feel we are giving tremendous value.
We are looking forward to having you do a full review on our UTG9504T (which is also available as 350MHz and 600MHz for channels 1 and 2).
Thank you to all the viewers for your comments. We are very excited about what's coming.

Easy to fix the front panel, change colour of the plastic to a darker grey, plus make sure you Pantone match the port colours to the screen on a reference unit. Just need to do a better job on the UI colour, set up a better contrast colour to show the current cursor position, and make that fade out a little smoother, or widen to have only at the end 20 pixels of each window instead. Would also suggest having 2 USB ports on the front, or another 2 on the rear, so you can have storage there, and a separate pointing device, and a separate HDMI output on the rear as well, so you can use a larger screen for demo use, or teaching, and have finer control.

Channels 1 & 2 are higher frequency than channels 3 & 4 (Datasheet page 6) and in the User Manual they list the max frequency for every waveform (page 31-32). Probably they are using different DACs for ch1/2 and ch3/4, it'll be an interesting teardown!

Yeah, it doesn't scream high end - especially with spelling mistakes and such ("peroid"? in the counter - and twice). Also, DACs are rated in updates/sec, not samples a sec, so it should be 2.5GU/sec, as in the output of the DAC can be updated 2.5 billion times a second.

    • @UNITrendUS
      @UNITrendUS 2 месяца назад

They are, but there are differences. A waveform generator would traditionally only produce your basic shapes. Especially in the days of analog. When you add modulation, PRBS, Digital protocols, etc., you've now got a signal generator. It's producing much more than just a waveform. Arbs, waveform generators, function generators, signal generators. They are used interchangeably, though not always accurately.

Having 10 physical waveform buttons on the front panel is a waste of space. With a touch screen the waveforms should be available to select on the display, which would allow triangle snd sawtooth waveforms to be available for selection and favorite waveforms (including custom waveforms) to be available with a single click.
