    Try calculating the slope of line (3,-1) (1,3) using the conventional formula and method you mentioned.

      Hi Priyana, thank you for your comment. Yes, you made a very good point. Look at the condition mentioned in the first line of the video description. It says:
      If the midpoint of a line segment is (x,y), then its slope will equal -y/x (only if the end points are (x,0) and (0,y). We forgot to mention the condition in our video and have hence written it in the description. Apologies for the error :)

    • @priyanarajbhandari672
      @priyanarajbhandari672 8 лет назад +2

      My point exactly. Midpoint of a line doesn't say anything about its orientation and that's what slope is.

    • @InfinityLearn_NEET
      @InfinityLearn_NEET  8 лет назад +2

      Yes, we agree! Which is why we mentioned it at the end of the video. Concepts first, interesting facts later! If one interesting point helps our learners save ~10 seconds on their exams, we'll be happy :)

    How do we Find the midpoint of line segment XY if X = (7,7) and Y= (-1,3)?

    • @Digis-sr8cy
      @Digis-sr8cy 3 года назад

      I think is the avergare of the x axis and the average of the y axis life for example the x axis is= 7+-1 divided by 2. The y axis is 7 + 3 divided by 2. The midpoint is the answer of x axis average and y axis average

    • @chinaclarke1087

      I think instead of dividing you can reduce to simplest form like 6/4 divided would give you 1.5 but reduced it would be 3/2 for your final answer.

    if mid points are -x,-y then, will the slope be y/x, or will it be -y/x

    • @InfinityLearn_NEET
      @InfinityLearn_NEET  9 лет назад +3

      +Dwaipayan Dutta Roy, thank you for your question. Just remember this: If the midpoint is (x,y), then the slope will be -y/x. Here the values of x and y can be positive or negative, it doesn't matter.
      Even if you assume that the midpoint is (-x,-y), the slope will still be -y/x.
