it's because of trends and mainstream attention. i remember when soulja boy popped up with that annoying dance and music style of his and for some reason people really liked him and then suddenly i noticed every new artist started doing the same stuff (my opinion and i could be wrong so dont attack me). and even guys like 50 cent, r kelly, snoop and the rest of the guys and girls from 1998-2005 had to completely change their styles in order to remain relevant. nowadays is more about the HD videos and hot girls (i am not complaining about that bit but its the truth) and some catchy phrases or words (no flex zone or "a week ago") instead of the quality or purpose of the song :/
