Broooo this is such a concept though, a Karl who has seen EVERYTHING who needn't boundaries anymore, who is distant and only will to fight is because of pure want since he has no need anymore. A Karl who is the purest form of chaotic good there ever could be. And yet still hangs onto the dear and close to him even though he has no need to. In this form, this state of mind, this state of power. He hangs onto what is dear to him and what he thinks is right. That is just a fucking amazing character idea, it's incredibly unique and I love it.

Dream wouldn't be able to digest all of karl's memories because they were already so much that karl himselft can't stand it (=lose part of his memory to male place for others)
Having that kind of knowledge, that kind of emotion, that kind of whiplash, all pushed upon you at the same time in a matter of seconds, would be mind breaking, to say the least
My dumb ass thought it was DreamXD until I saw Karl’s face and then from that point it was all so much better oh my god... this is so great ;-;

I didn't really understand that the speaker was Karl until the very end and that reveal gave me so many chills, this whole animatic is so awesome and well done

This speech was already an emotional one, but paired with this final altercation between inbetween karl and dream, the possibility of dream deciding the world he has he doesn't want fixed by karl, and then seeing everything laid bare. all of karl's journeys flooding him, drenching him to tears. powerful stuff. ya nailed it

it would be so cool if, for the finale, Karl either A. Kills the Dreamon and reveals our Dream was inbetween time and universes, or B. Karl uses his knowledge of the timelines to fight Dreamon/Egg, accuracy from the WildWest, sneak from the manor, perception from the beach episode, and manipulation/speech from The Lost City
The thing is Karl might be able to time travel but there’s people like dream philza and techno who can easily defeat him pvp and outwit him and I’d say the egg is definetly stronger than Karl Tommy is the only one immune cause plot armor and then there’s ranboo become more important over time
@@inferno9056 this is true, non-roleplay wise. But we don't know the limit of Karl's powers, hell, people are theorizing he's in the same dimension as DreamXD

@@inferno9056 well, considering this is all roleplay, pvp fights can go either way. Tommy beat Dream in the disc war, and in the finale, tubbo and Tommy “won” by the lore of everyone coming to save them.
Ranboo, has the power to break blocks with his hands and the power of teleportation *has been hinted at*
If DreamSMP characters get more powers, pvp won’t matter.
For instance, if Karl is in DreamXD’s dimension, there’s nothing they can do against a creative mode Karl. ;)

I friggin love Karl. I so desperately want him to get all his memories back and live in peace. He's been through so much. But I do enjoy this interpretation of him; like after he's time-traveled many times and has gathered wisdom and all that good stuff. I like the idea of him being this powerful being that's accumulated knowledge over many years.

When I first saw it I thought Karl was Dream XD for a bit but around 1:07 the audio mentioned time war and time lords and I realised that the audio was from doctor who and I was like “wait it’s Karl isn’t it” and it was!
Really tho this is great! The audio fits perfectly and I love the storyline!

This was great, very well done.
The whole speech really fits Karl. However, I think the speech after 0:45 also fits with Dreams perspective. As not only someone who saw the creation of the world but was its creator, forced to watch as others took his creation and burned it to the ground with conflict and broken friendships. Forced to watch as others took parts of his peaceful world and tore each other apart, bloodshed spreading like disease; all the while publicly villainizing him causing his oldest and closest friends to leave him one by one.
Witnessed all of it, the entire tragedy of the server drown in violence, and it broke him.

@@ovo7314 lol, it’s why I find Dreams character to be fascinating. It’s also why he’s my favorite, and even though he’s become a villain I’m still on his side.

Is Dream the canonical creator? I thought he was just the person who owned the world as it’s king/ruler, while DreamXD is the canonical creator of the DreamSMP

@@pally3370 Canonically he isn’t a God or hold any Godlike powers, that is DramXD. But as far as I know Dream is the one to create the server. Or at least is it’s founder. And in the beginning Dream wasn’t even a ruler or anything like a king. He was more of a part time Sheriff at the start, all the trouble started when Tommy and then later his friends started breaking the few rules the server had.

This actually hit me. There has been no other SMP animatic I have watched that actually made me feel like my heart was stopped the whole time it was playing. I felt the emotions building in the characters come as tears behind my eyes. This was a powerful animatic and it wasn't just the audio.

THIS IS UNREAL OH MY GOD!! Not knowing who was speaking until the midpoint/ending made this like 1000 times more powerful too, your pacing is godlike

God, just the gradual build of who's speaking until you hit the climax of the speech and you start to piece it together that it's actually Karl speaking? Masterful, beautiful. The framing and the scenes are just so perfect and sends just chills and makes me weep. This is so good!!! I'm so glad to have found it here after coming across it on Tumblr.
Everyone’s already talking about the chills but I just gotta reiterate- THE CHILLS. The audio is perfect and the art is beautiful it’s all fantastic
I actually came up with a theory while watching this
What if Dream _was_ a god? Specifically, a young god who still has to prove his worth.
It would explain:
- Why all his ancestors look like him: they were all actually "gods-in-training" that eventually ascended
- Why he's a megalomaniac and incredibly strong
- Why he's always trying to have control of the entire SMP
- Why he can put kings in power, whilst being even more powerful than them
- Why he doesn't really care about people's feelings: he'll outlive everyone eventually
- Why he can shapeshift into different personas and control other people's thoughts (that's a whole other can of worms)
- Why he doesn't need sleep or shelter
wait... DreamXD could be his ancestor then...?
It makes sense... Woah this is a cool theory
Ok so I love this, but also consider: an old god who fell from grace because of something he did, so now he is just an immortal trying to ascend again. He was a god of attachments and war, manipulation and bloodshed, but he did something terrible and Dream XD had to stop him. It would explain why he views people more as objects then anything, and seems to have powers most players wouldn’t. Like, with ranboo’s mind control or really anything involving ranboo. (This takes me into a whole different theory but I have no proof on it and just think it’s cool.) but consider him just knowing he’ll outlive George and snapnap so he distances himself from them. Idk tho thanks for reading my rambling.)

Good animatic it’s true Karl wanted to be important so badly he tried to feed off the others that were he envied them badly but now karma has come to bite him while giving him a power with a cost and when it’s time to fight something will this gift be worth it no he isn’t strong enough to win against the strongest

came from tumblr and am still re watching it multiple times, i have an obsession with karl's design in this.
This would be a incredible ending to the Dream Saga, is just incredible and it give the character of Karl more importance in the actual time, for now is just a form to see events of the future or the past but nothing more and i feel that he need his moment of glory and wisdom.

I love how you included almost everyone in this animatic. and each line fits the character that is being shown. this whole animatic is just a masterpiece
It was really strange watching the animatic 2 years later and seeing Bad holding a baby which reminds me of Dapper and Technoblade being the line with the memory of sorrow because Techblade died and that memory is sad for many people.
Has anyone ever considered that Karl might become DreamXD at some point? Maybe after ages of drifting through time, Karl becomes into a god, and destroys the end portal to prevent the worst possible future.
As a long time doctor who fan, I can actually say that Matt Smith’s (11th doctor) voice goes really well with Karl’s and there’s no good reason behind it. It just works. Also- you made me cry-
I'm legitimately tearing up right now this was so well done and I just wish I had the proper words to communicate just how wonderful it was. The emotion, the parallels between the dialogue and the moments in time, how it switches from the L'Mantree growing to the burned bits, the snippits of everyone whose been impacted by each choice that's been made through the narrative of the smp, the way that you had him catch the axe to explain the staggered breathing in his speech!!
The way it zooms in on the two rings when he says "I've lost things you would never understand" like I?? Bro?? I am crying in the club?? The SHOT OF QUACKITY AND SAPNAP CLINGING TO EACH OTHER ONLY TO SHOW THAT ITS KARL WHOSE SPEAKING,,, AND THE SPIRALS IN HIS EYES AS HE DECIDES TO GIVE DREAM EXACTLY WHAT HE'S ASKING FOR-
And then in the end, as he's screaming for him to take it all I only caught the tears in like my third watch through and it was just another gut punch on top of the ones I was already suffering from but like,,, in the best way possible. The dramatic framing of everything really heightened the emotions and I didn't even mind how the music swelled up to almost blot out the dialogue because I was swept along getting lost in the emotions I was feeling. Absolutely bravo, 10/10, will be watching whenever I get the chance (and take notes cause dang,,,,, your art is a lil bit breathtaking in a great way my dude)

I’ve just been rewatching and rewatching this animatic because it’s such a masterpiece that I feel the need to finally drop a comment because it deserves it.
The use of the speech from the Eleventh Doctor, which lets out an image of how the Doctor has lived for a long time and therefore, has known too much, and lost a lot.
And holy cow, Karl fits perfectly in the position, traveling more and more through time, learning each time a new story, a new way, but losing himself in the process until he becomes at the end the keeper of the time, with the knowledge of the universe at the cost of his own self!
I love this. Karl as a Time Lord, him confronting Dream in order to protect the only place he has known to be home, watching every member of the server appear for a least a few seconds, it’s so beautiful.
Personally, I have two favorite scenes from this:
1) When Jack Manifold appears, and how you use the phrase of “watching universes freeze” for him as a parallel of how he came back from death and therefore, stopped in a way his ending!
2) When Karl shows Dream his power. In a way, he’s showing Dream everything he has known and everything he has suffered, and that’s why Dream cries at the end: he has been drowned on Karl’s memories, has feel his pain, and sorrow and sadness, and finds himself unable to just understand all of it.
So yeah, thank you so much for drawing this masterpiece! It has become one of my favorite animatics from the DSMP! Keep up the good work, because woah, you’re really an amazing artist!! ✨

You got tears from my eyes and you are going to know how much I love this.
I was searching around the internet doing as one does when streamers are streaming Dream SMP. I saw the screencap on the top page of the tag on Tumblr, didn't give it much thought, I was going to come back and look later. Cycled through streamers, landed on Sam, who was doing a media share stream. I was using him for background noise and then this video got shared. I just so happened to be looking back at the stream and saw it was an animatic with Doctor Who audio. I gave it my full attention and Oh. My. God.
I had no idea who was talking, I thought it was Ranboo and then I thought it was Dream XD giving a god smackdown to a man who had run wild in his land. AND then the reveal. I got it when he said take my memories, it was like my brain lit up and connected all the dots. Karl. A person who started and faced hardships and toiled. Who loved and lost, and traveled all over to see stories to make him understand. AND THEN YOUR ART. The timing. The flashing of the joys, of the love to the other characters... techno is a forest... showing the good and the bad. You showed how people started and how they changed, where they were led, and how they were hurt. You showed character build-up and all the relationships. I loved the staff summoning and the eyes. You showed Karl being badass.
And you showed him being kind. You showed him hurting and then standing over his enemy with tears.
You did a really damn good job. I fucking love the artists of this community.

_the fucking audio was amazing._
It fit everything so well and I love the whole story that was told with this one animatic!! There was so much emotions going on in this as you referenced a lot of the most important parts of the story. I only began to realize that the one talking was Karl, near the end. The part where Karl says "take my memories" hit hard, like he was telling Dream to see all the lives Karl himself had experienced, to attempt to show Dream the meaning of the people and the meaning of lives. I love to think that Karl is completely human in this too. That would make his standing in the world a lot more interesting than if he were actually a god.
The parts of ancestors kind of make a lot of sense, because of the Tales from the SMP, where the ancestors look like him (since they are played by the same people) and the omg _t e a r s_ from the people in this animatic just

i just... i love that shot of dream on the ground, defeated. like he’s finally realized what he’s done. i pity him, not in the way that i think he’s misunderstood or redeemable- it’s just sad how out of hand he got.

I also came from tumblr and this is one of the most breathtaking animatics ive ever watched or honestly one of my favorites ever. Just,, the way you framed their emotions SO well and every word that karl when describes people- you can feel each panel ooze that energy. I dont even watch karl that much but you made me really invested in his pov with this. Brilliant work!

That speech was surprisingly accurate. What exactly was it originally about?
it's originally from Doctor Who! It's about the Doctor confronting Akhaten, a parasite god he found on his travels, to free the world he landed on. The god liked to eat away at memories and make the people worship him for it (I think bc the god ate all the bad memories?? it's been a bit) and the Doctor was basically giving up all of his memories, which, being a time lord, was a LOT, to finally satiate the god. (hopefully this answers your q, huge fan of both doctor who and the dsmp)

The way u use carl (ik that’s not how u spell his name) is amazing, since he has so much power (main character ark? Replace ranboob? 😳) and the way the audio works with the characters and ranbob being in the future where everything is degraded and the universe has ended I mean-
And the relationship between snapmap, carl, and Alex quackity is 👌
From what I understand, dream is at the point where he is manipulating and destroying almost everyone and everything and being evil, like the person he is and Karl is standing up to him and since Karl is a time traveler, he has seen the dream smp start and how it will end by dream’s hands. Karl doesn’t want that to happen (like any normal person on the smp except for techno) and dream doesn’t understand the damage he is doing. Karl then explains what will happen, why everything and everyone is important and special and the history and emotions that are at stake. Since dream (role play dream) is like a parasite, explained by Karl, when Karl says take my memories, take them all (go ahead, kill me) dream tries since he’s scared by Karl by Karl stops dream, which scares him even more. Then, after going through everything that dream has ruined and will ruin, Karl uses his powers to show dream what has happened and what will happen and everything he has ruined, and dream drops on his knees, crying, and video ends.

I love that in parts of the speech it sounds like other people are also talking lightly (not the singing coming through from the audio) but almost like a light echo. Almost like Karl is speaking for all those he met. I think it was a bug in the audio but I love it

After about two months of searching, I have stumbled upon this masterpiece again. I watched this when it first came out, and it was powerful then.
I didn't fully understand it, I didn't understand that Karl was the speaker, I didn't understand why.
Now, though, I understand what makes it so powerful.
The struggle Karl has been through, his experiences, the pain of losing his fiancés, the memories slowly slipping out of his grasp, the tragedies he is forced to document. Karl been through everything, seen it all. Every story, every moment, every hurt, every betrayal, every tragedy, and he offers it to Dream, to see, to take, to watch, to listen. And to understand what Dream brought to this world by falling.
And Dream can't bear the pain.
He falls to his knees, sobbing, stunned.
And Karl simply stands before him, impassive, nothing more to say.

Oh. OH-this gave me feelings. Like I could feel it reaching into my chest and playing my heart strings. It gave me fucking chill's. The incredible animation combined with that voice and the music... Perfect! A masterpiece. Just incredibly I'm absolutely stunned.
