I was in the gastronomy francaise field before working in audio production. I leave this world because of what is described in this video. One of the hardest thing for me in this field was choosing my health and my family over some doors. Reality is, a lot of opportunity where there in live sound leading to somewhere else, but it would have cost me so much. I already had the experience of working around 15hours a day in cuisine and it is a no go now. The past two years was a leap of faith and yet I work in the audio industry as a producer and mixer, also as a content creator. I discovered new artist and work with people in a lot of different place and I'm also a audio-visual technician in a university here in Quebec and I'm the proudest when I listen to my body and my heart instead of trying to push thing for no other reason than money or fame.
      Have a marvelous day everyone.
Thanks Ali Amac and thanks Produce like a pro.

Recently (5 weeks ago) had a "difficult" client. Pretty complete lack of respect for how hard we were working on the project, then in the middle of it claims his financing fell through. I usually charge a pretty hefty deposit up front but this time gave a break and took a small deposit. It's taken a month to get most of the fee paid. I blame myself and take it as a lesson in picking up cues that I sensed as the days went by. I believe I gained insight that outweighs the pain. Thank you Warren and Ali, great stuff.

First, I thought I was the only one that lived under alot of pressure. What a great video. Second. The acadimic world was just as bad for me, probably worse. I lived the move whiplash. That movie really brought back all the anger of teachers and professors that screamed and threw things at me and my peers. We didnt know we could call the police because we where young and didn't know it was assault.

This is such an important message, as long as we are in alignment with ourselves we can move on a healthy path! We all don't have to do the same mistakes to learn, we can learn from AMACs experience and get prepared with these golden tips. It's SO important to talk about mental health, career and (!) personal goals get an "OK" that doors won't close forever for any mistake (I think too many people in the industry think they have this super power, a big ego problem). AMAC, thanks for the wonderful conversations in LA, keep on shining, guiding and inspiring!!!

Thanks, Ali, for sharing your experiences and thoughts, and for your honest approach to the topic.
I agree with you that all these bad situations and people can be changed, one step at a time.
I believe that even we, non-professionals, have an influence on this, although we usually think that our destiny is only to worship and admire those who have power or success.
But the truth is that most often such people have a huge ego and what really moves them is the loss of this adoration and admiration.
Therefore, if we are witnesses of bad situations in one way or another, let us be guided by empathy for the wronged people, and not blindly worship those who show disrespect to others.
By showing this, we will make even these bad people start to change for fear of losing their admiration.

Checking in with your self and remaining as centered as possible. Despite what is going on around you, or being said. The mind is a great servant, but a cruel bugger when it is the master.
More importantly I feel, is to become as impersonal as you can. It helps, to catch and identify, the projections of others. Then you can adjust accordingly to the given situation. Without losing your personal boundaries, while keeping a clear picture of your goals.

Frankly, when I got started in the mid-80’s in the Bay Area, most studios were pretty toxic environments. I think the biggest reason was all the drugs. Most studio owners were on drugs, and often studios were established and/or subsidized through drug sales. This of course lead to very poor decisions, behaviors and unscrupulous business practices for many. I hated that it really jaded me and turned me off to the “biz”, and yet I still LOVE the creation of music, recording, mixing, arranging, production, performance. The struggle is very real!!

You and I seem to both be Outcome-Oriented-Individuals. We're the best at bringing projects to completion, and also at being susceptible to exploitation and abuse by "those" kinds of people. It took me a long time to learn to step back and decide just how important every outcome was in the overall scheme of things.

    • @AMACULENTMINDSET

İ understand amac used here is her nickname or real name but as explained perfectly in the video ; the first goal or purpose ( amaç) for being in a music business should be Joy , it should be the enthutiasm of sharing your art or your work with other people who understands the value of it. tldr
    I agree.
On a sidenote: I see the same in corporates’ life as well. I could simply replace some words in your wordings and it’s the same.
I think the problem is humans, not just you. First of all how we behave with each other, secondly the general insecurity in life (both financially and fear from very very fast paced changes… continuous planning to survive in this messed up world that politicians generated to “divide et impera”), lastly the rich-poor game which is not life-threatening nowadays, but a mild modern slavery where those get away with lot of money who don’t do necessarily anything but own more and more money (which is finite asset)… I simply call it greed, regardless if it’s a corporate, a major label, or a group of shareholders. If it does not serve humans to have better and easier life circumstances, it does not worth anything.
This all insecurity made up by humans nowadays (mostly indirectly as a side-effect of disposition over finite assets), and although capitalism works, it is far away feom perfect and we just start to see its shady sides with mammoth corporates and concentrations of assets. Well, you rather feel it. Humans are very creative and flexible creatures, who adapt and react/change fairly quickly to the environment. Your feelings, reactions likely triggered by modern world, and though we should have happier life with so many automations and machines around us, if the production made it harder and harder to enjoy it, you may fall apart.
Now on the top of that, musicians and creatives never ever had wealth, they always needed sponsors in the history and only some lucky ones could get away with enough money, and fraction of them were able to maintain that life via clever investments. But I’m sure that most of them enjoyed music for a long time, before finance and ego kicked in… and the deceitful social media trends are just another negative layer on all of this, that speed up a self-devaluation process in fragile souls.
Also, those who push their passion in front of profitability many time, will suffer more if their expectstion on false hope or promise is that they can get fame and success quickly. 1% csn be lucky, masses will struggle and shall keep up the joyful work, at least for the sake of love of music. Music has been a technical sport always, especially since 1950s. In 2010s Spotify came and many people believed they can jump in and have this as a profession that is based on their passion (music), but I knew that it ain’t gonna last long, because major corporates do not want to release their goose with the golden eggs, just because music creation is getting widely accessible via technological revolution. Again, in which all stakeholders are suffering from sw/hw developer till musicians/engineers.
Competition is good, but healthy economical environment is priceless. I’m saying that as a hobbist who likes music, creates music, owns some gears and a small home studio just for fun, just to relax, and get away from my profession as an economist/service manager. In this sector I should have (even bigger) fear too as AI is attacking many corporate jobs, soon there will be mass layoffs, and those who can code some programs will have a job. Vast majority of people will lose. Some corp heads say oh that is not the case, because new professions will born that we do not even know yet. Fair enough, but humans have to eat daily, cannot wait. And there is no solution from the profit earners, shareholders, politicians how they will solve this situation. They act quickly to automate processes and apply “AI” where they can just to make profit as soon as they can… greed again. But if there won’t be any consumer with money, whom they want to milk? Catch 22. This will also conculde in insecurity as a generic feeling of today’s people all around the world and you perceive it in many ways, depending on your personality and current state.
Imagine a world where profit drives human work only by 50% or less… rest of the work is done purely by joy/interest/learn/must. I guess this will come, inevitably; maybe I’ll see it too when I retire.
And as for technology that everyone calls AI in the music industry, I read something today in a reel somewhere:
I want AI to do my laundry and dishes so that I can do art and writing, not for AI to do my art and writing so that I can do my laundry and dishes.
    Tru dat.
All the bests to everyone, and do not feel too bad. It’s happening everywhere and there will be solution. Never give up hope, otherwise humanity is lost.
p.s.: God bless then basketball shorts!
