    Gurkhas have earned their trust and respect by their deeds. Nepalese are world class in only two fields one is mountainering and other is they being excellent soldier. No other country or people can match them in these two fields. Now, whats make them excellent in these fields. Is it physical strength -no. It is the decipline, dedication, courage and professionalism that has earned them their name & fame. Nepal is known to the outside world by its mountains and it's people who are called Gurkas or Gorkhas. जय Gorakhnath जय Gorkha.

      Indian dynasties like Gopal, Som, Ahir, Lichchhivis and Mallas defeated those gorkhalis countlessly for thousands of years and made them fled to the mountains ..also they were vassal states of emperor Ashoka and some Muslim North Indian empire ..this is the dark past of gorkhas that no one dares to talk about...

    Im so confused why are we taking pride that the monarchy (that was responsible for the gutting our region of the world) is being served breakfast by the gurkhas?? That does not make sense to me.
    The whole "Gurkha Pride" has a bittersweet undertone for me personally. While us Nepalis should rightfully take pride in Gurkha's bravery and strength, the sad reality is that this pride has become so closely tied to how the British (or other powerful countries/monarchies) view the Gurkhas instead of it being a pride which stands on its own. At the time nepali men were being recruited into the british army, the strategic narrative of "pride, strength and loyalty" helped discourage potential anti-colonial sentiments among the Gurkhas towards the empire , and that narrative still continues to this day as evidenced by this interview. It's true that the strength, pride and bravery prevented Nepal from being ruled by the british, but the british just found clever ways to use that sentiment against us. They basically just said, "look how brave and strong you are, come join us and fight our wars for us. if you're lucky you''ll get to serve breakfast to the monarchy who just tried to take your country from you" They just found a different way to still exploit the nepali people and basically use the narrative to make this okay to this day.
    This is NOT a personal attack on Major or the Gurkhas. Im just making a larger point that while we are right to take pride in being brave, loyal and strong, we can also be critical of how that has been used as a tool to continue taking advantage of nepali people and to minimize the deep (indirect) impacts of British colonial rule in that region.

    • @akashi8957
      @akashi8957 7 месяцев назад +8

      First of all we were never colonised. No british is forcing us to join with gun on our head. It was actually our own royal family and politicians that sold us mongolians for money and started this trend. If it wasnt for british I would be a shepherd in some hills neglected and ignored by the nepali goverment. But cuz of britian I am living solid good life in london studying in uni of my choice, proper citizenship. I see bahun and chetrri bros sleeping under the bridge in London or sharing a room between 6 people. Britian has done 100x more for us than what nepal has, atleast we are still loyal to nepal and call it our homecountry.

    • @woqeel
      @woqeel 7 месяцев назад

      @@akashi8957 Let me start by saying I agree with you for the most part. Nepal was never a formal colony, but Nepal was not immune from the effects of british empire. That is my whole point, the british empire just learned a different way to exploit Nepal. One of which was to use Nepals monarchy (and the Rana regime) at the time to gain all the valuable resources from us in exchange for allowing the monarchy to remain in Nepal. They didn't need to expend their resources colonizing us, they simply found other ways, one of which was using Nepal's monarchy. The reason why britian has been able to do 100X more for you than what Nepal has is closely tied to do this history. Regardless of what caste folks belong to, it's sad to hear that people from Nepal are having to sleep under bridges or cramped up in small apartments in a country built using resources from countries like ours. I am glad you have a solid life and are studying in uni of your choice, I hope that becomes a reality for the nepali people sleeping under bridges and cramped up in apartments as well.

    • @akashi8957
      @akashi8957 7 месяцев назад +2

      @@woqeel Sure but to me its always about who has treated us better. You may feel exploited but some of us feels honoured and happy to live a good life like this. Britian never colonised us and they never could exploit us directly even if they wanted to. Blame our politicians and royal families and their greed. If a man sells his sister to a brothel in India, would we be blaming some random brothel or the man who sold his sister?
