As promised here is our second news of the day, we have a new expansion for Mortal Kombat 1 dubbed Khaos Reigns! New story mode, gameplay(hey animalities) and new characters, lots to like here so lets go through everything that we learned. There's still very likely even more stuff out there that is not yet announced, but I guess we have to wait longer for our release date on September 24th for that. So give a watch and find out whats going on!
Why is wanting Mortal Kombat characters in Mortal Kombat a stupid opinion/complaint? Rooflemonger you like guest characters, which is perfectly fine, however, calling MK fans idiots for wanting more MK characters in MK, is just dumb to me. Consumers have zero interest in what makes money for a company. You should voice characters you want, not what makes WB more money, like c'mon.

im being mean to the people who are ignorant about it cause im all the way done with the argument. "wasted slots" "why can't it be xyz" MK1 went out of its way to make sure there was many returning characters that haven't been around forever and people acted like they did nothing. I am in every fighting game community and I can say easily that NRS fans are the most ungrateful group out there. Never happy, always complaining. Done being nice to those people. I don't love every DLC choice either, but I understand that there is people who will, so I let them live their life instead of crying about it.

Compare MK to other popular fighters and you can see that MK relies so much more on the guests compared to other fighters to the point where it just doesn't feel as cool and exciting as it did before

Guest characters are fine when done sparingly, nobody is gonna say otherwise because it's been a staple in fighting games for years. But this tactic NRS have of just pulling 3 out of 6 characters randomly from the WB vault just to secure some profit with casuals is just so lame. I don't care if I get hate for it, it's something that is definitely up for criticism.

I'm pretty sure that edition is for people who never played the game and KP2 + story will be cheaper. That said, just assume this with every fighting game and if you don't like it, wait for the final edition with everything.

I’ve been wanting Ghostface since MK X as scream is my favorite scary movie and scary movie franchise. So seeing them finally pop up in MK 1 has made me so happy and excited. I can only imagine their gameplay.
I think guest characters can be a lot of fun, and actually wish they could bring back guests from previous games in addition to new ones. Jason vs Ghostface; Arnold's Terminator vs the T-1000; Rambo vs Conan would be cool. That said, I wish we could get more characters from the 3d era. I loved Hotaru's character design SO much. He could have ties to old Deception buddies Darrius and Havik.
I understand why fighting games are adding guest characters, but I can also understand people complaining about them. Obviously they're going to sell more and likely bring in more players, but I think veteran players who've been playing a series for years could feel underappreciated when the devs focus more on getting new players. Logically, the devs' decisions make sense, but those decisions aren't always what the most dedicated fans want. I think there's a bit more nuance to the issue since "it sells" is the same reason cosmetics and DLC continue to increase in prices. It's the reason there's no pack for Street Fighter 6 costumes. Capcom knows that people will purchase them anyways. I hate the "it sells more" argument. If the sales are all that matter why not just make an MK game with 90% guest characters in the launch roster? It's such a damaging idea to celebrate companies just chasing money instead of having actual loyalty to the franchise and its characters.

If they just had the core characters from Mortal Kombat and filled the rest of the roster and all DLC with guest characters, how would that sell? I legitimately think it might still sell really well. Fortnite has a ridiculous amount of "guest costumes", which has led to the game feeling like a jumbled mess that doesn't have a coherent art style. Obviously it's still popular, but long time players have expressed their displeasure with what it has become.

I'm not fully against guest characters but stuff like MK11 and 1 are just ridiculous with it, and the latter putting actual MK characters in assist slots instead is just the final kick in the teeth.

The Conan I like the most. He looks like he could fit in anywhere in Outworld, and fights brutally enough for a MK game. Bit sad we can't have a T-800 vs T-1000 scenario.
Also YES, please no more multiverse stuff. PLEASE. I enjoyed the beginning of MK1 so much, something about low stakes Mortal Kombat felt great, especially with the relatively low power level of every character. Such a nice fresh air. I really want more of that.

MK1 getting 9 new characters out in a single year is impressive considering Street Fighter and Tekken are only getting 4 out per year. And that's not even including Kameos. If there's one thing NRS is doing right it's getting new characters out fast.
My problem with guess character is there's so too many in Mk1 already and specifically this particular pack has archetypes that are already in the game. Knife wielding guy- Smoke Big guy with Big weapon- Shao Kahn Guy with blade hands- Baraka Now admittedly the T-1000 gameplay can be vastly different than Baraka and also the other guest character too, but it just feels too repetitive on its surface. With that in mind, I'm intrigued by the potential T-1000 gameplay-I'm hoping for a Glacius-style puddle punch-and curious about how a game known for character fatalities will handle a liquid metal man who can reformulate from all damage besides "liquid hot magma" -Dr. Evil
Custom lobbies/rooms…. No word on that from the few content creators I’ve seen covering this so far. When the casuals get their one time play through of the story and filling of new finishers ….I really hope the online is bolstered (for those looking to stay around and keep playing competitively) beyond just the casual/ranked match and K.O.T.H
Honestly much more interested in new modes, features and polish for the existing game instead of new guest characters or a 5 hour story mode I'll play once.
Thank Freddy? Soul Calibur had Spawn, Link, Kratos, Darth Vader, Yoda, and Starkiller *long* before MK started having guest characters, and it was no where near the first.

Nobody was arguing that guest characters dont make money. I think the characters in kp2 are pretty cool but i would personally much rather have Sonya, Jax, Stryker, Goro, Jade. Mk1 already doesn't have a great roster and i wish it had more mk characters
Man Tekken 8 and Mortal Kombat 1 DLC stories put Street Fighter 6 to shame and yet Street Fighter 6 have Terry and Mai but this year cooking with DLC stories
I love guest characters, is just that if you ask me Roof, I would have prefer someone like Doom Slayer, Ryu Hayabusa, or Alex Mercer as a guest compare to movies characters. I'm just disappointed that Kratos is the only video game character we got as a guest so far in MK. Since MK is a video game itself, I believe people will be more hype to see another video game character appear as a guest. Imagine the horsemens in Darksiders game, all 4 of them - War, Death, Fury, and Strife appear as guest in MK ala TMNT in Injustice 2...that will be epic as hell. Heck, maybe some anime characters will be cool too. Example Gojo or Sukuna from Jujutsu Kaisen, Guts from Berserk, or Denji from Chainsaw Man. Imagine how hype if this crossover happen. It will break the internet. If Namco Bandai can make a deal with western company to get Star Wars characters and Negan in their game, then WB should be able to strike a deal with eastern company too.
It is shocking to see how they torture Geras and Bi Han, it looks impressive and draws a lot of attention. The designs of Sektor girl and Cyrax girl are not bad at all but they could look much better. The design of Titan Havik looks much better than the current Havik since Titan Havik looks more monstrous, more brutal, more beastly, more terrifying and his different expressions and body language make him look even better. Titan Havik has the visual impact on his side. . The LIU KANG vs Titan Havik fight looks impressive. The settings look spectacular and impressive. I like that they have that nightmare atmosphere of a horror movie with that dark and gloomy atmosphere.😊My wish is to see a great fight to the death between LIU KANG against the titan Havik (heroism in its purest state against chaotic evil in its purest state). I hope Havik transforms into something even more monstrous and shocking and dangerous. I hope that the cinematics of the mk story focus on showing the level of physical strength and superhuman physical abilities of the characters and more of the heroes of the earth and show their feats of superhuman physical abilities such as strength, resistance, etc. Ghostface is the worst thing in the video since Ghostface does not combine with the mortal kombat universe since Ghostface is very weak, fragile, flimsy and delicate for the mk universe. Ghostface is the worst dlc character, even Hsu Hao and Kobra are superior to ghostface. Seeing LIU KANG, Kung Lao and Raiden face the titan Havik is the most spectacular, impressive and striking thing in the video. Noob Saibot's design looks good but that green color in his design completely ruins the good design since that green thing only distracts and really bothers the eyes.😊
Very happy with the guests. Not so much with the MK characters. Would have rather seen Cetrion, Sheeva, Skarlet, Kotal, Kollector, Erron Black, or Kabal than more dumb lin kuei characters.
The guest characters are probably the weakest set we’ve gotten but I never care for the guests so it’s not like I was gonna be excited for them even if they were good. The MK characters though… I couldn’t have asked for a better selection! It’s all ninjas! And all available at launch too! I’m so pumped.
Yeah. People just like to complain. I understand if you're not into the Kameo system, but the base roster is huge with a lot of free goodies. Colourways, different play styles, and all the ninja boys.
I hope Sektor's new capture state sticky bomb becomes referred to as the "Popcorn Bomb" because when that goop dries up and explodes, it honestly looks like popcorn. And in the same way that you can get "put into the blender" in fighting games, Sektor here could "put you into the microwave".
Fun fact Mortal Kombat and I share a birthday. Noob Saibot is by far my favorite Mortal Kombat Character. I honestly thought it'd be funny if Hanzo Hazashi managed to come back as Noob. But hey, maybe he'll get to be new sub-zero. Or maybe Quai Liang will take that mantle still and pass Scorpion to Hanzo. Either way it's great to have my boy back. Obviously they're going to sell more and likely bring in more players, but I think veteran players who've been playing a series for years could feel underappreciated when the devs focus more on getting new players. Logically, the devs' decisions make sense, but those decisions aren't always what the most dedicated fans want.
I think there's a bit more nuance to the issue since "it sells" is the same reason cosmetics and DLC continue to increase in prices. It's the reason there's no pack for Street Fighter 6 costumes. Capcom knows that people will purchase them anyways.

I hate the "it sells more" argument. If the sales are all that matter why not just make an MK game with 90% guest characters in the launch roster?

Fortnite has a ridiculous amount of "guest costumes", which has led to the game feeling like a jumbled mess that doesn't have a coherent art style. Obviously it's still popular, but long time players have expressed their displeasure with what it has become.

Fortnite is a great example because that's what the people who defend this stuff want from fighting games, they just want it to be Fortnite so they can come back every few months and play their favourite pop culture nostalgia trip for 40 minutes before dipping.
I'm not fully against guest characters but stuff like MK11 and 1 are just ridiculous with it, and the latter putting actual MK characters in assist slots instead is just the final kick in the teeth.

MK1 getting 9 new characters out in a single year is impressive considering Street Fighter and Tekken are only getting 4 out per year. And that's not even including Kameos. If there's one thing NRS is doing right it's getting new characters out fast.

My problem with guess character is there's so too many in Mk1 already and specifically this particular pack has archetypes that are already in the game.
Knife wielding guy- Smoke
Big guy with Big weapon- Shao Kahn
Guy with blade hands- Baraka
Now admittedly the T-1000 gameplay can be vastly different than Baraka and also the other guest character too, but it just feels too repetitive on its surface.
With that in mind, I'm intrigued by the potential T-1000 gameplay-I'm hoping for a Glacius-style puddle punch-and curious about how a game known for character fatalities will handle a liquid metal man who can reformulate from all damage besides "liquid hot magma" -Dr. Evil

I love guest characters, is just that if you ask me Roof, I would have prefer someone like Doom Slayer, Ryu Hayabusa, or Alex Mercer as a guest compare to movies characters. I'm just disappointed that Kratos is the only video game character we got as a guest so far in MK. Since MK is a video game itself, I believe people will be more hype to see another video game character appear as a guest. Imagine the horsemens in Darksiders game, all 4 of them - War, Death, Fury, and Strife appear as guest in MK ala TMNT in Injustice 2...that will be epic as hell. Heck, maybe some anime characters will be cool too. Example Gojo or Sukuna from Jujutsu Kaisen, Guts from Berserk, or Denji from Chainsaw Man. Imagine how hype if this crossover happen. It will break the internet. If Namco Bandai can make a deal with western company to get Star Wars characters and Negan in their game, then WB should be able to strike a deal with eastern company too.

Ghostface needs a move where he calls on a 90s phone, and a second Ghostface comes up behind the opponent and stabs/grabs you.
It is shocking to see how they torture Geras and Bi Han, it looks impressive and draws a lot of attention.
The designs of Sektor girl and Cyrax girl are not bad at all but they could look much better.
The design of Titan Havik looks much better than the current Havik since Titan Havik looks more monstrous, more brutal, more beastly, more terrifying and his different expressions and body language make him look even better. Titan Havik has the visual impact on his side. .
The LIU KANG vs Titan Havik fight looks impressive. The settings look spectacular and impressive. I like that they have that nightmare atmosphere of a horror movie with that dark and gloomy atmosphere.😊My wish is to see a great fight to the death between LIU KANG against the titan Havik (heroism in its purest state against chaotic evil in its purest state). I hope Havik transforms into something even more monstrous and shocking and dangerous.
I hope that the cinematics of the mk story focus on showing the level of physical strength and superhuman physical abilities of the characters and more of the heroes of the earth and show their feats of superhuman physical abilities such as strength, resistance, etc.
Ghostface is the worst thing in the video since Ghostface does not combine with the mortal kombat universe since Ghostface is very weak, fragile, flimsy and delicate for the mk universe. Ghostface is the worst dlc character, even Hsu Hao and Kobra are superior to ghostface.
Seeing LIU KANG, Kung Lao and Raiden face the titan Havik is the most spectacular, impressive and striking thing in the video.
Noob Saibot's design looks good but that green color in his design completely ruins the good design since that green thing only distracts and really bothers the eyes.😊

The MK characters though… I couldn’t have asked for a better selection! It’s all ninjas! And all available at launch too! I’m so pumped.
Yeah. People just like to complain. I understand if you're not into the Kameo system, but the base roster is huge with a lot of free goodies. Colourways, different play styles, and all the ninja boys.
I hope Sektor's new capture state sticky bomb becomes referred to as the "Popcorn Bomb" because when that goop dries up and explodes, it honestly looks like popcorn. And in the same way that you can get "put into the blender" in fighting games, Sektor here could "put you into the microwave".

Noob Saibot is by far my favorite Mortal Kombat Character. I honestly thought it'd be funny if Hanzo Hazashi managed to come back as Noob. But hey, maybe he'll get to be new sub-zero. Or maybe Quai Liang will take that mantle still and pass Scorpion to Hanzo. Either way it's great to have my boy back. I was honestly worried he'd be a Kameo, especially with Bi-Han still around.
