My oncologist just told me May 5th I’m cured from triple negative breast cancer! Finally! I pray it stays away forever this time. That was my 2nd time having it. I had a double mastectomy last year in March. My second time having breast cancer. First time was about 7 years ago, Hers 2 positive. I hear tnbc is hard to treat. May I ask how long you underwent these treatments?
Up to now breast cancer IS NOT CURABLE! It might be treatable but it seems to come back, sooner or later. It’s very disconcerting considering the fact that so much money is being spent on BC, and yet. I’m still waiting. And the treatments” could “ be brutal to many women. I pray and hope for new solutions .
We share your desire for better treatments. It is the case that many many people are cured of breast cancer. For stage 1 breast cancer, for example, over 90% of people are cured.
Sue, I sadly have to agree with you. On many of your points. Perhaps a woman can be cured when the cancer is caught super early. However for the majority. By the time a woman notices a lump. It's already stage 2 or higher. Some cancers spread super fast involving lymph nodes etc. Then there's the subject of Chemo / radiation. Some of which has remained the same since the 70's. Is so toxic. Death occurs from damage done to the heart lungs, kidneys & liver. Then it can be claimed she died from other causes other than cancer. What's really madening we have found cures for Aids & Ebola even COVID is not the killer it was. For all that I'm grateful. Now we watch Oncology waiting rooms fill up with younger and younger women. Most of them very health conscious. Their slender and active, don't drink or smoke have always been careful to eat a balanced diet. There's so many Go Fund me cases on You Tube where we get to see young women die before our eyes. Leaving behind grieving husbands and babies. There needs to be explanation, and accountability for what's going on. This is a tragic epidemic. I'm 65. At least I've had a go at life got to raise my son's. I accept I have this disease now. But I can't accept all these young girls. It used to be start getting mammograms yearly at 40. Now it's if you have something to put in a bra you better get it checked out😢
Thank you for your video. Most people don’t understand how cancer cells really work and so they have unrealistic expectations of cure. But we are so glad of good treatments (yep, brutal but nevertheless good) that give us years that we wouldn’t otherwise have had.
We are doing better in the area of mammograms. This technology has come a far way. Now we can get 2D and 3D mammograms making it even more likely to find cancer early. This was the case in my cancer. The 3D mammogram was able to see the small mass that may of not have been seen in the technology we used many years ago. I am grateful for this because it caught my cancer at a very early stage.

Could you please discuss the relationship between cancer and deep vein thrombosis? I am curious about this because I am 3 years NED from breast cancer, but have now recently had DVT in one of my lower legs. I'm being treated for this, and am doing well--but I am wondering how much of a concern this is for me ongoing? (I am a very youthful 70-year-old and in excellent physical shape as an amateur athlete...)
Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) can sometimes occur during cancer treatment, especially since chemotherapy can increase blood clotting risks. With time, we have a greater risk of DVT. Tamoxifen also increases the risk of DVT. Finally, while it is unlikely in your case, a DVT can be seen with cancer recurrence. Making sure your oncology team is aware of your DVT would be important.
Good day, Doctor. I'm in Nigeria and I just completed my 5weeks radiotheraphy treatment last week after 10 rounds of chemotherapy and surgery. I sustained some wound under my armpit and on the surgery stitches on my left chest. I have been given a cream for that. My question is how and when do I start trying for conception because I don't have any children yet and I'm over forty years? Also, I have been placed on Tamoxifen before surgery.
We would recommend that you talk with an expert in fertility as soon as possible. Tamoxifen should not be given in someone who is trying to conceive because it can cause birth defects. If your team thinks that delaying tamoxifen is safe, you can start tamoxifen after pregnancy. For some people, the risk of recurrence is high enough that delaying tamoxifen is not in the person's best interest.
Stage III (3) breast cancer is either a tumor over 5 cm and/or 4 or more positive lymph nodes. We have a Stage III breast cancer video in production as I write this, so keep coming back to our channel.

Well stats are one thing but mine was caught early and told 98% chance of no recurrence. Well 3 years later came back on other side more aggressive and a second cancer - not a recurrence. This 5 year protocol here in the UK also leaves you put there and not detected early.
Indeed! Stats are one thing, but we are all an n of 1. It sounds as if your first cancer has not recurred, so in your case, the statistics were applicable. The second cancer is independent of the first one.

Why haven't they found a medication that is easier on the female body. The damage Anastrozole and Tamoxifen have done to my body is just not worth it for me
We agree that we have to do better. It was just over 100 years ago that people with advanced breast cancer would have their adrenal gland and sometimes their pituitary glands removed, which wrecked havoc on the body. In general, medications are considered preferred to removal of essential glands in our body. Despite this progress, we still have a long way to go!
There is no role for CAR T treatment for breast cancer at this point. The promise of CAR T we've seen in hematologic malignancies has not carried over to solid tumors yet.

Chemo, removal of one breast, more chemo. Doing pretty well considering . Trying to be positive and stay active. I'll be 64 in a few days! Have good support from family and friends. A mammogram also caught my invasive ductal carcinoma early. My tumor is so small it's likely older technology would almost certainly have missed it.
