I've owned this game for 8 years. Finally pulled it off the shelf of shame, last week. Been looking for a good tutorial. How lucky am I. Thanks Edward!
The rebel player may put his starting units on any planet not containing imperial units or an imperial token. It does not have to be a planet with a rebel token.
Hello! Finally I found a new video of a Rebellion playthrough! :) I'd like to share some of my thoughts. I hope I don't mention things others have already. 1:40:47 and 2:18:20 Subjugated systems are imperial systems, even if they have rebel loyalty. Rebel systems are only which have rebel loyalty and no subjugation markers. 1:42:55 Rebel fighters can fly on their own. They don't need carrying. Only the imperial fighters do. 1:59:52 How do you have Rodia in your hand, when you started on that planet? Both the Death Star Under Construction's and the 5 randomly drawn starting imperial systems' probe cards have to be taken out from the probe deck at the beginning. 2:12:26 I interpret the card as any time it's your turn during the command phase, because as by the rule book players alternately take turns. So it can be anytime you're up. For example you can reveal it after the 3rd rebel mission. 2:23:33 Sabotage has no effect on the Interdictor card (neither on a few similar cards), because you don't build it from the planet. Even the card writes "place" Interdictor, not "build". 2:32:10 The tank could have also been destroyed instead of the trooper, because it is a triangle unit as well. :) 2:55:24 That way there's no rebel loyalty on Saleucami. 3:26:00 I would not have played the Assault Carrier's card, because the rebel units roll only one black die. It would feel kind of a waste to me. 3:27:05 The attacker rolls first. It's very important, because the defender has a chance of healing with dice. There are no "floating heals". The way it goes is that the attacker rolls first, assigns every damage and the only damage they can heal by dice is what the defender assigned by card. If there are none, the "heal" symbol is just wasted. The defender on the other hand may heal damage done by dice as well, because they were assigned before. Every damage the defender rolls (unless they are blocked by the combat card) are guaranteed. The attacker does not get a chance of healing them. 3:38:05 Only the red damages would be blocked by the combat card. Direct hits are different. At this point both rebel ships are destroyed. But even if they werent, the transport automatically blows up during the retreat phase if there are no rebel ships that roll dice unless it retreats, but it cannot retreat because of the Interdictor. 3:55:55 If I were the rebels I would put Dodonna instead of Jyn on the rescue mission next to Cassian for two reason. 1) Cassian and Jyn would roll 4 green dice, which is impossible. 2) Jan rolls 2 normal dice, while Jyn rolls 1 normal and 2 green, which I find less successful. 4:17:02 As I mentioned earlier, subjugated systems count as imperial systems, therefore I would have put Jan on Geonosis, where I already had a bunch of blue icons. Without those, Piett could easily succeed in opposing the mission. 4:26:40 With the Confrontation card, the chosen leader is only eliminated at the end of the command phase, so he can still participate in other battles and missions in the same system this round and in the case of a space battle would still go on, he could retreat the ships. 4:29:06 He would actually roll with 6 dice, because in terms of missions, one can either roll black or red dice up to a maximum of 10. 4:31:28 That mission cannot be resolved in Kashyyyk, because it does not have imperial loyalty. 4:32:15 You cannot reveal Rapid mobilization, because you already passed at 4:29:45. The carrying out is what happens at the end of the command phase. Just in case, let's say you revealed before passing, because it wouldn't make a difference as there were no missions attempted on Kessel. 4:41:35 You cannot build from (nor deploy to) Kashyyyk, because there is an opposing unit blocking (plus it should still be sabotaged). 4:57:42 Why didn't you send anybody to oppose? There is quite a good chance opposing 2 dice with 1 die. Every figure is a unit. With only a structure, you still do combat and use combat card and can win with it despite not rolling a die. If the stormtrooper is not dead after the 1st round of combat however, the structure is auto-destroyed, because you didn't roll die during the ground combat. 5:05:20 Leaders are unaffected by system destruction. 5:05:34 You cannot build units from the Rebel Base Space, because the base is revealed and there is an imperial unit in the base's system. You've received a few very bad guidances throughout this gameplay.
At 3:10:15 Kyle explains when multiple leaders are in combat, you can add all their tactical values of the theater to determin how many rerolls that player will get. The rules of the expansion state: "If a player has multiple leaders in the system, he uses only the highest ground and space values of his leaders in the system". So this example, the rebel player would have had 2 rerolls for space combat (as opposed to 2 + 1 + 1 = 4 rerolls).
While this game has been out for quite awhile now, it’s a classic. Especially with the expansion, which is about as perfect as can one can expect. It only elevates an already great game. One of my favorites, and one that I can’t see becoming stale.
at 3:21:00 i just wanted to note that Kyle does not commit a leader to combat until Edward has committed and moved all units into Geonosis. it's a small but potentially significant timing matter that hides some information from the attacking player. the order when Activating Systems is Place Leader > Move Units > Reveal Base > Combat (this is when Kyle would commit Saw which Edward would not know when deciding which units to move in) > Subjugate (if still applicable)
I've played this twice, both against the same person and both as the Rebels. My first game I took a feet into the Death Star with the plans, rolled just under what I needed, already had recrutied Luke and the "one in a million" card, used it, and blew up the Death Star. Most freaking epic first play. Second play I outlasted the timer, obviously can't be as exciting, but it was sweet to grind one out and suceed. It's so daunting being the Rebels.
I played this game 4x as the rebels (pre expansion) and in the 4th game I finally won! The inspiration and much of the DNA for this excellent game comes from the far more complex but brilliant Freedom in the Galaxy (SPI/AH) which originally came out shortly after the first Star Wars.
My Top 5: Empire, Rogue One, Jedi, New Hope, Sith My brother and I bought the game and expansion when they first came out. We play every year or so, especially being 1000 miles apart. We love the theme and battle mechanics of the game. The Empire player (me) needs to expand around the board, looking for the base. The Rebel player (my brother) should be aggressive early, and try to trap the Empire player from expanding. Love the game. Great job and teach Edward!
Quick question. When Kyle placed loyalty marker on Saleucami @ 2:53:25 and then changed his mind @ 2:55:33, shouldn't the loyalty marker on Saleucami been removed?
It would be great to get an "upgrade pack" for this game that comes with prequel ships/units/cards/leaders. Honestly get a double sided map, prequel/sequel; incorportate some tv material in like Andor, Mandalorian, Bad Batch; get the units/leaders/cards etc. for all it; throw it all in one big box and it would sell out instantly.
Hannibal and Hamilcar. Mark Simonitch game. It’s beautifully made and has some interesting mechanisms people love or hate (combat). Can run long but tells some great stories along the way and isn’t a game you can find much play of for some reason. I think that game would fit very nicely in this head to head you guys are having. That’s my vote.
in basically the same system, i would also recommend Caesar: Rome vs. Gaul which came out in 2020. it's just my personal opinion but Mark made some improvements in the intervening 25 years to the system. it's a very different game as the Gauls play an asymmetric game against the Roman powerhouse but it's really good.
Listened to an HC podcast today and Edward referenced Hannibal and Hamilcar and desire to play! Coincidence since I mentioned it as a please play 6 days ago. I think a full play through would secure HC an exclusive on it too. Cant find a full play through anywhere. Defo HC territory since it would probably be a 6 hr stream with a teach.
Ok, no joking: My suggestion for next "TWO PLAYER THEMATHIC GAME" is FOG OF LOVE. This is a crazy simulator of a romantic relationship, so its kind of Co-Op, buuut its not, as real romantic relationships in real life are not, lol. And its SOOOO STRATEGIC (there are some scenarios that are sooo difficul) and funny and silly at the same time, I just pictured you two laughing a lot with that game.
Thanks A LOT for the stream!!! Next time: Rebel Systems yhat are subgugated are actually Imperial Systems, is like the rebel Icon does not exist until it clears out. And for next time, a MAP for the Imperial, there are lots of maps out there, is a super good addition to get everything in the head. THANKS FOR THE STREAM, ITS SUPER FUUUN
I printed and laminated an image of this board. So the Empire player could use it as a sheet to mark off planets, note thoughts/ideas etc. All info they had anyway, but just made it quicker for some of the decision making etc.

I'm exactly the same, 6 years on my shelf of opportunity and just dying to play it.

26 min and we get a Rogue One is the best Star Wars movie from the Rebel player, let's freaking go!! Rebellions are built on hope!
Holy analysis paralysis, Batman!
4:33:30 There are a couple of maps on BGG that are great for keeping track of which planet's the Empire player has eliminated from consideration.

Took me 3 evening to find the time to watch. =)
Great game!
We appreciate you finding and making the time to watch! It was a lot of fun to stream this one!👍🏼

Dune War for Arrakis should be next.
Wholeheartedly agree with this. Dune War for Arrakis would be absolutely amazing to see here. For the teach alone it would be worth it
Came here for this comment
Not even near the Rebellion in terms of class and replayability.
@@agressia5582 Who claimed that?
No one said that and I doubt you have even played it, there's plenty of replayability and class is a pointless term. @@agressia5582

Are we enjoying the steam, YES! It would be great to see this played on May 4 or 5, and either a couple days before/after Christmas.

Any plans of playing Eclipse Second Dawn for the Galaxy? Would love to see that one
Rogue One definitely the best Star Wars movie

How about something like Meltwater or Labyrinth: the War on Terror for your next game
It bothers me that they ribbon under the video assigns red to the empire and green to the rebellion, it's supposed to be the other way around!
Dune War for Arrakis next!
As a kid always called A T A T "At Ats" ATST "Scout Walkers"
Thanks A LOT for the stream!!!

2.49.50 - you cannot deploy units to remote systems.
Whoops

Agree that Rogue One is the best! Not a fan of any of the other most recent new stuff, but Rogue One is a masterpiece.
Great game, but Kyle didn't play as well as I expected he would.
Rouge One was good, possibly the best "new" film, but not even close to the best. Empire was the best Star Wars Film.... I'm 46 fyi
You’re welcome back anytime;)
@@Heavycardboard 😉😆
"Rogue One" is not a Star Wars movie, it's a Disney Star Wars movie.
Is it really a Disney Star Wars movie if it's good?
Revenge of the Sith is the best
Too slow
🤷♂️😂
Rogue One is not the best one
Like this game. Strangely the video description didn't contained their twitch link, but found it on the general info YT part:
