    Enormous strategy discussion thread!
You absolutely can use sabotage effectively with a disadvantage, it's much harder for the Empire to remove sabotage tokens if they're on subjugated systems instead of loyal systems. The starter card doesn't work on subjugated, only loyal. This is not just useful in limiting Imperial troops, but their distance to the front line and forcing Imperial leaders to focus on things of this nature by making them turn systems loyal and then free of sabotage reduces their movement.
With the Death Star secured and the base revealed, I'd just be focused on keeping that plans secured and moving the Death Star while drawing project cards. Looking intensely forward to just leaving the Death Star there and destroying the planet.
When a player keeps building up on the Rebel base, it's a good idea to switch gears a bit and start playing the intel gathering card often. You can very quickly eliminate where the Rebel base is and can move to, letting you concentrate your forces more and largely ignore entire regions of the board.
You can boil most Imperial strategy into one of 3 things - spread (suppression, loyalty, & units all over), disruption (interfere with the ability for Rebels to take action, mostly by taking leaders out), and investigation (lots and lots of probe cards). Keep this in mind when playing Rebels, you can get a rough idea of what the Empire is going to do every round. Know what the Imperial player is focusing on, for example, Kris focused mostly on spread and disruption, but complained a bit about not narrowing things down when he could just start drawing 3+ probe cards a turn if unopposed by then with the units in the Rebel base, that's a starting card. This also reduces where the Rebellion can relocate to, which also means the Empire no longer needs to spread in that direction so it can concentrate its forces.
If you want to prevent that much probing as the Rebels keep most of your forces outside the Rebel Base, you can always pull them in with the Rapid Mobilization card and you move first. This also lets you resist Imperial spread a bit more and try to reduce Imperial resources. You can also use this as a way to suddenly move troops from one end of the Galaxy to another with two commands if you have any one of the send troops from the Rebel base cards thus hitting the Empire hard where vulnerable with sudden fade and strike.
As the Rebels, be smart about how you play sabotage. It can be very useful throughout in preventing Imperial spread, not just in building but deployment. Most of the time the Empire cannot remove sabotages on suppressed systems, this can very heavily limit their ability to send units to the front line. Similarly, don't be afraid to use Build Alliance as an offensive card to remove Imperial support and reduce their ability to build. It can oft be much more important and useful to deny the Empire its more powerful units than for the Rebellion to gain such. The Rebels can do a lot with little thanks to their powerful high movement cards and ability to start things anywhere, as well as the fact that their goal isn't to fight on even terms with the Empire but to just squeak by until the Empire can no longer sustain itself. The Empire has to have a substantial force on each planet it wants to guarantee remains suppressed or to prepare for loyalty removal, as well as to spread across the board.
As the Empire I do usually try to prevent the Rebels from being able to build anything that can compete on equal footing - minimize Mon Cala ships in particular, unless I really want to use the Death Star in which case reduce fighter production as much as possible. Nebulon Frigates can also be pretty dangerous due to their good health and quick build, as the Rebels I'd suggest building all 6 of those over the blockade runners in my experience, just make sure you're ready to get rerolls for them. I managed to take down an SSD, ISD, 3 gozantis, and 2 TIEs using 3 Nebs, a Mon Cala, a transport (which admittedly helped me because my opponent destroyed that before the Nebs for some reason) and Jedi Luke. Most of the damage was dealt by Nebs. All that remained of the Empire after my fleet was defeated was one fighter and a gozanti. This was on Coruscant. I almost managed to take the Core by emptying my Rebel base against him, and forcing him to bring everything there guaranteed my victory by pulling away the fleet closest to my base (on Dantooine, because I get to joke about Leia talking on it but also it's the least expected of the outer rim as it's close to Coruscant and very much out of the way from resources or me building forces).
As the Empire it usually makes more sense to prioritize TIEs over Strikers. Standard TIE/LN's are needed to deal with the waves of fighters while the ISDs should take care of ships. That said this does change if the Rebel player is mostly playing with ships, it might be better to put down Strikers then.
I also suggest keeping an absolute fleet of TIE fighters on your Death Star at all times. 6 minimum, I've set as many as 12 there. Even if I have the Secured Plans. A Rebel strike can come from anywhere at any time with some cards. If you as the Rebellion have fighters on the board you can use a card to bring 5 back to base, then you can use one of a number of cards to deploy them directly onto a Death Star. If you wipe out the black dice rolls of the Empire (ships and TIEs) and keep just 2 or 3 fighters alive you have a really solid chance of surviving long enough to destroy the Death Star. Took me two sets of squadrons last time but managed to do it. As the Empire be very aware of this, the Death Star is incredibly powerful but it can be a major liability if you're not adequately protecting it. So long as you wipe out the Rebel fighters in-system there is no threat at all to the Death Star though. If a Rebel fleet has no fighters (or especially if the Objective card hasn't reached II yet) it might actually be worth it to just send the Death Star alone because they literally can't destroy it. Note this essentially guarantees retreat, not destruction.
Really don't understand why Kris put the Death Star construct over there. I mean I get that it could threaten areas back there when finished but it's way too close to a large Rebel force with no back up, no TIE defense, nothing.
It is sometimes worth destroying Rebel fleets just to prevent them from being drawn into the final battle or being deployed in the above manner, but if you can force them to flee to the Rebel base instead that's going to let you start drawing Probes really fast. Ground troops are not as important and can be left to be dealt with later sometimes, though. Similarly it is also worth it to destroy Imperial fleets, but even more important to destroy Imperial ground troops, and far more than it is to keep Rebel ground troops alive. If the Empire has no ground troops, it can't spread anything.
There's really not many truly hard to play objective cards besides the one about Coruscant, you just need to know how and when to go for them. Though I do admit the ground combat one can be a bit annoying if you never pull any of the cards that let you send Rebels from the base onto an Imperial subjugated planet since your goal is pretty much just holding out and retreating as necessary. The Empire can attempt to oppose various ones like the popular support, but that costs other commands the Empire could be doing and thus time giving you other advantages. They're not all fantastic but they are not terrible. It also isn't a bad idea to at first use the draw objective cards play a few times to get to the level II objectives early and choose them out as you go.
As the Empire, if you can block off Rebel retreat by occupying most of the galaxy and having probe cards everywhere else, you can be pretty leisurely about hitting the Rebel base, take the time to concentrate your forces and then throw everything at it.

Love this game, hope you play some more of it. Great video and amazing editing, you made it really easy to follow what was going on.
I don't think you played rapid mobilization right, that gets resolved when you flip it over, but you don't actually move the base until the end of the turn. So basically, the imperial player gets the whole turn to wipe the rebellion out before you can escape.
Also, I know the reble player said he didn't get much value from sabatoge, but this is a super powerful mechanic. Keep in mind that the only reliable way to get rid of these is with research and development. That can only be played in a system with imperial loyalty, not in a subjugated system.

I feel like in the last round it would have been his (the rebel players) best bet to proactively attack the larger imperial force in space only to destroy as much carrier capacity as possible so the ground assault would be more likely to fail. Also the imperial player couldn't use any Admiral in the space fight as if they did they would be blocked from moving their forces to attack the rebel planet in the same turn

    • @MolnarG007
      @MolnarG007 4 месяца назад

      Exactly my thoughts.
I would have attacked Malastare, since Rebel starts Command phase. 3 (2+1) Mon Calamari cruiser and 3 Y wings can do a lot, reducing carry capacity of the Imperial player. AND the Imperial cannot use leader otherwise his forces stuck there.
It would have been 3 black + 2 green + 9 red dice (limited 5), + leader's rerolls for Rebel vs. 8 black (limited 5)+9 red (limited 5) (no rerolls) for Imperial in the Space theater. I say he would have had a strong chance for even winning, or at least destroy a lot of carrying capacity with that many red dices.
Then trying to survive the incoming ground attack (those shield generators are nasty). Not easy but not impossible this way.
OR attacked Naboo, that Super Star Destroyer with 2 black and 3 red dices (6red hp), vs 2 black + 2 green + 7 red dice (limited 5), + leader's rerolls (11 red hp, 3 black hp)... if it is destroyed all ground forces in Naboo are stuck. Then activating the Rhodia system would bring back more ground units and the cruiser from Bothawui, space is lost but on the ground.... vs only the units from Malastare ground forces.... again even combat but those shield generators would have saved him.

Great playthrough and a nice setup. I do a fair few of these myself but they don't look or sound as good as yours. Also great editing you have :)
I spotted a few rule mistakes and thought to collate them for you to benefit future games. Ive made plenty myself over time so it doesnt really matter because theoretically you the rules could have been printed as you played.
    - At 3:00 ish, Empire player uses the Motti card wrong. You should read the Motti recruit card properly :) While it gives you a 5th starting leader, you have to place him and grand Moff into an imperial system. Which makes the empire only have 3 actions in round one not 5.
    - At 11:42, empire uses the Vader action card to capture a leader who did a rescue mission but this only works if Vader is already in the system which he was not.
    - At 24:55 the empire uses planetary conquest to move units out of a system that already contains an imperial leader. This card does not let you bypass the leader unit lock rule.
    - At 47:20 the empire player used a mission in a system but did not roll for it. You did this a fair few times over all. What you missed though is even if there is an opposing leader in the system with no skill icons for your attempted mission, you must still roll 1 success. So Vadar playing "Hunt Them Down" would need to roll 3 dice and needs 1 success even with the rebel leader there that has no dice.
    - At 51:15 the rebel player uses a leader without tactic values to activate and move units on the board. You can only do this with leaders that have tactic values.
    - At 1:02:48 the rebel player talks about how it would have been good to retreat but couldn't as the empire already retreated. The active player gets to choose first, and as the rebels attacked, that means you did have priority.
    - At 1:07:24 the rebel player activates "Rapid Mobilization" immediately which is a huge mistake. As written on the card it only resolves at the end of the phase. I do think the rebel player had a good shot to attack the empire in Mygeeto with only their ships. Go all in, try to destroy the whole lot, and then none of the empire ground units there can make it to the rebel base.

I think the Rebel player is supposed to make all his leader-to-mission assignments before the Imperial player makes his, and only in the Command phase do they take turns.

Loved the game, appritiate the editing! Thumbs up!
I have noticed the following rule breaks:
5:53 Imperial player moved 3 units into Cato Neimoidia from Corellia without hyperdrive into another system. They need a carrier, all 3 units.
Note later i saw the carrier in that system i presume they noticed the error (06:40-) so it was ok.
11:05 (11:35) Rebel freed his captured leader, then Imperial used an action card to capture one of the rescuers. However that action card has Vader on it.
"Action cards used during a mission or combat can only be used if one of the leaders shown on the card is already in the system
in which the mission or combat is occurring. The only exceptions are action cards that specifically move the leader to the system."
This means he has to be in that system in order to use it (Action cards need the leader, Mission cards not only give extra success if leader used that is in picture). Literally Vader can capture someone who tried rescuing if he is already there. Note this card don't allow Vader to be placed there, you need some other mission, system activation with Vader to place him in the system with the captured Rebel leader previously.
Note captured leaders can be moved as any combat unit, so Vader could invade something (activate a system), then move fleets, units, and the prisoner to himself. Also if the Rebel ever saw Vader can do this should suspect anytime Vader is with the prisoner the Imperial player might have this card.
LATER (one mission later) he did put Vader in the system to carbon freeze, but it's too late.
30:30 Rescuing captured leader. Yes Mon goes to the Rebel base, but i quote "After rescuing a leader with a MISSION, any leaders assigned
TO THAT MISSION may also move to the “Rebel Base” space. Any other leaders in the system stay in the system.". There were no leader assigned to rescue mission, the rebel used his Millenium Falcon ring. Therefore the rescuers should have stayed in that system. (Those 2 leaders were assigned to the Sabotage mission card)
35:49 (and many other cases) "Pass." "I also pass."
"Command phase: A player may choose to pass at any time during the Command Phase. When a player passes, he cannot use his leaders to reveal missions or activate systems for the rest of this Command Phase."
So passing means you can only react from the leader pool for resisting missions, and react being attacked but cannot A. activate system to attack B. cannot reveal and do his mission cards. So in this game there is only hard pass.
During the end, final round, my thoughts:
    It was epic.
-the Rapid Mobilisation is not instant, it only happend at the end of the command phase.
"The “Rapid Mobilization” card’s ability is resolved at the end of the Command Phase, immediately before starting the
Refresh Phase. The Rebel player does not make any decisions about this card until the end of the Command Phase."
Meaning the Rebel can decide not to do it or do it. If does it then he checkes probe cards, etc.
-I would have attacked Malastare, since Rebel starts Command phase.
    Again Kudos for the video!
99.99% of the things were done flawlessly. :) Loved all of it!

*Rules Clarifications:* Rapid Reinforcements only takes effect at the END of the current turn during Refresh, not when played. He could not move the base. When passing you end your entire command phase, only being able to make opposing actions or add leaders to a battle. You can no longer activate systems or missions if you pass. Return all non-played cards to hand.
The death of Yoda was absolutely hilarious. I just imagine that Yoda comes out of hiding to go train Leia, but immediately gets unceremoniously gunned down by a squadron of stormtroopers in hiding while Luke and Vader apprehend Leia for a family chat about why she won't join them at the Sith dinner table.

I may be wrong about some of the following but:
    1) 'Early Promotion' is a great card but it requires both motti and grand moff be placed on an imperial system. They shouldn'tve been able to do anything else that 1st turn
    2) You can only activate Vader's 'It is your destiny' card if Vader was already in the system where the rescue occurred. Which he was not. I don't think you would've been able to recapture leia
    3) Empire can only have one captured leader at a time and carbonite freezing counts as being captured. When you captured luke, you would've had to release leia
    4) Rebels shouldn'tve been able to play death star plans during the space battle on Tatooine. Empire had a Death Star Under Construction, not a Death Star. The game treats these two things as different
    5) When Vader 'hunts them down' on Tatooine, Rebels didn't send a leader to oppose but Jan was already there and by virtue of being there opposes the mission, shouldve been 3 Empire dice vs 1 Rebel die
    6) Empire retreated from the battle on bothawui which is fine. Rebels indicated they wanted to retreat but could'nt... they can. Both players are allowed to retreat from a battle
    7) Rebels played 'rapid mobilization' to move the rebel base because they were convinced they'd lose the battle on rodia. Rebels resolved it immediately but rapid mobilization does not resolve immediately. it's resolved at the very end of the command phase. it should've been the very last thing to resolve. The rebel base should've stayed on rodia until the end of the turn

    • @MolnarG007
      @MolnarG007 4 месяца назад

      6. They did it wrong. The active player was the Rebel, so he states if he retreats or not then and only then the Imperial can decide.
      (few cards change turn order).
Also the rule states "Starting with the current player, each player has an option to retreat." However under Retreat "A player cannot retreat if his opponent does not have any
units in the system." So if the active player retreats and leaves no unit behind (all SHIPS must retreat, but ground units and TIE fighters can be left behind").
There are some other details like you must have at least 1 unit that can retreat to retreat, etc. etc.

  • @chrismurphy9932
    @chrismurphy9932 Год назад +2

You probably have to play the final battle in Rodia anyway (unless something weird happens or you manage to survive the battle, which means you probably win the game anyway), as the rapid mobilization card only takes effect at the end of the phase (end of the command phase in this case) so he could still move all of his imperial units there and attack you. Also, a few times you resolved missions without rolling a die because there was an opposing leader in the system without the matching mission symbols. This is incorrect, the attempting player still has to roll at least one success regardless of whether the opposing leader has any symbols matching the attempted mission because the attempting player has to roll greater than the opposing player. No successes vs no successes is considered a tie and ties go to the opposing player.

1- he skips ALL of his turns in the command phase
    or
2-he skips just ONE turn, then is the other player's turn and again player A turn? (and so go on).
