- In this Physics video of Surface Tension in Hindi for class 11 we explained angle of contact in surface tension. The angle subtended by the tangent on the surface of a liquid drop on a solid surface from the point of contact is called the angle of contact. When the solid attracts the liquid molecules, the angle becomes obtuse, and when repulsion is there, the angle becomes acute. It is all due to surface energy for the interface.

I don't understand why 'Sls' is acting towards the right. The cohesive forces of the liquid causes the water to pull closer together and the adhesive forces between the liquid and solid cause the liquid to spread out. So both the forces are acting. Why Should 'Sls' necessarily act towards the right?
