      Well actually as you said this was not in highest league game BUT Jokerit was in the main league decades but at one point they went to KHL playing in Russian hockey league. They returned playing in Finnish league some years ago but they were not welcome to the main league so they had to start from lower league. They will rise back in main league within few years. So they do have big and commited fan base and most likely you will get better atmosphere in there then in some countryside main league games. For me Jokerit is worst rival team and I do support their opponent HIFK that is also playing in Helsinki. So this is not support speach for Jokerit but what comes to atmosphere this is only division game you can get good and fanatic fans.

      We had the best one, Hakametsä. Nokia Areena is awesome, but it is not yet "Home". I think the only way to explain is to say Old icehall was for hockey and more intimate. New Areena is next lvl, but very clinical. Love from Tampere.

    • @kilariilari

      @@TheNiittylahti Old hockey halls are better then new ones. Like in Helsinki this hall has better atmosphere then newer Helsinki Halli that was home on Jokerit earlier. Did anyone mention the most famous players to come from Jokerit? Meaning Jari Kurri and Teemu Selänne. Jokerit is the other team from Helsinki. The other one is HIFK. That arena is HIFK's home arena. Jokerit was one of the top teams in the Finnish league, then they went to play in KHL and now the whole situation is still unraveling. Their home arena in Helsinki stands still empty as thighs are, because of the Russian ownership.

    • @Aquelll

    • @kilariilari
      @kilariilari Месяц назад +1

      @@Aquelll this is same thing in European football (for americans I mean soccer). The true fanbase is grass level ultras that live and die with their team. It is 100% more authentic then going to watch NHL or Baseball game in states. Way too commercial, too clean. The soul of competitive sports has been overrun by millions of dollars and making as much profit as possible. In states its more like social event to meet peoples. In there its not about fanatic lifelong relationship with your team (I do exclude some Canadian Original-6 fans like most fanatic Hab fans etc..)

There is even point system for it like for games, you go and donate blood and mention your favorite Mestis team -> team gains points. It is called Hengenpelastajaliiga i.e. Life savior league. It is said that the helmet is carried by a player who gives a good example inside the rink and outside. It is chosen by the team and for a month at once.

    3 hotdogs for 7.5€ is daylight robbery 😂Glad you enjoyed, but tbh "Mestis" league games are not really the top league games, that SM-Liiga has, and the reason why the Jokers were dropped out of SM-liiga well, we are not on the best terms with our eastern neighbour and the owner of Jokerit sold a majority market share to them only a few years before the invasion started, so we can't have today a team in our national league that is owned by Russia, so they were sanctioned out, and just recently in 2023 the Jokerit team was sold back to Finnish ownership so Jokerit were granted a license to play in Mestis league.
    So if you want to see the best hockey Finland has to offer I hope you will go to Tampere, definitely best icehall in Finland.

      We’ll see. Many of my American friends support Trump but they’re wealthy. Here in Finland people mostly think about the US foreign politics, which may often not be important to the Americans. In Finland the president doesn’t have almost any interior policy power anymore but the prime minister and government parties are responsible for the interior and EU politics. We have a lot of parties in the parliament. Don’t try to memorize this. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Those are some quality highest league games. Nowhere near NHL level but still pretty high level hockey. Playoffs are obviously best time here also.

    Everyone: Finns are quiet and reserved and don't like to talk too much to strangers.
    Robert at the Mestis game: 8:08 --> :D
    My dad took me in Jokerit game when I was probably 3-4 years old in '95-'96 and been a fan (not this enthusiastic tho) ever since. In 2014 they went to journey to KHL under part ownership with Russian oligarchs and after the conflict between Russia and Ukraine they decided to fall off from KHL and the future was very uncertain. When they announced their comeback as fully Finnish organization, playing on the home soil I was so happy and immediately booked tickets with my brother and father to go see and support them. Those jerseys are also the one they used in the '90s and bring back so many memories.
    I also like to point out we see The Americans i.e. US citizens often arrogant and loud but find Canadians very polite and modest, almost like us. For me you are two totally different breeds.

It was packed, everyone was standing, constant cheering and chanting. If I go to a junior game here in Canada, the stands are empty, everybody just sits there, the only cheering is when a goal is scored.

    Fans are a tribe. That's why they stand behind a team. Doesn't matter if it's a Jokerit, Ottawa Senators or Manchester United - there's always a tribe who support the team. People like to belong in a like-minded group. So, now you know the answer, if you ask "Why do you support Jokerit (or whatever team), and what's so special about them? Simple; It's tribalism :)
