As of now, I wouldn't buy these unless you have an Apple device. Or plan on getting an Apple device. e.g. iPad/iPhone to get a decent range with these.

Is this still the case with the range issues?
From my own experience with wireless headphones even the expensive ones you'd be lucky to go 2 rooms away from your phone before you lost Bluetooth...
It's never been a big thing to me and given the fact I can't see my guages from 30ft let alone 300 - I don't understand this distance importance much. As long as the air temperature is measurable through a cold room door I'd be happy with that.
I'm using a Samsung note 10 and really struggling to make a decision between the fieldpiece probe set and the testo gen 2 smart probe set.
Most of the equipment I work on has a 3/8" liquid line and a 5/8" - 3/4" Suction line.
My main concern is I work more on refrigeration than ac systems although this might be changing...
Fieldpiece I've had no experience with at all. I've been using a testo 570 2 for the past 2 years and it's been absolutely solid. No issues no calibration problems.
I had considered upgrading to the new 557s but I've heard bad things about those. The general consensus is from the guys on you tube is stick with the 570s even when I mentioned the sman480 people seem to shun away and say stick with the 570s.
Which isn't helping me at all with the smart probe decision.
People complain about the fieldpiece app constantly say the probes bounce in and out of the Bluetooth connection, sometimes they won't fit on valves without an adapter and the batteries are endlessly going flat.
Quite a few people say they've had issues with them leaking the warranty is short.
Testo on the other hand people have said even the gen 2 range is terrible, the pipe clamp temperatures have no adjustment and can be 10 degrees off.
Strangely enough most technical testing sites in controlled environments use testo for accuracy.
The actual information and opinions out there are endless and nobody appears to have a actual conclusion.
I believe a lot of this is because of name preferences and what they're used to using. Some of it is because their channel is supported by the manufacturer.
I guess all I'm trying to find out is whether or not there really is much difference between the 2 smart probe sets and which ones I would be better off spending £500 using?
Usually I research things and find a positive answer but this one time I keep coming back puzzled and no better off that I was before.
Maybe you could offer me some honest advice? I would really appreciate it.

    These engineers !, dang it!
we're up on roofs and hauling these things around all day!
    I don't need a big case !
Also how do you identify the probes ? Tape , paint ?
Or just gauge up and cross your fingers!
Great honest job Brother Jon !!

    • @jonhvac
      @jonhvac  5 лет назад +2

Yeah, I'm not sure if I like the case either. I might put them in an Apache 2800 case. The probes are serial numbered. Once you assign them in the app it's all set from there. The kit come with red and blue stickers. I like using red and blue electrical tap though. Say the two 549i pressure probes are serial numbered 100 & 105. I would assigned the 100 probe to the low side and the 105 probe to the high side.

I got about 100’ before a probe dropped out, and they were in the front of the house, main level, I was in the back yard, which was the same level as the walk out basement. So you’re talking one wall with electronics (TV room), and a 6” exterior wall, not to mention the angle which introduces a floor and concrete wall of the basement. That’s using an iPhone XS Max.
