    Two nice restorations. I have a black one with the spun wheels which I've had since childhood. Time for a makeover I think.

    • @davidhyde4329
      @davidhyde4329  5 лет назад

      Thanks Les, much appreciated. My advice (not that you asked for it) would be - keep the black and buy another for the repaint. Owning a toy from childhood is something many of us never thought to do. I daresay there are many, like me, who wish they had kept one. Not my business I know - but you may regret changing it 👍👍👍 ... Hi David, two great restorations of one of my favourite castings (although I think that the 36G taxi is even better!). Nice to see that you prefer to use a period silver rather than the ubiquitous Molotow chrome which is overused on some Dinky, Corgi and Matchbox restorations. I'm looking forward to seeing your next restoration.

    • @davidhyde4329
      @davidhyde4329  5 лет назад

      Thanks Derrick, much appreciated. Thanks also about the silver I use. I have not had a single comment about this. Surprising as many people do use the chrome pen. There were no chrome pens in the 50s and 60s - at lease none used by Dinky Toys (could see a use for it on some models with 'chromium' plated parts though)👍👍👍 ... David

      I said the same in another video about the use of paint, and not the Molotov pen. It's too bright.The silver looks original.

      Hi TR - I came across your channel recently when I noticed you restored a Dinky Silver Wraith. I was taken aback by the mention of my channel in such glowing terms. I have played it to all the members of my family and am now held in much higher regard.
      So, let's get a mutual admiration thing going here. I love your video too. Not only the content but your relaxed delivery (like listening to Don Williams) and superb video quality. I have subscribed and will now catch up on your content.
      Best Regards ... David

I have featured your videos on my little channel, including "Sunday Running - Deresley" which I thought was brilliantly conceived, produced and presented. Top shelf. I'm flattered to know that you've watched my work (passion really) and look forward to your next offering, rail or road, with great anticipation.

    I think taxis were traditionally yellow in Derby (Blue in Bristol?), but that does seem a little bit 'niche' for Dinky Toys to have picked up on. I suspect your comment about the US market must be right.

    Along with the difference of a front plate, it seems to me that there are very slight variations in the top lights as well, is that true? Great restorations, David!

    • @davidhyde4329
      @davidhyde4329  5 лет назад

      Hi there. I have checked the lights on both of the castings and I can't see a difference. I haven't found a reference that indicates a change of tooling took place. I think I come down on the 'broken off number plate' side of the argument - but I am prepared to be proved wrong!! ... David

    Having seen the care and professionalism you applied to this restoration, I cringe to think of the mistreatment I used to give my Dinky toys 'back in the day'. Could I ask a couple of questions though
    (1) would it not be better to tap the pillars with a small BA thread so that the base could be screwed on for the benefit of future restorers and
    (2) where did you get that paint stripper please? ( I have a couple to do myself but the Google search for Chemclean Eco-100 paint stripper brings up results that don't look like that which you are using). Thanks for taking the trouble to make the video and replying ( I hope).
    Regards,
    Brian

    • @davidhyde4329
      @davidhyde4329  4 года назад

      Hi Brian, many thanks for your comments and questions. I know some people tap and screw the bases. I can't see how it is 'better' to do this. After all, the original toys were not screwed together so I prefer to stick with the original look in this regard. As for the paint stripper m- you will note on my videos later that this I mentioned the same thing. It appears, for some reason, the stripper is no longer available. I have some left for a couple more restorations but after that I will be switching to Caustic Soda, which I have already purchased. Sorry the reply was a little late but I hope this helps ... David

    Hi David. Great video. Found your channel through your “operational” videos. Thought the operating system was very good and loved the videos. Is there any possibility you could email me the operating manual? Many thanks!

    • @davidhyde4329
      @davidhyde4329  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Stewart, many thanks for the comment. Others have asked for a copy of the timetable. My idea of using a timetable has changed (perhaps it's time to make a new video). My earlier attempts have proved cumbersome to operate. I streamlined it for the recent operation video and enjoyed the use of it. I will make a new 'timetable' video for passenger and goods operations ... David
