Love your videos Ben! I have been watching them for a while now and they have satisfied the need for skateboard-geekery during many evenings. Keep up the amazing work dude, keep on inspiring and shredding! Everything is possible with the right attitude, will, mindset, passion, dedication, perceverence, persistance and practise.
With a shoe like this the "secret" to good heelflips is to position the flip foot just like on an ollie. No toe hanging off. Might sound weird but trust me it will step up your heelflip game!
Thank's for the test! I was wondering about that new Lakai sole. The Sheffield, Manchester, Porter (etc!) sole got such a good boards feel is incredible! So this sole seems the same. I will try it!
Lakai are awesome! One core company that keeps it up with great designs, great team and staying true to skateboarding. and Ben - props for you for supporting skate shoe companies :)
Im on my 3rd day skating this shoe and I agree they skate amazing brand new. I always find my feet hurting a lot after a session in these shoes though. Overall a great shoe so far.
looooove lakais every style i have ever worn felt great to me bristols, sheffs, cams, etc.....been on some reynolds g6 cupsoles lately they are fantastic possibly my new fav but that break in period was rough! haha
I tried a number of different shoe brands over the years that I was skating a lot and I always ended up defaulting back to lakai. I really didn't like shoes that were too rigid and hard to bread in, but I also didn't want them to just turn to mush immediately. Lakai's lifespan was a little shorter than I would have liked, but they were the best compromise I could find, so when I wanted something reliably good, that's what I went for. Probably ended up skating lakais 75% or more
Good to hear, ive only had one pair of lakais and that was around 10 years ago. They gave me blisters so i never tried them again. Been thinking about getting a pair lately because ive heard good things.
I always loved the way Lakai skated but their vulcanized shoes haven't ever held up for long for me. I had a pair of the original Kingston that lasted 3 months of doing nothing but flip tricks for hours every day in my basement through the winter and were still good enough to skate for another month after winter. Marc Johnson's last shoe with them (now marketed as Daly) was a great shoe and actually lasted about a month and a half or so. Manchester Selects probably skated my favorite of them all but didn't last more than a month of skating everyday.
i got the gamechangers. love em. they feel great and i haven't had a sore foot for the 2 months of use. only negative is they both have identical fault lines/tears on the bottom where these metallic inserts sit. no idea what those are for but i might just get the elites next time. even though they're torn on the bottom they're still useable and should last a good while longer. no idea what the life of these should be though.
@@Deac0n_Blues I got the kingfoam inserts and theyre pretty awesome. Ive skated them every day for the past 3 months and i havent had any tears the graphic still looks new. I even got my grampa a pair cause his feet hurt all the time and he loves them lol
My favorite Lakai model is the Sheffield. I really like some of Lakai’s more stylish shoes like the Cambridge and Bristol, but the tongue for those models is too thick. It made it feel like my heel was slipping out because I can’t tie them as tight as I want. The thin tongue and overall design of the Sheffield allows me to get a real secure fit. I tried the Bristol and Cambridge once but I keep going back to the Sheffield. Best shoe I’ve ever skated. Also I’m going to stop worrying about dragging my heel on Noseslides. You just freed me from what now seems like a pretty silly concern. Thanks!
Ben i just found your channel. After watching a few videos i gotta say you def scratched my doubt about getting back into skating after 15 years. Were the same age. Your super good bro. I would pay money to be that good. Thank you for the inspiration ✊✌️
Ben Degros I know what you mean. That feeling when you finally land a trick you been practicing for months is the best feeling.. You ever been offered a sponsorship? You def skate good enough! Much Respect!
Very good review Ben! I wanted to review these on my website but i saw so many similarities to the lakai bristol shoe which didnt convince me to try them. The Lakai bristol though is one of my favorite from Lakai's line and i bet they skate pretty similar to the cambridge.
Funny you're so confident about the 10.5 fitting, as my experience was always that Lakai ran hella small, to the point I'd have to get one size bigger than I would normally.
I like the slip on Owen Lakai's. The outsole wears down so smoothly and it does have a great flick. But yea they do what out quicker. I had several pair of those though and loved them. They do get a bit floppy as they are not stiff at all to begin with. Which is both nice and annoying at the same time.
I like lakai. I skated a pair of flaco highs not to long ago that held up pretty good for durability but unfortunately started to get that floppy feel after a couple weeks like most of my other lakais in the past(specifically the Vulcs) tended to do
Yo Ben! Looks like the channel is starting to take off a little bit. You were at 19k subs last I looked and that wasnt too long ago. Keep it goin man! This is the best skate channel on youtube imo. Most of the other youtube skaters try too hard to be comedians.
I think my next pair of shoes will be lakais. I’ve been skating Nike’s for the last year or so. Recently got some Es’ that are cool. But I wanna mix it up
YOOOOOOOOOO UR BROTHER IS ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAV SKATERS MAN wish he was still doin his thing i always wondered what happened and why he stopped skating
Another Good one!! Try the Janoski slip ons(make sure heel is stiff) or the GT Blazer Lows good stuff but I’m skeptical on the durability they got floppy pretty quick but that’s part of the magic of these shoes.
I have a pretty big bias towards cupsole shoes with a lot of padding. Theyve always just felt better, skated better, and lasted a hell of a lot longer than any vulc shoe ive bought. However, on a whim I picked up a pair of adidas 3st.001's a couple weeks ago. And they feel amazing. They seem really durable and from the second i put them on in the store they felt perfect. There wasnt any break in time for me which was a pleasant change of pace. I think you mentioned in an earlier video that you liked a thinner shoe. You should definitely check these ones out, i dont think you'd regret it.
Another no nonsense review with bonus Montage. I also blew the sidewall to hell on these in about 4 weeks even though I don't (yet) have your array of tricks, far nicer grip than the Vans or Globe of similar style and yeah, zero screech on my lazy nose/tail slide heel drags.
Skating lakais at the moment, and i clearly don't skate as much as you so the longevity problem hasn't really been an issue. I get about 2 maybe 3 months out of a pair. But yeah they are by far my favourite shoe at the moment.
Man! I brake shoelaces every session lol. I like to do Fakie grinds and that does it every time. I’ve never tried Lakai but they seem like a great shoe. Maybe I’ll pick a pair next time.
I appreciate Your reviews some of them have really helped me. Also if I can can I ask you a question since you were so many shoes and new reviews are you the same size in Nike Sb and lakai? because I didn’t know if they were in a half so small or not or if I should get the same size.
should do a non-abrasive grip review. my experience was good though it didn't stay grippy for the life of that particular deck. got smooth after about a month of daily skating and the session that i realised i took a hefty slam. though the idea of infinite shoe longevity is pretty dope when the grip only costs about $15 to replace.
here in Brazil particularly, we tending to buy a new shoes and put the previous one to go skate hehe, was so much difficult to buy these brands on the 2000's, nowadays its easier
Hey, I like the channel. Very informative and good skating. Quick question for ya if ya have a second. I was wondering since you have reviewed so many different brand shoes you may know the answer to my question. In Nike Sb like I’m 10.5 in most very shoe is it the same for most lakai? Or do you have to go up a size? Thanks hope you see this.
I love your videos man! You should check out the lakai riley hawk 2. I'm also a big fan of lakai. Just have been trying to skate more gaps lately so switched out for some etnies marana michelins for the time being. Still have 2 pairs of the riley hawk 2s though. I love them lol
I had a pair of these. Thought they skated well and held up nicely but I kept rolling my ankle in them! I guess my feet might be too wide for the soles but I never felt stable enough in them personally.
Just Recently got some Lakai shoes but I'm just walking them...I don't like the feel to skate...I prefer the Etnies Chris Joslin pro shoe to skate....anyways great video Ben this makes me wanna give lakais another chance
man, youre pretty good at skating. gotta tip my hat. ever tried es'? I haven't changed shoe company in over 10 years. I like the accel slims, Gum. love Gum
When you say 6 weeks, is that skatung 5 days a week? I haven't tried skating Lakai. Maybe next time. I am back in the states for a few days so i was able to go try some shoes on and buy some. I went with the all leather Vans Gilbert Crockett pro 2. It will be the first all leather shoe i have skated. It has a gum sole.
yo you could review a box of cereal and i'd watch it p.s. I wanna see you do a review on the DC Kalis S as I think you'd rock em hard. Then again, you are so accustomed to Vulc atm you'd probably hate your life, haha.
Hi ben, what you are suggesting in terms of durability upgrade is a raised double wrap foxing tape, where theres 2 layers of foxing tape on the shoe instead of one. It does seem the new flaco 2 and riley has this raised and double wrapped foxing tape. If youre interested in other brands the best from vans pro line would be the chima 2 or emerica would reynolds 3 g6. Hoped that helped
I've had the Cambridge and Sheffield and I think overall I likes the Sheffield better. The Cambridge wouldn't lock on to my heel properly. The first week or so it felt like my push foot was going to fall out of the shoe. I had to do a heel lock loop on my push foot then it felt better. I'm so surprised how strong the suede is on these shoes. I'm definitely getting more. I've found the sheffield for around $30 on sale can't beat that.
I had the same problem with my heel. I forgot about it until you mentioned it. I think the tall squishy insole makes it worse. Once they settle in it wasnt so bad. I did have to tie them a little tighter than usual.
Those stock insoles didn't help that's for sure. I switched them out to Footprint Game changers. I would recommend those for the old aching back and knees.
I was going to get these shoes but if it only takes 3 weeks for them to look shot, economically i can’t justify getting them. Thanks for the video though!
I'm just trying to be 40 and tre flip like I'm 15. Plus, I'll be a cool dad not a regular dad.
