Life was not designed to be infinite and the only think that really matters is if the person who lived it did so to the fullest extent. And given the story you told, I'm certain your son lived it rocking.
Beyond sad hearing we lost Billy Joe. What a great songwriter. He could say with ten words what everybody else would use 25 words to say. He could craft a song so well. Texas has produced a ton of talented singer / songwriters but Billy Joe Shaver most definitely the top of the heap. Trust me that is saying a lot about him because those others are not the least bit slouches by any measure. The world just lost a treasure for sure.

I've seen Billy Joe on numerous occasions and all his performances were outstanding. I don't go to live shows anymore, but I don't think I've seen him since Eddy's passing. -Joe
I saw Shaver with Eddy on guitar out at Poodie's in the early 00s. I've been playing for 35 years and I'm a better-than-average player, I suppose...and it's not often that I say "I've never seen anyone do that on guitar" That night I saw Eddy do several things I'd never seen anyone do on guitar.
