Can we just take a second to recognize the supreme acting skills of Adam Driver? He was grossly underutilized and underappreciated in the sequel trilogy.
They're soulmates connected together through things stronger than we could ever imagine. When they finally come together on the same side, they bop him off. WHYYYYYYY!!!! DISNEY, YOU BETTER FIX THIS AND FIX IT QUICK!
Because he killed his father and 100's of people. You can hand wave that as nothing, but there are millions of people who saw the film who can't forget that. JJ gave Ben the best out. He was able to die as a hero sacrificing his life for others.
I'm not sure that it was entirely JJ Abrams . He didn't have as much control on this movie as he would've liked, Disney took away his freedom with this movie. I watched a video and it said something about the original script not killing kylo but I'm not sure.
I want him to come back so bad but Adam also mentioned the he has no plans on coming back to Star Wars. So if Ben does come back he’s not going to be played by Adam
A kiss of gratitude can definitely be romantic! The author herself tweeted that she kisses her husband in gratitude :) If anything, I've read it as Rey being grateful that she found her belonging; that she and her soulmate have unified as one
It was worded that way to appease people who don't like Reylo. But it was clearly a romantic kiss. I was never a fan of Reylo. But since it was more couched in reality enemies-to friends-to romantic partners. I didn't find it that odious. Also they communicated when not fighting like a couple who had been together a long time and just cut through the BS.
The force works in mysterious ways. Maybe the force created the dyad because it realized it is too much for one person to balance. Edit: Even though Anakin ultimately did balance the force, he himself couldn't accept what he had done. Ben was able to accept his actions and we see that by seeing him go to Exegol to help Rey. Now that I think about it, we see the father as god who is perfect. During the Mortis arc in the clone wars, Anakin was supposed to be the new "father", it was a decision the force itself made. But no one is perfect like god or the father. To make up for it's decision of choosing one person, it created a new dyad for this generation in the galaxy. Another thing I noticed: During the scene on Exegol, Palpatine states: "The life force of your bond, a dyad in the force, a power like life itself, unseen for generations". I'm starting to think that Bastila Shan and Revan were the last dyad the galaxy saw!
it could really, really have turned out so much better if they didn't panic and pull Palpatine out of their asses. So much lost potential, I was SO there for their connection and fascinating dynamic, the last jedi left me breathless with anticipation and the message that Rey was a nobody from the desert and was yet Ben's equal in the force was SO inspiring. But it was soiled by the need to make it the most star warsey star wars to ever star wars, making Rey a palpatine when the previous film suggested otherwise was a weak decision. Such a shame really.
*Fated to meet but not destined to be together.* 💔 I was watching The Force Awakens and I really thought they were siblings or cousins. But then I don't know, I just realized I unconsciously shipped them together. So I guess that's what the the writers trying to tell the viewers. I really didn't like how their story ended but I love their moments in TROS especially in that Death Star fighting scene and Exegol.
I like to think in an alternate universe they both lived and stayed together. Seems ridiculous and cheap writing to kill Ben off hes also the last of the skywalkers and solos.
Also that Rey is just okay with it? Half of a dyad dying is supposed to be the most unimaginable pain for the survivor, and Rey is just like “oh? okay..” *leaves
I'm not a big fan of JJ but it seemed weird to me that people say he retconned The Last Jedi when he seemed to expand on it especially the Rey and Kylo part
He didn't retcon anything. People who make that statement clearly ignore the context of both films. Kylo told Rey (probably from the memories he saw in her head) that her parents were nobodies. TROS clearly shows that the parents were in disguise as they were on the run. And it's highly unlikely that Rey at 5 years old is going to remember what her parents did for a living and their station in life.
@@vittoriacolona that's true everything Kylo said to her was true that they sold her for drinking money and that they were dead. I always found it weird that he said they didn't care about her it seemed like in the flashback we got in TFA that Rey was heartbroken to be separated from her parents which if they were drunks who didn't care about her I doubt she would have loved them that much
Ren ,rightly so, figured that anyone who sold their child really doesn’t care care. And please also remember that Ren was still very much immature in TLJ. He was upset at seeing Luke and that Snoke was using him. He is also a soldier and wants to be a tough guy like Vader. So he resorts to bullying and being mean to force or control others. But it doesn’t work on Rey. She might believe that her parents were nobodies, from her dim memories. But I don’t think she better they didn’t love her.

The novelization says the kiss was a show of gratittude, who says thank you by making out with them. The kiss was romantic

Ben's death was so stupid honestly. What's the point of the dyad if one dies anyway?
