Animal Crackers are one of the first things babies get to eat when they start getting teeth. P. T. Barnum was known as The Greatest Showman. He rose to fame when he founded The Barnum and Bailey Circus. "There's a Sucker Born Every Minute" is his most famous quote. 😂 (In case you don't know, sucker is a term for a gullible/naive person.)
Larry McMurtry (author of Lonesome Dove) was brought up in Archer City, TX which was a town about an hour from my hometown of Graham, TX. When they filmed the miniseries, it was filmed in and around Graham, and some of my friends were extras in the production.

As a Texan I have many fond memories of Frito pie. The point of animal crackers is the shape of the crackers.
I changed up Frito Pie now that I'm all grown up. I add onion, chopped tomatoes and if I'm the only one eating it, chopped jalapenos! When we were kids we'd always get Animal Crackers in the grocery store and Mom would let us open them up and eat them while were were shopping. We liked the little string handle.

Cracker Jacks is an American childhood icon treat. It was the first commercialized popcorn treat going back to 1893. I was sold in boxes at that time (still is) and it always contained a small prize. As kids we always had that as a snack at the movie theater, at baseball games, and if lucky, at home for special occasions. It was never a great product as far as taste, but as kids.....you loved it for the prize you got!!! It really is a nostalgic treat from our childhood in the USA.
The harmonica movie....Charles Bronson and Henry Fonda..."Once Upon A Time In The West" (1968). I like that one too.
Cracker Jacks use to come with a toy inside every box. They will also, forever be, connected to baseball, through the song "Take me out to the ball game." I will buy some, Boston Butt or Country style ribs, put them in my crockpot with a bottle of BBQ sauce. Let them cook all day and serve them with potatoe salad and cole slaw.
When I was little, the Crackerjack prizes were cool. Over the past 30 years,the prizes became skimpy and lame. Why not just charge more for the product and insert better quality prizes?

@@1lonelybeastieibe262I totally agree. Long ago I read that Augustus McCrae was Robert Duval’s all-time favorite role to play. That says a lot given the number of films he has been in. All the actors in this show were spot on, but Duval really stood out.

When we were kids, dad took us to the drive-in to watch a Clint Eastwood extravaganza. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly; A Fistful of Dollars; For a Few Dollars More; Hang'em High; and Play Misty For Me. It was just before dark when we got there, just before dawn when we left.
Mom didn't go because she didn't like "East Clintwood".

I couldn't stop laughing after Recky told Carol that she didn't need scissors, she had her man there. Then needed the scissors anyway. My scissors are only a step away from my kitchen.
Did those cookies taste of gingerbread. There is an almond windmill cookie, that is great with coffee, that has a taste of gingerbread in them.
Frito's makes "Scoops", especially for dipping.

I love that you don't edit your cats out. There are 4 cats in my house right now. My husband and I have 1, my son has 1 and my daughter and her fiancé have 2. My cat Loki loves seeing your cats! I love to put nacho dip with bean dip and eat it with Fritos scoops. My Maw-Maw (that's what we called my grandmother) used to make the best fig preserves that we would eat on biscuits or toast.
Cracker Jacks were first made in Chicago around 1900 to sell at baseball games👍 hence "take me out to the ball game.....buy some peanuts and cracker jacks"

Lonesome Dove is the best show. So worth the time to watch. Robert Duvall and Tommy Lee are the greatest. Do find a DVD player.
We didn't really grill very much, so instead we used to add some BBQ (barbecue) sauce to raw ground beef (or pork), shape them into burgers and pan-fry them. Top with a spoonful of sauce and onions fried in butter. Really tasty!

My grandma used to can whole figs and, I used to dig out a few figs from the jar for a little desert. Mmm mmm good 😊

The bean dip for the Doritos is much better when warmed up.
It also makes it more softer for scooping.

I was raised in a house where cats could only get in chairs and couches. The cats knew better than get on the counters or table. We kept water pistols around to squirt them if the got on the table. They learned quickly.
Lonesome Dove is the absolute best!!! You must watch. Robert Duval and Timmy Lee Jones are epic!! One of the best of all time.
Nacho cheese Doritoes are my favorite. The only problem is if I buy a big bag I can't stop till I eat them all lol.

Literally everything that was sent I love. Except for the birthday cake flavor stuff. Fig Newtons are one of my favorite snacks. My son hates them...more for me. They're better with a little bit of milk.

Here in Northern CA it is common to find arrowheads that are made from obsidian. Obsidian is volcanic glass. They are beautiful......glossy, shiny black. The last wild native American or "Indian" from the Yahi tribe was named Ishi. He lived deep in the Deer Creek Canyon area just north of our home and wandered into the Oroville area half starved in 1911. He eventually succumbed from tuberculosis in about 1918. We had vast Indian settlements in our area and you can easily find remnants of their life today. There are earthen depressions where they had their tents, pounding stones located in the creeks around our area where they processed their acorns, as well as the occasional arrowhead you can unearth while digging soil.

I remember the music from the old Clint Eastwood. 😊I would go to a drive-in movie with a date. And we did not watch much of the movie. But we could hear the old music. The good old days. Sometimes, I wish I could go back. Life was so much better, I think.

I feel your pain. I have two young cats and NO door can remain closed to them. They pitch a fit if doors aren't kept open. They believe they have the right to go anywhere in my home whenever they want, lol.

With the Stubbs BBQ sauce, for Recky, you could try "watering" some of the sauce down with some ketchup. Just a thought.
I think that the bean dip is much better if you warm it up In a pan with a little water. Leave it in the can, kind of like a double boiler . Same with the cheese sauce that you got before.

Got a short period of time our feral would have toys per box. S’mores is graham cracker, chocolate and marshmallow, so American have made everything with S’mores flavoring. Party dish, Golden Grahams Cereal, mini marshmallow and melted chocolate and mix quickly. Chex is a cereal, so American has “Christmas Crack” Chex mix, pretzel sticks and concessionari sugar.
Put the fritos in a bowl and put chili over the top . Yum!!! Frito Pie.

Fig Newton's and Animal Crackers remind me of childhood. Newton's were what grandma would give me and mom would toss me a box of Animal Crackers if I wasn't awful. Good times.
I grew up with Cracker Jacks as a kid. The best partis is the peanuts melded into the popcorn. Sooooo good. And you smelled an empty, new shot glass. Lol
Cracker Jack is a vintage snack made famous several decades ago. It is mentioned in the baseball song " Take Me Out to the Ball Game," A prize is included in each box. The new packaging is a reclosable bag. There is another caramel popcorn brand called Fiddle Faddle. Some varieties of Fiddle Faddle include pecans, almonds or cashews. I sometimes make my own combinations because I like extra cashews and pecans.
Cracker Jacks are a found child hood memory for me. Always came in a box and always had a surprise toy in a little package included. Best when you find the peanuts and eat with the caramel popcorn. I prefer the bean dip chilled myself.
My dog Victor eats the cookie from around the fig part of a fig newtons, and leaves the fig in the floor. He hates figs too, like Recky. Lol
It’s funny my grandmother was a award winning cook. She had so many cook books. One in particular sticks out in my mind. It had recipes from how to make hippo chili to how to roast a elephant in the ground. I was like what heck who comes up with that stuff. Lol it recipes for making cabbage pudding and all kinds stuff. Of course she never used that cook book. But she had it. She had hundreds of cook books. She best known for her baking. She was well known around here ppl paid hundreds of dollars just get her cakes and such. They weren’t very decorative they were just really good and everyone loved she baked and brought food for things.

A lot of people don’t realize that DVDs come in different formats. The US uses the NTSC format and most of Europe and Asia uses PAL. But, since I love foreign films, I was able to purchase a multi format DVD player. Maybe you can find one, too. I love figs! So sweet and juicy off the tree and Fig Newtons have always been a favorite of mine since I was a kid! Since turning vegan, I buy Fig Newman’s since they’re organic and don’t contain any animal product. (A company started by American actor Paul Newman.)

Living in Australia, I miss it and have tried to cook some things, but the hardest part is sourcing the right ingredients.
All the salt settles near the bottom. Try turning the bag upside down before opening OR AFTER OPENING, DUMP INTO BOWL AND TAP THE BAG TO GET ALL THE SALT AND CARMEL PIECES!😁

Cracker Jacks and Fritos have been around a looooong time. So many better things have come out since they were introduced. For this reason, I’m not wild about either of these snacks. Cracker Jacks used to have little toys or bobbles inside, but those are now considered choking hazards. When I was a kid, as soon as you opened the box, you went fishing for the prize. I think today the box still contains a prize…kid tattoos. As for corn chips, I always reach for Doritos.

BBQ sauce a lot of times is usually added either to chicken or pork while on the grill or stove but most times here at a lot of get togethers here in West TX it's just set as a condiment if you want have some on the side. Y'all definitely need to try the Frito Pie recipe on the back of the bag of Frito's.

I haven’t had Cracker Jack since I was a kid. Fiddle Faddle was another popcorn & nut brand. They were toffee covered instead of caramel. My mother liked those (other similar products are poppycock & Crunch ‘n Munch)
Fig newtons are a favorite cookie. There are other newton cookies a well. Apple newtons, blueberry newtons & strawberry newtons

I don't see it mentioned yet, but on the BBQ Sauce, that's maybe a "little hot" directly from the bottle. It can be used as a marinade instead and "the heat" most likely would settle down some. For instance, with ground pork or ground beef, you could make your own "Sloppy Joes", some would add a dab to scrambled eggs, or a little in a mac and cheese dish would be good too. From Google, "A small amount of brown sugar or honey can tone down a spicy sauce when combined with a bit of vinegar or lemon or lime juice." Both of you will be able to enjoy the BBQ sauce. Hope this helps.
