Shoutout to the bass player for pretty much repeating the same bar for a quarter of an hour
But what a great bass line, oh boy!
That must take a lot of patience
The art of repeating , bassplayers job.
Wow, I been listening to this song since the 70's always humm that bass line when I wasn't reciting the Arabic and you're right it's the same
That was Greg Brown I played with him a lot a few years before he passed away. You would have loved Greg.
Listen to his Hajj (The Journey) with headphones.

Beautiful Universal beyond the borders of this lonely planet Earth.
Alalhamdoulilahi !il y a 30 an que je l'ai connu mashaallah les vibrations spirituelles reste les mêmes.
I discovered this a really incredible Nelson Mandela tribute mix by my favorite DJ/tastemaker Mr. Gilles Peterson. This song has meant so much for me over the last couple weeks, as a prayer, as an awakening of my primitive raw instincts and emotions, as a cry begging for forgiveness and redemption. I literally collapsed into my yoga mat (childs pose) after a particularly long day at work last week and let myself tear up a little while listening to it.
Je ne suis pas étonnée qu'elle produise de tels effets sur vous, cette "chanson" n'en est pas vraiment une c'est une sourate du Coran.

:-)
is someone know the tab of the bass line?
Jean, here is the bassline, in standard tuning, where 'E6' = E string, fret 6, OK? The line has 11 notes as follows: E6, A8, D8, G5, G6, G8, G6, G5, D8, A8, E6. At time code 01:43, the same sequence moves down and repeats, starting at E1, so you get E1, A3, D3, and so on. I hope this is helpful. The 'fast bit' can be tricky to finger but gets easier with practice. Good luck!

in my religion Quran should not interpreted that way "instruments" because it's the words of God, if you want to read and listen to quran the only way to make it beautiful is by human voice only, if you want to listen to an angel voice write "al ifassi" on youtube.
i'm not an extremist, i love music and smart new ideas, but respect for the words of god.
this is music, intrinsically. your comments dont have a real relevance in this song. If you want to pray to your god, go an pray and do what you want. This is music and a genuinely expression of a greatness musician. For me this is beautiful, so...what can do your god with that? welcome to XXI century my friend ;)
hhh you know! i'm not muslim anymore!
but we have to respect their religion, i mean all religions
why do we use quran? is that a lack of creativity or we can't right some poems or ...
think twice my Friend
Oh, so for you this song is disrespectful. OK ;)
yes, hope you understand what he say...
It is very sad that you cannot see beyond the confines of your own tradition and concepts to understand that most devoted musicians are essentially praying out loud. Their prayers are expressed in a language that transcends cultural, temporal, historical and other biased concepts of God and goes straight to the core of what worship actually entails, the surrender of the soul. Believe me, the composer and musicians here are very devout people. Respecting a religion has some relevance, but only to the intent of the religion, not the self-serving interpretations of the people that have tailored the confinements of the religion to their own oppressive ends. These are the people that are in the way of our unity as humans. Musicians supply that path.
Another African brother who thinks he is Lebanese.
Who's confusing music with the personal practice of his religion. I think this is terrible crap in fact, musically.
No clown he is a brother who is a Muslim just like you probably think you are white American worshiping a white Jesus.
another stupid person who thinks religion or spirituality is related to a certain race
