- Head waters of the Yellowstone River
Episode 2
Finding the upper head waters of the Yellowstone River in Wyoming on horseback. This journey will take us through the Bridger Teton & Shoshone Wildernesses. Up and over Deer Creek Pass down into the Thoroughfare Drainage to the Yellowstone River and Bridger Lake. Then up the river to the head waters where water starts on the mighty Yellowstone River. Then we will travel across the Buffalo Plateau and down Marston Pass to the South Fork of the Shoshone River, and travel out along the Canyons of the Shoshone River that Buffalo Bill help build in the 1880s
This will be a 3 episode video to show the massive journey it took to reach the head waters of the Yellowstone River where water starts and journey back. I tried to make a short version video of this journey but could not. It was just too wild, too big, and too grand of a landscape. So please watch all three episodes and enjoy this trip or Journey, to find the head waters of the Yellowstone River as we did.
We traveled by horseback over 3 mountain passes, three water sheds like the Yellowstone River that lead to the Missouri River. Head waters of the Snake River to the Columbia River and the Pacific Ocean. Also the Shoshone River that continues down to the Yellowstone and Missouri Rivers. We traveled by horseback 126 miles in some of the wildest county in the lower 48 starts. Enjoy our journey on the biggest screen you have.
Please comment and share your feedback with us. We would love to hear from you.
Be sure to like and share if you enjoyed this video. and above all thanks for tuning in. More wilderness horseback trips to come.
Stay curious and explore
Special thanks to Lee, Hunter and Alex of Livingstone outfitters in Cody Wyoming for there help in making this trip happen (307)899-3057

I rarely watch all of longer videos. But, I watch every minute of yours. Great camera and editing skills. “Pilgrim, can you skin grizz”? Sure glad that critter didn’t cause you trouble. “When I get to heaven, tie me to a tree; or I’ll begin to wander and soon you know where I will be.” Sure appreciate you sharing this great adventure. Wow!

I'm in awe about how the horses come when called.
that is great it helps to have some grain waiting for them
I was working as a farrier , at Rosevelt camp back in the mid 70’s . Never got to see more than a small area around Hell Roaring Creek . I’ve enjoyed watching all you videos . This makes me want to come and see more ! Truly a spectacular place on earth .

I love the timeless quality of your wilderness rides. The trails you take through magnificent landscapes and the mix of video & photography make compelling viewing. I think I have now caught up with your back catalogue after finding the first Yellowstone headwaters video and have enjoyed everyone. Thank you for sharing your adventures. I look forward to the next one. Dusty trails to you all from over the pond.

I'm amazed at how stable the horses are. I suppose some of the excitement is edited out but those trails get really rough and the thunder and all. Beautiful video. What a country!
Gopro 11 is very stable camera thanks for your comments
Wanderin star good choice I was born like that myself
glad you liked it
Wonderful scenery, very well filmed and communicated
thanks more to come
Absolutely spectacular country, thanks for sharing with all of us. May I ask what device you or your party used to record mileage? Maps vs recorded mileage seem to vary greatly
We use Gaia GPS on phones going up and down is elevation GPS helps
I also use Gaia, it seems to me that recorded mileage is always longer than what the maps say
Hey when is the 3rd one coming out. I enjoy your videos. I don't mind longer videos love seeing the country. Pictures are nice but the video is best. Cheers
I just finished the 3rd episode come out in few days
Very nice series. Thank you for NO background music. The sounds of outside are plenty. Well done.
thanks glad you enjoyed
You guys and gals do a wonderful job showing us the beautiful mountains, streams and river's on this trek to the headwaters of the Yellowstone River.
Great!
Good to hear
Thank you for these videos! I traveled that same trail in 1978, going the opposite direction. The first time I shod a horse was at that big campsite where the Thorofare meets the Yellowstone, someone had packed in an anvil and left it there. Wonderful memories! Nothing like a thunderstorm up high. Loved watching you folks throw your hitches, well done on the video production as well!
thanks for your comments we should talk someday
@@cowdogflicks Hello, I enjoy talking about my adventures, once I get started it might be hard to shut me up!

good to hear
Beautiful video 📸. Gorgeous scenery!!¡! Safe travels!!!!
thanks
WOW, I am impressed with the size of the Yellowstone river, where it begins.
Who would think that small Creek Looking River would end up being as big as the Yellowstone River we all see on videos and in pictures!!!!
Thank You, for sharing your ride with us!!!!
glad you enjoyed it watch for Episode 3
@@cowdogflicks We will!!!
I thought I knew something about the Yellowstone. I thought it began where the river comes out of the lake at fishing bridge. I didn't know it was also on the south side of the lake too! Now I have a new adventure to go find!
sounds good
Wondering about time of year you took this wonderful journey? Weather appeared to be very nice in spite of evening rains…
This was the last of Aug Nice weather watch for episode 3 its a good one
Fantastic video - I had to pull out my maps and try to follow along with you. I spent several years packing in and out of Western Montana/Northern Colorado. Great series!!
Glad you enjoyed it! it would be great to cross our paths
@@cowdogflicks Sadly we are living the 'city life' right now and down to 1 horse. But we're hoping to get another and spend more time in the backcountry one day. My husband grew up in the Cascade Mountains on horseback so it's something we both enjoy and miss!!!
Pretty awesome, peaceful, wonderful territory.
thanks
Brought back memories…… I shut my eyes and listened Riding the trails Thanks Bless you all
glad you enjoyed
@@cowdogflicks 🤠👋
How much of your trip was in the national park itself ?
it was all in a wilderness area not the Park
I like this incredible video. I feel like I was there. Thank you for sharing that spectacular views. I had one experience like this many years ago in the Absaroka mountains next to Cody Wy.I would like to repeat that unforgettable adventure.
glad you enjoyed it
The Wild West. Beautiful. Wish I could see it all for myself. Wish I could live there far away from people without a care or worry about anything. Just BEING in it all, at peace, blissful. What a dream. Maybe in the ages to come when the Lord returns. 🥰
glad you enjoyed it i did
I've lived In CO and WY all my life. I LOVE the west. Worked at Old Faithful Inn the bicentennial year of 1976. The Rockies are INCREDIBLE and your ride through them here was absolutely stunning. Well done sir! Thanks for taking us along.
Glad you enjoyed it was fun
Another great video. Do you hobble the horses and mules of a night or just tether them?
Both!
Looking forward to the next episode, thanks
coming soon
Are those game trails you followed or horse trails from past trips
sometimes both
@@cowdogflicks I have watched almost all of videos, I think you stated you were traveling on the trails made by the Indian,s. Was that correct. Can you still see the wagon trails
LOVE your videos!!! Just wondering, if the horses and mules work all day and graze all night, when do they sleep?
at nite short times
What a blessing Love the scenery to build a Homestead is all that comes to mind i’m have to say the young lady that was with you guys what a blessing she is love to see the strength that she has and talents in being the woman God made her to be God bless her
thanks for watching Alax has been doing this cense she was 12
Was so surprised at the lack of wildlife you came across, or did you just not show it? Nevertheless the views the sounds of birds, water, and hoof beats was fantastic. Love this series!
glad you enjoyed more to come this winter
Amazing journey. Thanks for sharing it. How long have the worn paths you have followed, been there along the way ?
glad you enjoyed some of those trails Buffalo Bill made
Simply amazing, I enjoyed it a lot! BTW, can you describe, please, why you don't free up horses as soon as you get to the camp, to give them more time to feed up? It looks like, you were doing it when it gets dark, and through the night. Would they be roaming too far from you during the day light, or something else matters? Thanks!
No horses know a habit and they want it that way it also gives them time to cool down
Wow! What an epic adventure! How long did it take to unpack/ pack the horses everyday?
about 30 min to unmake and 1 hour to pack glad you enjoyed it
What a great experience! So absolutely amazing Country! Very special
Yes it was!
That was another really good one! Thank you so much for putting these together and showing us.
thanks for comment
Beautiful scenery, great horses, so relaxing watching this. Happy trails from the UK.
Glad you enjoyed it watch episode 2 you will enjoy that to
Very cool video format, feels almost oldschool like. It makes it surprisingly easy to follow along.

Purty country! I’m a light sleeper so not sure how much sleep I would get with those bells ringing all night!😊
when they are ringing you know the horse are close i sleep better then
It doesn't get any better than that
you are right
What month did this take place?
August 3rd week
Absolutely amazing im so jealous
thanks
Don't bears come along with them deers yow 😅
we did not see any bears we made to much noice
Very appreciative of a video of the back-country without background music so you can hear the birds and horse's shoes on the rocks and sound of the streams and the quietness of the wilderness. Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it
Yes!! ❤❤
Greetings from the BIG SKY. Nice camps you have.
Thanks
What are the 2 buckets of water on the Fire every night for dishes or warm water to clean up with wash your face and hands
Dishes and wash up
Your next trip should be to California to show them in Hollywood how to run a camera. Thanks for the video.
That would be cool! thanks for your comment

thanks for your comment
wow!! just great!.....🤠💪
glad you liked
THANK YOU VERY MUCH For a lovely video - waiting for your next one 🙏
its coming soon
Que pasa con los subtitulos porque no estan disponibles como el primer capitulo.
Thank you for sharing your amazing journey with us! I can recall the ancient feeling of the Yellowstone Park and that was the area the tourists visit. The one thing I noticed about this series is the lack of wildlife. Do you think it's because of the wildfires or because they can hear the mule trains long before you would see any? Thank you so much for posting ;) rides of a lifetime for sure!
I am glad you enjoyed it I think they can hear us coming a long ways off
Mut buenos videos saludos desde SLP. MÉXICO
Wonderful video, magnificent scenery. Appears the only one doing any real work was the young lady, from leading the pack animals to cooking and setting up camp. The men seem to just sit around doing nothing.
You are right! she would not let us help cook and she wore a gun to
I'm curious. How did the mule, one of you guys was riding, compare to the horses the others rode? Ride comfort? Sure footed on those rocks? and seemed to keep the most energy through the day. Awesome channel by the way!
That rider is a old time mule man all his life he would rather be on a mule than a horse
I'm home sick for this place. I'm going back one day.
You should! and have fun
Mmm ❤ ' the sound !
Packing salt to the cattle up in the Dragoon Mts of AZ. Good days ' Good memories.
Thanks for ghe video
I am glad you enjoyed it
thanks for sharing so beautiful
thanks
Man oh man oh man this is awesome, you go from the falls to the headwaters and look at the wilderness it's absolutely gorgeous back there just absolutely gorgeous and that's the way to do it horseback always horseback
Glad you enjoyed it thanks a bunch

My step Mother's husband and16 year old son both drown in the Yellowstone river they found their horses three days later
sorry to here that the river was slow in Sept
They’re horses and mules are well taken care of…nice looking animals and well trained.
Love watching you all. Fantastic ❤
Thanks so much
Great song from paint your wagon,s look like a Bueatiful ride thanks for taking us a long good sir !!!
glad you enjoyed it
Nothing taste as good as food cooked over an open campfire.
yes it does
But where is it now? Did I miss a Picture of the Source?
it gets so small that its just the valley area where it comes from
I would like even longer videos. Not sure how you cut out any of it. It must be hard to edit. Love the scenery excellent footage. What camera do you use? And what do you mount it on etc? What do they have for grizzly bear protection? Cheers
we uses mostly gopros did not see one grizz
Thank you for Beautiful country 🌏🦬👣👍❤💯Very nice ...
glad you enjoyed them more to come
That cliff hanging trail near the end of this episode is a bit sketchy. I don't like following so close. Haven't see much wildlife, did you ?
Episode 3 down the Shoshone river dont miss its coming soon
Thanks for the video. Great pictures of the Thorofare and Younts Peak. I'm a history nut, so I am a fan of the pioneers like Harry Yount. His story would make a good movie. Cooked a steak below the Pinnacles with my grandson and sat there and wondered what was on the other side. Now I know.
Glad you enjoyed it! I did get a comment from Harry Younts great great grandson He had never seen the peak the Pinnacles are a great place to
Love the videos.
thanks
@@cowdogflicks absolutely. I hope there will be more to come.
The guide riding up front must be a wrangler too, I guess. And the girl can cook AND shoot. Or y'all rely on bear spray if the grizzlies get mad?
it was all good we all helped
Thank you for this beautiful trip it so good.. all of it,, hunting and fishing all my life is what I've done just being out there is what its all about ,thank the Good Lord for making it for us all, take care be safe and God Bless you all,

Didn't the Yellowstone River flood over and shut down the park this past summer in 2022

Did you see wildlife (Elk Deer sheep, bears ) I heard some geese in doom of the footage .Thank for the Adventure!
