Was he really planning to leave the throne to Yongji? He was an Ula Nara prince with no clan power... It was easy for him to blame his education in order to dismiss the legitimate heir. I think Yongji was too similar to Ruyi, soft hearted and sensitive. The emperor took that as a sign of weakness to rule the empire. In here Yongji acted so solemn and royal... not like his brothers.
Yes, yongji don't have the qualities to be a ruler but there is nothing wrong with his character. Rather then being soft hearted and sensitive, I think he's actually very honest and empathetic towards others.
I don’t think either series shows the real story, but Ruyi’s Royal Love is a lot more true to historical traditions and customs. We can’t know for sure what exactly happened to the Step Empress in real life. Records don’t show the full truth after all, just that she lost favor after she cut her hair and thus offended the Emperor.
Yanxi palace is unrealistic compared to ruyi and zhen huan. The mc has too much plot armor. Kinda felt cringe but its just my own personal opinion. I prefer ruyi and zhen huan story. Its more realistic and shows how strong they are enduring the selfish and arrogant emperor with their own way.
Neither is more true. Both are simply fiction based on historical figures. The schemes, the plots are from the imagination of the authors. Why people assume only one (Ling or Nara) could be good and the other had to be bad is beyond me. There’s a reasonable chance that neither was evil. People let dramas with no real basis manipulate them so easily.
