My wife and I go to the village. We were there in person when Matt explained what happened. The relationship was flagged for “frequency & familiarity” with the woman that was inappropriate. There was also “course joking” as well. The elders pulled no punches and did exactly what the scripture teaches. Matt stepped up and did a really tough thing coming clean and in front of his family and wife no less. We have to be really careful not letting the media twist what it wants, as we know the world isn’t fond of Christians and is always waiting to point the fingers at us. ❤️🙏🏻

What does "course joking" mean? I think clarity should be brought to the congregation on that. Doesn't the Bible teach not to let any crude joking come out of your mouth? (Ephesians 5:4) Also, that is being addressed to God's people in general, but aren't pastors held to a higher regard? This seems like a joke, a really, really bad joke. If they had him undergo a neurological test and then brought him back that quickly something is very off.

@@MeganGantt22- biblically, it means sexual or innuendo jokes that twist the meaning of words. It is of a level that is inappropriate in such a way that shows the heart being in an unhealthy state. Most of the time, we can joke with people or be friendly with people and it won’t come across as flirty or playfulness. I suspect that comments referencing course jesting and familiar/frequent communication as crossing from just a friend that you respect into the realm of drawing closely. I feel completely comfortable saying hello to people in my community and having a friendly communication with them. Even enjoying our sense of humor. I feel safe out and about in public settings. But I specifically don’t text people outside of my marriage to talk or build relationship. I can text them about schedules or planning stuff. Even wish them a happy birthday but I don’t spend frequent text chains with someone one on one outside of my marriage. That is a healthy boundary that prevents inappropriate intimacy.
I think your questions about what is being left unsaid are correct. Why couldn’t he have been joking like this in a group text with his wife and her husband. That would have been fine. Why were they texting one on one.

I think the mistake some people are making is they're viewing the elder's request for him to step down temporarily as a "punishment"--so therefore he must have done something really sinful. No, all they're doing is being very vigilant to protect his heart and his reputation before a situation goes beyond inappropriate/dangerous to outright sinful.

      @MeganGantt22 Год назад

Matt Chandler admits he did something wrong, not due to conviction but due to being caught. So your logic for following him is because he admitted to be in some way shape or form guilty? Furthermore, when someone truly repents do you believe they will deflect their own sin onto others? He makes a point to say he hopes that they, "the church", won't have their shortcomings made public....hmmmm. Deflecting shows a lack of repentance rather than accepting he made a mistake. He also admits there may have been coarse jesting. Do you believe when the apostle Paul laid out the standard for a man to become an elder in a church that coarse jesting with anyone would have been allowed? How about coarse jesting, through familiarity with a woman, (privately on a social app) that is not his wife. We seriously lost our standards here in America and unfortunately other places too, as to who should be shepherding the sheep. Or maybe, we ignored what the Bible warned of when Matthew references wolves in sheep's clothing. Or how about the book of Jude when it discusses the great apostasy? It says they will feast among you...meaning you will think they are of God and welcome them. This is why judging people by their works or fruits is so important. He walks around proudly, teaching things like white guilt due to his "invisible bag of privilege", he messages women in secret that aren't his wife, and he supports people like Jen Wilkin who compare her menstrual cycle to the crucifixion of Christ and happens to be the director of men's and women's Bible studies in their church. Be careful who you follow so you are not led astray.

I have heard a lot about this and know that there is so much more to this story. But if there was any type of deception or other items that the elders saw, I believe they would not be re-instating him so soon if at all.
Pastures have a very hard job, let alone they have to have tough conversations with folks in the church body. I don't want to gossip about this, and really we all have are own house to worry about. So if you don't know the full truth, best to not say anything, but to pray for those involved.

The sin is not the issue. We all sin. The handling of the sin is the issue. Nick, you are spot on with your approach. Our church is faced with a similar situation and there is a "sweep it under the rug" approach that seems to say the less the body knows, the better. If you are aware of the sin and your effort is totally toward the "winning of your brother" there is no judgment on his sin. Fruit and the restoration are what need to be focused on and if you are not allowed to know the problem it is likely that the ones who hide it are focused on it, (the sin), not the healing. What is bound on earth will be bound in Heaven and you cannot bind what you do not know. Keep up the good work. Peace and Love my brother

Thank you so much for your thoroughness and the gentle delivery of what you shared.
I wonder if we have just become so callous in our convictions. It’s almost as if when we do something or see someone doing something contrary to what God expects of us as believers or those in an elder position, we doubt that what they did warrants a consequence unless it crosses a boundary that is sexual or romantic.
I wonder if it is possible that this man felt a conviction and remorse for exactly what he has shared happened and rather than accept that, we find it difficult to believe that someone would step down because of something that seems so trivial.
I wish others would evaluate their own actions/ thoughts and step a way for a bit to strengthen their relationship with God and family before their sin becomes sexual or physical. Myself included. Sadly, many will wait until that line has been crossed before stepping down or aside in ministry.
This pastor knew that having private conversations with someone other than his wife was not pleasing to the Lord. For many there must be more to the story. Maybe because for many of us his explanation is just an everyday occurrence in the days in which we live and we see nothing really wrong with it.
My prayers are for Pastor Matt and Village Church to use this to bring glory to the Lord.

You keep pausing the video and questioning things. At one point about his being so emotional. If a man is truly in tuned and walking with God, the smallest of sins that causes a man's ministry to be halted is going to be extremely heart breaking to him and those under his ministry. It would lead to a broken and contrite heart which will be emotional, no matter what it is. I would be careful not to assume and most likely read into it what's not there. His return did not happen because Matt was in control of when he'd return. A group of elders was on watch and I'm sure much prayer and godly discussions took place and God was at work. Again, we need to be careful on causing any negative gossip. You know that's what Satan wants to do.

This whole situtaion is Extremely wierd. Elders should not be asked to step down over some momentary lapse of judgement. They should be removed for grievous sin.
They treated the situation as serious enough that character was deeply in question, but didn't reveal the details of why.
If the standard to remove someone from preaching was an UNINTENTIONAL act of being in the flesh for a moment, every elder would have to step down.
I would not be the slightest bit satisfied if I attended that church and received such insanely vague explanations of the situtation that caused his temporary removal.

It's still very vague. Based on what was previously stated I'm assuming the messages were edging on the line of flirtatiousness unbecoming of a married pastor. The woman has most likely kept silent to protect her reputation/name. The church most likely asked she not speak of it. No one outside of those in the church knows her name. I wonder if she still goes there? This got alot of publicity. I think Matt is very embarrassed. He doesn't want to be seen in the same vein as other pastors who preach one way but get caught in salacious predicaments (John Gray, Eddie Long). This is why so many in the world are repelled by Christianity-the hypocrisy. It's a bad look.

But among you there must not be even a HINT of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people.
... but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.
The elders arrested that fall somewhere in that slide towards death, probably as Matt was in the process of being dragged away - assuming that what was made public wasn't soiled by any half truths.
When I first came across this story, I only had Todd Bentley's public restoration to go by as a previous example: the bar was set as low as could be because Bentley isn't even of God. So by comparison, Matt's situation was a model of perfection as to how something like this should be handled.
I've since recently seen a sermon by Matt that is steeped in wokeism and do think there are deeper issues that need to be addressed. Perhaps God in His goodness will do just that.

What a cowardly video to post. This is just gossip fodder, full stop. You want to know how most gossip starts? With phrases like “I’m not saying, I’m
Just saying” (innuendo) and “who am i to say” (false humility), or “ I don’t run to church and I’m not a pastor and I’m not an elder” followed by intention to use a situation for one’s own benefit. Shameful.
The elders and Matt DID give detail on what happened: inappropriate dm’s that included joking about alcohol in a way that a pastor or elder should not.
Major suggestion by NJ is the should have waited until the beginning of the year. He came back on November 28th, so just to be clear the best way to have handled this would have Ben to wait an additional 31 days. Why?
Also “if you’re going to handle things behind closed doors without cameras, then you need to at least provide more detail.” What would more detail look like in this case? Would it be helpful for church members to see the actual DM’s? literally airing personal dirty, laundry and embarrassing everyone involved, including family even more? Absurd.
I don’t attend The Village and don’t know Matt personally, but it looks like he, his family, and the elders of the church handled this perfectly.
If this video is any indication of the kind of content this creator post , here’s an opinion…. Run for the hills.

  • @RunSamRun94
    @RunSamRun94 Год назад

I have really enjoyed all of your videos except this one. I don't understand the point of this video. All I keep hearing from most everyone is what did he do. Why do we have to know, especially if we don't attend that church? We aren't entitled to know just because the circumstances are vague. It's between Matt and God first and foremost, not us.
Every person on this planet, everyone, is a sinner. That includes people that are held to a higher standard by us, such as a pastor. Satan comes hard at Christians every single day hoping we'll turn our backs on God. Can you imagine how much harder he goes after a man of God whose life is dedicated to bringing people to Christ?
The questioning of how short his time away was a decision made by the elders and, honestly, shouldn't be questioned. There is no timetable in the Bible on how long a pastor should be away based on his sin. Some of us may not agree that it was long enough but, again, we don't go to that church, we don't know the details and we aren't an elder. We don't know what all he had to do to humble himself but, obviously, the elders felt that he had done what was asked of him and they allowed him to come back based on their own faith, judgment and forgiveness. I don't think that should be questioned by any of us. The elders have a huge responsibility to the health of a church. I truly believe the elders wouldn't allow him to return if there was any doubt he could continue to represent the church as a humbled and repentant man of God.
The amount of judgment towards Matt by commenters is disheartening. We all know as Christians that we are not to judge. Only God can do that and Matt, like all of us, will stand before God and account for all of his sins one day. I feel as a Christian that we need to continually look at our own life and make sure our walk with God, not others, is pleasing to Him.

What an awful excuse that this was related to his brain cancer oh my gosh, give me a break it’s not related that is such a huge excuse which shows you where he’s at he’s guilty of something the same thing happened to my pastor, and it was far worse than what Was told to us the congregation I had to figure it out through talking to several pastoral staff, and even then that was not easy because they don’t want to tell us, but the truth is it’s worse or they would never have been an investigation and he did something unguarded and unwise OK that’s bad so there was some flirting going on that’s what it’s telling me because what’s the definition of sexual that they had sex OK so they didn’t have sex so it’s not sexual? that’s not a great definition, Sexual is also romantic and flirting, so there is probably some flirty, romantic things going on that was inappropriate, and that is emotional cheating, which is not living above approach, and he should have stepped down for a longer time and shown more fruits of repentance which these pastors don’t do. My pastor didn’t do as well. He got right back up after 3 months as well and actually our board secretly put him on leave without telling the church, church and later told us with no apology, no transparency, That’s why I’m no longer there. These pastors, including Matt just love to tell the people how to live their life in the Lord and yet they are not living above reproach, so don’t listen to these people. They are mirror men who have fallen, and they need to no longer be the senior pastor or a pastor, they need to sit down for years. We don’t need to know their conversations because it doesn’t matter. I think they handled it perfectly. They didn’t even have to do that. I believe they saw the potential for the enemy to creep in and Matt aknowledged that he was unguarded and actually didn’t understand how he allowed himself to be even in that position. His emotions expressed even in this video, obviously his sincerity to the intimacy with God, and how it affects the people. No doubt he has questioned his call because of the weight of his call.
