    You know your stuff. I’ve been following your advice for a little over a year and I must say that at 74 years of age, I receive compliments (I still work where I meet scores of people daily) about how nice my skin is. It was NOT so nice last year. Your advice and product recommendations and application procedures are the reason. Thank you.

    My dermatologist explained how there is no cure for rosacea, they don't know why or how it suddenly occurs and to know and understand your triggers. She prescribed me Tretinoin 0.25 and sunscreen. Since 2017 I've noticed a significant improvement in my overall skin health and have pin pointed two major triggers for my rosacea flare ups. Spicy foods and red wines! I'm not giving either one up, but I definitely make plans the day I decide that I'm gonna indulge in either one 😂

      I totally agree. Retinol works FAST. It is usually noted that it takes 4-6 weeks to get over the adjustment period and 6 months to a year to notice the effects. My purge was much quicker, and the benefits were almost immediate.
      I was able to switch from .05 to .1 within three months. Once in a while I need to take a day or two off, but my skin is pretty good at communicating that.
      I have found an a.m. routine of Naturim vitamin C and Naturium niacinimide pair well with the p.m. routine of Tretinoin. Have had issues of other vitamine c products causing issues.

    I’m a teen and recently got prescribed a retinoid from my dermatologist. So obviously I didn’t get it for anti aging. I definitely am happy with how my skin looks. The fact it helped my acne tremendously and post acne marks is awesome. I’m glad I was introduced to retinoids, it’s the only thing that has worked for my acne so for that, I’m grateful. And thank you doctor dray for all your information. You have helped me learn about all this before I actually went to go see a dermatologist for my acne :)

    My skin tolerates retinol well and I have seen beneficial effects from it like smoother skin and fewer lines. However, not everybody is so lucky. My husband cannot tolerate any form of it, it leads to dry irritated skin that actually has the appearance of increased lines. I recommended that he use my eye cream when he was looking for one and I was so confused when his eyes actually looked worse after using it.
    Btw, I am Asian but he has Irish skin that burns very easily and is probably quite sensitive, I wonder if that is a factor and the ability to tolerate retinol

      I have used tretinoin, with increasing strengths, for seven years with very little irritation, but very little benefit, either. I’ve also had laser treatments, with loads of crusting, but when the crusts finally healed, there was no improvement. I’ve been through two red light masks, with only a little improvement, and I’ve also tried Juvederm and Radiesse-which I mostly absorbed. I’d like a face lift, but where I live, that’s $100,000! That’s WITHOUT lifting the neck to the eyes😱

      Has he tried: putting a layer of moisturizer on first with maybe a petroleum, letting it dry before putting on his retinol? Also he could do short term contact therapy (: do those initial steps I mentioned, but leaving it on for 5 minutes before washing it off? I only ever had issue with retinol using it every single day, letting it get into skin folds, and using it after clay masks. Now when I use it, I just get extended breakouts which are frustrating

He says it's unclear wether retinoids long term are good or bad for skin, since they reduce chaperone mediated autophagy, skin thinks it's a time of abudance, what might actually long term be negative. Also some others say it's not completely clear yet what the long term impact is of retinoids because it induces epigenome modifications and inhibits telomerase.

I have dry skin and the ROC Retinol Correxion Line Smoothing Max Hydration cream has hyaluronic acid. Also, their eye cream says it is good for dark circles. @AllyKit 11 месяцев назад +5

      I used a single RoC product for about a year in my 30s and it made a huge difference in my skin. (Years later I am on Tretinoin) It was the RoC Retinol Antiaging Night moisturizer in the tube. That’s all. My skin cleared up, looked smoother and brighter. I was using no other products and was completely uneducated about skin care at the time. I think Dr Dray prefers Neutrogena because they have some products that have no added fragrance. Roc scent didn’t bother me even though i have sensitive skin. Also Neutrogena has more R&D behind them but I thought my Roc cream did a great job and even the esthetician noticed the difference when I went for a facial.

    Dr Dray, can you do a video about the patented Bakuchiol Sytenol A and why it's important to purchase legitimate scientific backed versions as theres sellers that are selling products labelled "Bakuchiol" which either don't contain any or worse contain potential contaminents and photosensitisers.

    • @db-gb5xi

      Dr Dray does have a video on bakuchiol and so do some other derms. There are also channels that covered the whole Herbivore fake bakuchiol issue.

    • @db-gb5xi
      @db-gb5xi 11 месяцев назад +6

      Some people can apply it directly to dry, clean skin with no problems but some people do better with moisturizer as a buffer to lessen irritation.

    Could you please elaborate on the bit at 4:48 ? I know you say here that retinol won’t age us more rapidly, but as a biochemistry student everything I know (which is limited when it comes to specifics about skin cells) points me toward the fact that increased cell turnover will age you faster. While I trust that you are telling the truth here, I can’t seem to wrap my head around that idea. The one thing that worries me about getting started on retinols is the “aging” of my DNA being sped up. My worry is that the telomeres on the ends of my DNA will become shorter even faster than they normally would when applying a retinol, thus aging me faster than normal over an extended period of time. I have tried doing my due diligence to learn more about the matter, but can’t seem to find anything pertaining to that idea.

    I have been on tretinoin for years and I am now on a mixture of retinaldehyde with azeliac acid and my skin can Not handle it. I am to the point where I am just going with retinaldehyde at this point. I read a study that retinaldehyde is equally as effective as tretinoin just with less side effects as you get with tretinoin. Can you please talk about this? Thank you

    • @empressm6
      @empressm6 11 месяцев назад +2

      Discontinue now! Retinol has never been tested in pregnancy & is possibly teratogenic. Switch to azelaic acid or bakuchiol. Should you choose to breastfeed, dont resume retinol until your breastfeeding journey has ended.

    • @voicedbird
      @voicedbird 10 месяцев назад +4

      Since there was no way of knowing how long it would take to get pregnant, when I was TTC I still used retinol during the "baby dancing" phase and would only stop using it during the "two week wait" phase. When pregnancy tests were negative I would just resume use of my retinol until the next cycle. Since it took me a long time to get pregnant I'm glad I didn't stop until I needed to, but you should also check with your doctor.

      @@SamanthaHoe-v8q I have a pretty minimal routine, but keep in mind I’m very dry and live in a super cold and harsh winter climate. So this might not be right for anyone else. But in the evening I use oil cleanser, then a mild foaming cleanser, then a retinol serum and lastly a rich moisturizer. I seal it all in with vaseline. In the morning I just apply azelaic acid suspension, without washing my face, and then moisturizer on top (also sunscreen, but there’s virtually no daylight where I am right now so it’s pretty low spf). No frills, it works great and I haven’t had any irritation at all 😊

      I've been using The Ordinary's granactive retinoid (I think it's called the retinoid emulsion now). Like a cousin to retinol. It doesn't have a ton of studies on it but it was the first ever retinoid I used on my face and it worked to clear my acne without any irritation, in the same way a retinol would work. It's more of a creamy serum so it's easy to put all over my neck and chest. I've been doing it 3x a week for 2 weeks and no irritation, just some slight purging (but I am acne prone).

      Keep using adapalene or switch to Tretinoin. There's no point in switching to less potent forms like retinol
