Every Sports caster has a moment or few where they say something that seems dumb especially in hindsight. Even the Iguodala one doesn’t seem bad to me because he was still a great player on GS then and much less likely to draw enough defensive attention, but more than capable of delivering a game winning bucket. It’s actually a high IQ play from a coaching mindset.

Let's be honest, the First Take is a show build around Stephen A Smith, so the production put the people who they though it was dumber than SAS. That why they hired people with the worst takes like Ryan Hollins, or people you want to shup up like Molly. Why? Because that would make SAS be more smart and reasonable guy. When Max was saying stuff like "I want Iguodala" or "The Brady Cliff theory", ESPN was satisfy, but as times goes by, Max showed that he's a decent commentator and in many occasions SAS shows how he says stupid stuff a lot of times. It's a SAS tv show, you can't put him down. With Max besides SAS, Stephen was not the most reasonable and smartest guy anymore. A lot of sports tv shows are build like that.
True, his takes were all over the place at the start. But in my opinion, I thought they got way better as time went on. He started to be more correct on the things he was saying. meanwhile, SAS was the one saying the dumb stuff.

I'd take Max Kellerman over SAS anyday. SAS is supposed to be some basketball genius but you can tell his understanding of the game is that of a person that only watches highlights. Max IS a boxing genius, he understands the sport better than most actual boxers. It's a disappointment that he never does commentary during a boxing match, I'd prefer to listen to him over the actual commentators we usually get. There's a reason why alot of the guests, besides the basketball players, are always on Max's side of the debate. Not because he's always right but because they vibe with him much better than SAS. Max isn't a genius when it comes to other sports besides boxing, but you can tell his understanding of each sport increased with every passing year he was on the show, but Stephen A has been doing this for MULTIPLE YEARS and it's like his basketball iq lowers every single year. At this point SAS is just an entertainer, I never respect his opinions on basketball.

1:55 max says those teams are good cuz of wins. lebron swept a 60 win atlanta team with 3 all stars but max would say that team isnt on lebrons level at all. same with the teams he named, wins dont mean everything. Also ryan was saying those teams are no comp, compared to the comp lebron faced, which is true. lebron never faced less than 3 hall of famers in one finals series while MJ did in every single one with a better coach than lebron has ever had and a better team. so max did not destroy ryan on that take at all.
