Often I hit my irons long or the flag. So I don’t want less loft. I also don’t particularly like looking down on a iron and knowing it has less loft than what I’m used to.
Rick, I was about to purchase the old MP line of Mizuno irons, when I heard the JPX 921 is about to come out. Love the video, looking really forward to the each individual line of Irons review. I’m hoping to be able to create a blended set that suits my game, even though I think the JPX 921 Tours are not forgiving enough for me.
Placed an order for 919 Forged about 3 weeks ago, paid on the spot as I loved them. Turns out Mizuno had sold out so they upgraded me to these. All specs are with them and will be one of the first in Australia (public) to have them in the bag. So excited!!
Hi Guys!..I don't think you ever did revisit these JPX 921 hot metal irons. Rick you were going to revisit these and tell us who they were suited to...or have you decided otherwise..thank you for all the videos love them ..good honest impartial.. simply the best..
Yeah, sometimes I listen to rick and think to myself that’s he could use some of his own advice, and also that he shouldn’t be so stuck in his ways when picking clubs. But saying that, i’m still not near as good at golfer as him
I was thinking about that, although where would the break point be? If you're going from a 7 iron tour to a 6 iron forged, you have about 8 degrees of loft between clubs, almost too much gap between them. I don't know if he uses a 2 iron anymore, but under the assumption he does, I doubt he'll sacrifice a wedge or iron to fill the gap.
I just bought a set. I got fitted for the hot metal 921s. I hit every iron head in the joint and these clubs were clearly the best I hit. I'm a 14 handicap at 60 years of age. I'm looking forward to playing them. I should have them in about 4 - 6 weeks! Gorgeous clubs. Thanks Rick
Hey Rick I just wanted to thank you for all the progress I've made as a golfer because of you I've been watching a lot of your vids lately and I've noticed so much improvement with my form. Keep up the great work!!
Just got fitted for irons for the first time in 12 years and ended up with the JPX 921 Forged irons, partially due to this video. They felt great and were probably the most consistent irons I hit all day.
Love the fact that Mizuno offers a Gap Wedge as part of the Tour and Forged sets. I wish more manufacturers would do the same. I hit my Gap Wedge mostly on full shots and it fits a specific yardage i find myself at often. I like my Gap Wedge to feel similar to my irons and it gives me confidence I can predict the ball flight.
Gday Rick I just brought a pair of jpx hot metal pros.. I hit 150 balls each with callaways, taylormades Mizunos and Titleists. I have a swing speed of around 125-130 and am about a +8 handicap.. these mizunos were consistently giving me an extra 30 metres and hitting cuts fades stingers or draws. I felt achieving these desiribly and consistently.. So I love them.. Thankyou ever so much for your tutorials.. Love your content watch every video.. im working on getting my handicap down obviously. I feel with your tutorials plus loads of game time and new irons im in with a fighting chance.. Again much thanks
Just bought a set of 921 with a 3 iron as well I hit every Titleist they had and kept going back to these the feel the feed back you pick up from them is amazing. Running a stiff shaft top notch irons .
Renmazuo27 the geese on my local are fine. They tend to walk away. The swans on the other hand, absolute pricks. Especially when his missus is on the nest. I had to leave a ball in plain sight, as he wouldn’t let me near it. He started hissing when I got close, then ran at me. I swiftly moved on!
I purchased the JPX 921 Hot metal on April 29, 2022. I attended a Muzino demo and hit the 7 iron. They were wonderful. The 7 iron felt great, solid and flew so beautiful. This is my fourth set of Muzino irons.
Would LOVE a 919 Tour vs 923 Tour when they come out in a month or so. They look very similar and I’m curious how that copper underlay and updated weighting and hopefully slimmed down blade length compare. Love my 919s but the blade length is just a tiny bit long. A little less offset and more compact head would be amazing
Fed up with waiting for the more in-depth review of the other models. Just been fitted and ordered a combo set - HM long irons and Forged 7 to PW. The feel is superb.
Same here! I tried 919 Hot Metals but hit my 900s better. I think one reason is I have the XP 105 Shafts in them which you can't hardly get anymore, usu only have XP 95.
I have been watching a lot of golf channels but this is one that I have subscribed to.. because you are so real on your reviews and even when you are shooting bad you keep it real.... keep it up man
When fitted, my pro and I built a set that blended hot metal pro in 4-7, and forged 8-P. The forged were bent 1’ strong to blend the lofts between the two. Absolutely beautiful! Highly recommend blending these sorts of clubs for anyone in the 4-22 handicap range.
I had a demo day at a club yesterday with these new Mizuno irons and they were fantastic. I play off 18 and was recommended the forged so fits really nicely into a wide range of abilities it seems. They felt a lot more consistent and nice in the hand than the hot metal/pro so hoping this is the case when they arrive!
I just bought a set of the hot metal irons, I've only been playing for about 5 months now, and I struggled with the used set I bought, I went and got fitted for a set and the hot metal irons where the ones they recommend and I liked the feel of the best. I've shot 2 rounds with them since, and my confidence with them went up dramatically. My scores are still rather high, but again at 41 I've just started playing golf and I'm sure I'll get better in time. I hadn't seen this video yet when I went in and got fitted, now that I have and know your view on them, I feel even more confident having them.
35 and just started playing golf this month... Got 5 rounds Jn this month and im thinking a set of mizunos for xmas is in order... How's your game coming
Will hopefully be looking for new irons next year and I’m thinking a combo set of 7-PW in the Forged and 4-6 in the Hot Metal Pro may be the top contenders!!
Began playing golf for the first time ever this summer, you’ve been the only one I’ve been getting tips from. I use my dads old clubs the acuity gs.1 clubs interested in what you think about those. But I went from hitting well over 140 a round, down to under 100 now. Hit my lowest of 88 last week. Even got my first birdie from watching and putting into practice the tips you give. I am one of you’re biggest fans, and will always support you.
I'm a huge Mizuno fan ,, best thing I ever did in all my years of golf was to be professionally fitted for irons. That was three years ago this Spring, the iron of choice was the Mizuno JPX 900's " Hot Metal ". Beautiful irons from a great company ,, we fitted the irons with UST Mamiya Recoil 95 shafts ,, a perfect fit for me. One thing I will say about what we are looking at in this video ,, if I took a photo of one of my irons and compared it to the newest and latest same model you would notice practically no difference whatsoever. I enjoy all the postings from Rick Shiels Golf but let's be realistic, he is a professional golfer posting HIS opinion on new irons.
They look absolutely sweet , at present I have a set of JPX 900`s and I`m still in love with them and wish I could do them justice. Ah well just keep on trying. Cheers
I purchased some used Mizuno MP H4's about 6 years ago. I have no reason to upgrade but it brings me joy to know that Mizuno is making some of the best clubs out there.
Someone in the Mizuno marketing dept sitting with his head in his hands, boss comes in and asks how did the rick shiels video go? Fine apart from the part where he referenced Taylormade, complained the grips were on wrong on his custom irons, said "chunkie" about 20 times, nearly killed a bird, couldnt hit a fairway with the long iron, said how strong the lofts where on the best sellers despite the fact they went higher, further and straighter. Yeah fine, ill just pack my desk up. 🤣🙄😘
I wonder how they will handle the big loft gap between 6 and 5? I have a (RH) combo set with 919 Tour P-7 and Forged 6-4. My forged is bent 2deg weak. I actually ordered them only one degree weak but there must have been some misunderstanding. The 921 Forged seams to be is one degree stronger than 919 so the gap will be even larger...
I love Mizuno irons!! I currently game the JPX 900 Hot Metals so I would love the try the 921 Hot Metals & Pros. Can’t wait for the in-depth video coming.
Hey rick love the videos I’m fairly new to golf and have only been playing a couple of months but am progressing quite well could you please do a video on the different types of irons as I have no idea the difference between a bladed or forged or any other type of iron
Booked a fitting last week. My 917' s were fitted with Forged 6 to Gap and Hot Metal 4 & 5 The 4 & 5 are really easy to hit and the 4 was so strong that it pushed my 3 rescue out of my bag. Also fully recommend having a matching gap wedge, I mainly use it for full shots and as my preferred club to have left into the green follwing a lay up. From experience I really think that most mid handicap amateurs would be better off with forgiving long irons and a matching gap wedge.
Bought a set of the Mizuno Tour irons 2 weeks ago and for the reason you stated, the longer toe to heel and the unbelievable sweet feel. Best looking set of blades still out there in 2021 in my opinion.
When you flashed back to that video where you let other people test the clubs out and you said ‘a couple of years ago’. Has it been that long seriously?! Where is time going 😫
Those tours are a beauty. I have the 919 tour but couldn’t get them new. They don’t make them anymore. Looks like the 921 tours are mine. Thanks for the video Rick. Can’t wait for the next video on these
I ordered my hot metal pros last week and I am beyond excited. I have been golfing for 15 + years and I have never owned a brand new set. Always had hand me downs, and the fitting went well. Can’t wait for these to come in!
The 5 iron from the rough @9:41 reminded of the day I hit a driver off the deck for my second shot on a par 5. It never got higher than 8 inches off the ground and took the head clean off a bird we call a peewee (Magpie Lark) 😫 about 100 yards away. The shot still went 240 yards and put me 20 yards in front of the green for a good birdie or par chance. But the horror of it really put me off and I bogeyed the hole and played dreadfully the rest of the round. 40 years later and I still get anxious if I see birds on the fairway anywhere within striking distance. I'd love to play the Tour (although I prefer the look of the new TM MB, MC and 770 range) but think the Forged would be the perfect compromise between a blade and the hot metal variants' distance and forgiveness.
I had 15 year old mizuno mx25's, i played off 23 at the time, when i got them i got down to 17 in about 6 months, so forgiving and good distance from old clubs. Moved up to stiff JPX 800 Pros, about 5 years old, distance and forgiveness, and feel are even more perfect. Can miss hit a shot dramatically and line stays where i aimed it, and only lose about 10 yards. Within 2 weeks of owning them i was down 3 shots in handicap to 14. I will never leave mizuno irons now.
All sets are beautiful. I got a set of the 919 Hot Metal Pros almost two years ago and love them. I tried the Forged, Tour and Hot Metal. I had better distances with the HM but the look was too chunky and I tended to hit them left. The HM Pro came out about a month or so later and they were perfect. While not a soft feeling iron, they were certainly more than acceptable. Thanks for the review, Rick. Looking forward to the full reviews of all of the 921’s.
Big fan of the channel, Rick, and have been especially impressed by how you keep your head on the ball through strike and then allow it to follow through. Something I've been working on myself (and it still needs some work ; ).
I am a Mizuno fan, and have been looking at the hot metal irons. I currently have MP32's, and they are great. But these look fantastic. Thank goodness, I took my time to research or I would end up with PXG
Rick, I don’t think you’ve ever brought out the in-depth video you mentioned about each model. I’m looking at the forged and would appreciate your opinion abit further on them! Happy new year! 🎉
I play the 919 Tours 3-PW and they are simply amazing. I don't think they're scary at all, they are much easier to hit than a true blade and the traditional lofts suit me down to the ground. Personally, I prefer the more chilled look of the 919s, but still a beautiful set of irons. Can't go wrong Rick! Also, what amazing camera work! Wonderful vid, thank you.
I finally got a new set of irons after way too long, I picked up the Hot Metal Pro and love them. I have to say I had one grip that was a little off, but given the Covid timeframe we are in, I will give them a little slack, I am sure they are doing their best to try to keep up with demand and timeframes to get clubs out to folks quickly. Thanks for the video Rick, your channel has inspired me to get out and play more and try to improve and enjoy the game :)
Haven't watched a Shiels video in a year. That's how much I love Mizuno sticks. The 921s look a little more like the MP line now with that horizontal line in the back. Best looking JPX yet.
Went to Golftown to test the Mizuno Tour against Titleist T200 and the Callaway X Forged, didn't expect Mizuno to feel and sound that good! I'm considering Mizuno to be my next set! Thanks Rick!
I am a complete Mizuno adept. Playing the JPX 900 tour for just over 2 years now. Absolutely adore them, but now seeing these new 921’s could make me consider upgrading. Still have my eyes on the new mizuno putter as well!
I find that my Mizuno 919 Tour long irons do very well out of tough lies. Sometimes a lie just doesn't let you play a 4-5 iron as we saw with the 5 iron, but in general, they glide nicely through long grass.
I just got a new set of PXG irons and man I love them. Ive only played TaylorMade/Nike but I put the PXG 0211 up against some of the new TM irons and there was a decent difference in overall feel, distance, dispersion. Best golf purchase I've made in a long time. Love your videos Rick, makes my work days much more bearable.
I play Mizuno MX25 now. I have had these in my bag for well over a decade. Now that I am performing my 62 trip around the sun and playing a bit less golf and out of shape a bit. ...I feel a slightly more forgiving club might be the order of the day. I love the feel and reward of a crisply struck Mizuno iron. I think that is why I have played them for so long but now I am considering the 919 Forged. I have some skil and can shoot a decent round. My consistency is way off right now. I want a more forgiving club with the feel I am used to. I hope these are the bad boys that fulfill that need. Thanks for the video.
Got the lefty SEL set arriving in couple weeks after a few weeks fitting. The 4/5 are the forged, with rest the tour style.. looking forward to summer of golf ahead

I know you wouldn’t normally consider a combo set but it seems like that would be the solution for you.
Yeah, sometimes I listen to rick and think to myself that’s he could use some of his own advice, and also that he shouldn’t be so stuck in his ways when picking clubs. But saying that, i’m still not near as good at golfer as him

Colin Olsen id say from 6iron tour to 5 forged is the best bet there
He lets his ego get in the way. He wants one set of shiny matching clubs. Could just hit hybrids too but he’s too proud to use the easier option
@@isaiahbishop7890 that is still a big gap in lofts.

@@kevo0954 yeah I just bought the mp 20 sel though so I dont think I'll upgrade
Kyle Pasta I believe he wondered what SEL means...
Special Edition Leftie🙂
I wonder how they will handle the big loft gap between 6 and 5? I have a (RH) combo set with 919 Tour P-7 and Forged 6-4. My forged is bent 2deg weak. I actually ordered them only one degree weak but there must have been some misunderstanding. The 921 Forged seams to be is one degree stronger than 919 so the gap will be even larger...
I love Mizuno irons!! I currently game the JPX 900 Hot Metals so I would love the try the 921 Hot Metals & Pros. Can’t wait for the in-depth video coming.
Interesting to call the grips out. I ordered a set of 919 from mizuno about a month ago and the grip on the 7 iron is horribly misaligned.
I just got the 919 hot metal pros last week. The 5 iron grip is way off. My OCD is going to make me get it regripped.
I work in a shop. Mizzy has some iffy builders.
I got 919 tour about month ago too. Grips were great, but the T20 gap wedge I bought with it is misaligned
Ok...have calmed down now! Best reviews ever! Honest, brilliantly produced and utterly respected. Cheers Rick
I have been waiting for the 921 Hot Metals to come out. I almost bought the 919s. I can't wait to see the full review.
I just bought the 921 Hot Metal irons. I am currently a handicap of 25 and these irons have a super feel. Great purchase. I am so pleased.
Hey rick love the videos I’m fairly new to golf and have only been playing a couple of months but am progressing quite well could you please do a video on the different types of irons as I have no idea the difference between a bladed or forged or any other type of iron
Easy. Go to the golf shop and grab a muscle back club out of the used bin and hot a few in their swing bay. You'll instantly feel the difference!
Booked a fitting last week.
My 917' s were fitted with Forged 6 to Gap and Hot Metal 4 & 5
The 4 & 5 are really easy to hit and the 4 was so strong that it pushed my 3 rescue out of my bag.
Also fully recommend having a matching gap wedge, I mainly use it for full shots and as my preferred club to have left into the green follwing a lay up.
From experience I really think that most mid handicap amateurs would be better off with forgiving long irons and a matching gap wedge.
Mizuno: Missing the target never felt so good.
10 months ago. But 2020 has made it feel like 2 years ago!!!
Those tours are a beauty. I have the 919 tour but couldn’t get them new. They don’t make them anymore. Looks like the 921 tours are mine. Thanks for the video Rick. Can’t wait for the next video on these
Given the info from the review, Definately the hot metal irons for this hot mess of a golfer🥵!
Absolutely love your videos. Very entertaining and great information on the clubs. Your the best!!!

The editing of some of your shots is incredible. Well done. Especially the shot that almost killed a bird.
Saw the 921 Tour today and they look great. Cannot wait to hit them.
If I was to get a set it would either be a hot metal pro or forged is the best for me
I had 15 year old mizuno mx25's, i played off 23 at the time, when i got them i got down to 17 in about 6 months, so forgiving and good distance from old clubs.
Was hoping for the same.
I watch a lot of golf videos in RUclips and yours are by far the best!! Keep it up and lots of love from AUS🤙🤙
Thanks for the video Rick, your channel has inspired me to get out and play more and try to improve and enjoy the game :)
that drone shot at 11:28 though! what a shot!
thank you. after watching your review I purchased the forged irons. Great review and help.
I bought the Hot Metal recently and I have never hit irons better. They are honestly amazing.
Best Club Review So Far Rick Great Editing
Always so happy to see a new video pop up! Yes, please don't kill any birds in the process! haha
Had a fitting today, and going for the Tour version with KBS shafts. Going to be a huge step up from my 18 year old TM RAC combos - can’t wait!
Just got fitted for the hot metals. Excited to get em. Love your channel.
I’m fairly new to golf and I just got me a set of Mizuno forged 850s and I love them
Got the lefty SEL set arriving in couple weeks after a few weeks fitting. The 4/5 are the forged, with rest the tour style.. looking forward to summer of golf ahead
I bought the 921 hotmetals on Jan 1st. I love the way the feel and look. So solid.
