Is your screen 100% zoomed during the process? I dont know if has any influence, but I stuck on aligning the column layout to the left and right part.
When I try to align left or right, the dashed line does not go in the exactly middle of the column :|

If I understand your problem correctly, you need to press the column and press layout again. Here you can align the column to the left or right. This should cause the dashed line to be in the middle!

What height do you recommend for a big photo on the homepage so the user who opens the site sees it right away in full ? I plan to write my name and my comany name on the photo (is a good idea?). Above the big photo it I would just have the Menu Strip. Thanks you so much.

Writing on top of a photo can look very tacky if not done well. You need to make sure the text is very readable in terms of contrast with the background. And stick to the same fonts and colors you use on the rest of the site.

If you're using the old editor, Strips are sections for your pages. But if you're using the newer editor, then Strips help you design the sections.
