while everything said here is true, this is a war that peruvians did not lose. they lost in the air, but you have to remember that this was a time where peru was dealing with the internal turmoil and the armed forces wasn't doing very well either (underfunded, etc) still. we fought a conflict on two fronts. and the before and after map of the war tells the real story. sure, you may hear someone here say their uncle destroyed a peruvian tank in the jungle. it may even be true. but it's just nice anecdotes from the losing side.
The Peruvian Su-22s were hardly highly capable aircraft. The Soviets were very stingy at providing top line planes to their foreign customers. The Su-22s had only rudimentary avionics installed and were very much visual-only for nav and attack. In fact, they didn't even have IFF compatible with the air defense systems that the Soviets provided at the same time, making them vulnerable to their own defenses. Their radar was limited to gun ranging only in the air-to-air function, and their IR homing AAMs were tail-chase only, not all-aspect. And the Su-22 was inherently limited by its development from the Su-7, which had a notoriously short range with any reasonable payload, and poor maneuverability.
@@duartesimoes508 Control force inputs on the Su-7 were very taxing on the pilots. I have read that some pilots compared it to flying a Hawker Hunter in manual reversion mode without the hydraulics. It's a good thing it had limited range; pilots would not have been able to withstand flying the thing much longer without serious muscle strain.
There are photos of Peruvian Su-22 fighters equipped with R-3 "Atoll" missiles for air combat. The truth is that Peru had terrible economic problems for its air forces. Things did not improve later in 1996 when the MiG-29 and Su-25 were bought in Belarus, which proved not to have the necessary logistic support to be operated.

The A37 is very underrated. It can loiter around like an attack chopper while delivering heavy firepower that attack choppers cannot bring to bear. Its good they managed to survive the Kfirs
Strike-master a weaponised Jet Provost, constant speed, variable noise...
Very interesting and good conclusion remark.
how is this so well documented
Very nice video.
what video clip is that at the very end?
Good one mate! Really shoulda gotten far more views than this
Those mirage F-1's look a whole like the older U.S. Navy's F 11 F's
They actually do, from certain angles.
If you want a French jet that looks even more like the f-11:
Breguet TAON.
Bien por Ecuador......... am glad I found thus channel.......
the better radar make a difference
Muh Ecuador kicked ass being smoler in every way 😎🇪🇨
Well...you'd think they'd fight over something important like a soccer game.
You mean football, as the rest of the world call it because it’s played with your feet. 😑
Am I the only one who experienced drastic sound level differences during the Whole video? It feels like of Ed constantly switched microphones during the video...
My earlier vids I recorded the sound on my phone. Not great, I'll admit.
There werent some air-to-air fights in the south atalantic conflict in 1982?
Saludos desde Ecuador, Victoria aérea del 10 de febrero
sorry, but if you lost, or did not understand the video well
Interesting, how many of these conflicts are likely to flare up again in South America?.
Interesting!
Love the end. WAR! WHAT IS GOOD FOR? 👍🏻
The actor Antonio Banderas was one of the pilots??
Perhaps one of the best modern fighter jet war next to Eritrean-Ethiopian jet war. im pretty sure you obtained it from ACIG.org
The peruvian A37 was shot down by Mata, not by Moya.
In the 70s marshal of Cambridge, refurbished those Canberra’s to be sold to Peru. 💡👍
It was a Hunting, the SU 22 dont have autodefense missile ,its a bombarder .
Su 22 are able to launch IR missiles K-13 (AA-2 Atoll)
The only war in the history Perú vs Ecuador it was in 1941, after that there were only small border caos, small fight, tha's all.
*sukhoi 22 VS kfir, great air disadvantage*
Su22 is ground attack aircraft. No radar even.
Ecuadorian air force victorious in the war of cenepa
by the way
"Known as the FAPP.........No sniggering in the back please" Until you said that I didn't think of it, it's like telling a sly joke deadpan and then telling people not to laugh when they get it.
Nobody loses territories when wins a war that an insane idea,
Glory tu Ecuador 🇪🇨!!! Chuczzzzz Que viva Ecuador !
Since the gulf War the french mirage has proven itself not a single Aircraft went down.
Uh sir (hand up from back of briefing) could repeat all of the names again please 😳 (muttering from front... stupid boy in Capt Mainwaring tone)
No sniggering at the back......you don’t say
Mirage can't shoot their own brand.
Audio is horrible. I merely can understands what you say.
The A37 pilot that seems to have been the best in this video
Excellent flying, but his seat must've been quite brown when he got back.
Have you had a long boxing career?
Air superiority means nothing in the jungle peru won this war on the ground
Nice
So not the famed Football War.
The FAP 🤣. And here I thought we were the only one with a military "fortunate" enough to use that acronym. It's for Frigate Acquisition Program of the Philippine Navy.
France and Brazil almost got into a war in the early 60's over ......lobsters!
Ah...the Canberra Bombers! :-)
I can't get over the fact the Peruvian Air Force is called FAP and he keeps saying it in the video lmao
Fappers, all of them!
while everything said here is true, this is a war that peruvians did not lose. they lost in the air, but you have to remember that this was a time where peru was dealing with the internal turmoil and the armed forces wasn't doing very well either (underfunded, etc) still. we fought a conflict on two fronts. and the before and after map of the war tells the real story. sure, you may hear someone here say their uncle destroyed a peruvian tank in the jungle. it may even be true. but it's just nice anecdotes from the losing side.
The SU-7 landed at 170 knots indicated airspeed! Must be terrifying... 💪

Control force inputs on the Su-7 were very taxing on the pilots. I have read that some pilots compared it to flying a Hawker Hunter in manual reversion mode without the hydraulics. It's a good thing it had limited range; pilots would not have been able to withstand flying the thing much longer without serious muscle strain.
Yeah, and the Matra Magics used by the Ecuadorians were "all aspect", right? LOL!!!
As usual, Western aircraft fared better than Eastern.
In 1991 the NATO executed simulated Air Combat between the F-16 and the (East) German MiG-29. The F-16 lost all of them. Another Example ... simulated Air Combat between american F-18 and german Mig-29 ...
ruclips.net/video/Mn1sBfIlUjY/видео.html
... read the discription! All used Mig-29 was aged Export Versions.
Typically a bomber vs a fighter! Not a fair fight
Both are fighter-bombers...
I wonder if the helo sent to rescue the Dragonfly crew was a Huey... FAP, FAP, FAP, FAP, FAP! 🤣
This is not a match at all?
Video about a conflict between two nations: two set of ‘patriots’ claiming victory in the comments...
Yes l remembered this war
