  • In this video I tried to catch a bass with various baits but it was a real tough day. The place I was fishing looked perfect for a variety of techniques and I tried to force a frog bite. It didn't work out the way I had hoped. I ended up trying the Zman Palmetto Bugz. I rigged it on a 3/8 texas rigged weight with a size 4/0 Extra Wide Gap Hook. I was using the Palmetto Bugz in around various laydowns and some grass. Caught a good one with it that certainly saved the morning!

@@timperry6095 I kid with trav about how he talks and how he needs to put some southern slang in his voice. It has nothing to do with where the palmetto bug is from. Thanks though

@@timperry6095 also south Carolina is the south. If you're talking about how me saying new York met he said pal-meato and I was telling it was pronounced met as in the mets.

M Jones no, just more acknowledging that Z-Man is headquartered in South Carolina, and wishing I was headed back there soon.

@@timperry6095 LOL I heard that, I'm from Alabama and go out of state for workshops and go through SC everytime and it's a beautiful state. But the 2 lane interstates with 65mph limit kill me

Thank you for great review. I was thinking of getting some new fish gear, except I didn’t know what to get next. Now I think I’m gonna to try this just because I trust your advice.

The Palmetto Bugz is my go to flipping bait (along with Big Bite craw tubes). The Palmetto Bugz is incredibly durable, even with the large number of pike attacking them here in Minnesota. For EWG style hooks, try the newer Mustad grip pin ones. They stay totally locked in place with those. Straight shank flipping hooks work good with them too but the ones with the big plastic keepers do tear them up faster by the head. Also, these baits are very buoyant too. You need to up size your sinker about one level to get the same fall rate as similar size and shaped "normal" plastics.

Travis, you have probably answered this a thousand times, but where can I purchase the red bait keepers you have on the handles of your rods? Thanks!

What is the difference between fishing for small mouth and large mouth? Environment? Tackle? The lake itself? Water depth? Let me know I am a green horn fisherman!
