Mines done 181,000 miles and is 21 years old, still runs drives reliably every day. The cars are so simple to maintain and keep in good order neglect and negligence is often the root cause for failure of all vehicles. The motors in the D2 were the final version of a late 1950s GM design and being all aluminum were quite light weight, even being one of the first production turbocharged motors. They are simple to work on the electronics aren’t the greatest as they age but still simple. The big issue is LR then owned by BMW decided to push the aging engine design and thus ran a hot thermostat in them that really was not great for the head gaskets, coupled with a coolant temp gauge that only moved when it was nearing overheating cause a lot of head gasket problems. But still head gaskets on these older motors aren’t that big of an order, certainly nothing compared to a modern motor.
just recently sold my 2003 discovery for 30k, reason probably being there arent many of these not beat or offroaded, mine always was paint corrected and ceramic coated and avoided rain but i sure do miss it
I still have an 01 I bought new with 97k on the clock. Always been garage kept and still in great condition. I refuse to let go of it even though my wife wishes I would get rid of it.
Nice job man! The clearcoat on my 03 disco has faded on the top bad, and what use to be the size of a penny turned into a watermelon on the hood within 3 years. Alveston red. Thought about having it repainted. Not sure if it's saveable. The paint looks good tho lol not like my black 94 corvette. You can see the scratches up close like the discovery in this video. Darker colors show more I guess
TBH, I think the bear prints were cool. Since you can't get rid of them, I'd highlight them by painting them a different color. I have a Discovery 1 and to all the haters out there, kiss it. I have over 200k miles on it without any problems aside from normal maintenance. I recently polished the paint on mine and it made it look so much better. It was beginning to oxidize and now its back to its shiny self.
The Disco 1 was pretty solid if you kept the rust under control and replaced the head gaskets you can drive those for many miles. The Disco 2 had more issues, the frame was thinner(many cars in the snow belt had frames rust out) and they cheaped out in some places and the old Buick v8 machining and casting was at the end of it's life so especially the newest 4.6 V8's had some bigger issues than the common head gaskets. I had a disco it was a good car, I have the 3 now and it has been a great car, got a 5 to replace it and not so good went back to the 3. It seems to bridge the gap between modern but still old school where the 4 and 5 are just too technology focused which means more to break and electrical malfunctions will immobilize the car.
@@shaunbava1801 Actually BMW bought all new tooling for casting the 4.0 and 4.6 when they owned LR. I own a D2 the biggest issue in the blocks themselves are tolerance related I.E. not enough room for coolant passages between cylinders 5 and 7. But the real problem was the thermostat being too warm for the motor causing the aluminum to expand too much and allowing sleeves to slip on some blocks. But everything else you said is spot on. This new tooling can be seen in the addition of extra block ribbing and new rear main and front main seal, cross bolted main bearings.
Always had the weirdest soft spot for these haha they’re just so incredible when handling an over lander type of off-roading. Obviously the newer ones are far superior with the tech being so far ahead, but still an impressive truck for the capability while being a luxury suv. Unique in a shit load of ways, and looks like nothing else on the road. Only ever worked on and Polished one, and that bitch has ALOT of surface area to cover 😂 Can’t wait to get my hands on a Rupes one of these days Keep killin it dude 🙌🏽 and stay awesome
Consider a zentool instead of a Rupes. Had them both (LHR 21 MKIII & 21E2), and sold the Rupes. I wanted to love it more than the Zentool, but couldn't. Rupes' are damn sexy though!
Your video just came along at the right time, I’ve just bought a Black Discovery just like that one with disgusting paint and interior. I’m looking forward to the challenge 😀
I would say a ceramic definitly has a point then! Giving it the best protection possible to the elements and stops it from oxidizing. Just look at the latest Chicago Auto Pros ceramic comparison!
That Discovery turned out real good man! Btw could you post a link to the music from this video? You always find the best music for these types of videos 😃👌

I've had my 03 disco for 7 years invested $15000 in it but I still refuse to let it go. Also owned a first gen 97 but was a money pit. They are definitely not reliable and horrible on gas but there is just something to them. Great off road and comfortable highway cruising along with its not common to see them on the streets, stands out for sure. It is a special vehicle just take care of it and it won't let you down...maybe. lol

Hello sir, do you proceed by the preparation stage of the vehicle ie the pre-washing, washing, de-icing and ferrous decontamination before moving on to the polishing of the bodywork? 🤔
I noticed you switched from Meguiars microfiber pads to Rupes. See any real difference? Also were you really using Beadmaker to remove the polishing oils?

Great content. I always learn something watching you work. Nice touch with the Bead Maker.
Thanks Raul! This paint is so soft the bead maker definitely helps with oil removal ✅

What a fantastic result! Great work 👌🏼

Yes. Also bead maker is a sealant.
