The DM Conundrum: The less DM cards you play the worse each DM card your already playing becomes. Play too many DM cards and the power level of your deck is too low and cant keep up. I think experimenting with the Bonds package could be fruitful. Its lowkey one of the best things we can do with Rod+Souls or Souls+Servant and is one of the rare cards that gives us pluses.
I've been leaning heavily toward the idea of a blind second Dark Magician list, since DM struggles to play through interruptions and really benefits from blowout cards. What happened to your Runick build though? You were so excited for that. I'm curious if you ran into the same issue I did when experimenting with that build: you either draw too heavily into one side of the engine or your hand is split and you die to a single Ash. Runick Dark Magician is a bit of a glass cannon. It can be super oppressive, but it's fragile.
I still love that Runick DM list… I think its till very strong. I just really really want to figure out how to play duality optimally. I think that card has a ridiculous upside. Runick may very well reappear before YCS Vancouver for me. I did a little work with blind second DM, it’s actually kind of saucy with REF (the 2 pops are so clutch). Maybe something I dabble in, in the future.
I am a bit confused. Why do you play two El Shaddol winda? and have you done a video on how to utilise & combo with the "Duality" quick play Spell card?
I show how duality is used in the test hand video, more videos to come. 2 Shaddoll winda because if one gets outted while you still have schism on the field you can just make another one
Just curious how do you fusion summon the shaddoll monsters without shaddoll material? Didn’t see any shaddoll monsters in the deck? Love the build btw! Dark Magician is the way!
Shaddoll schism enables the winda play. Grang- will send Shaddoll Apkolone to grave, which will get you schism. Set schism, and on your turn activate schism to summon winda and lock your opponent to 1 special summon :)
Good luck! I don't think this list will be all too good but i definitely want to see how you evolve. As someone who also experimented heavily with the deck in the past I think the best advice is figuring out if the deck let you down or if you just made bad choices. My deck at the time felt like it always had an answer but I wasn't a good enough duelist to capitalize on it. Hope it goes well for you
Really enjoying seeing newer cards and thinking going into this deck design. Question though, is the omission of Prep for IoCs because you feel like you see them enough at three or do you feel like you don't need to search with the overall deck construction/ability to go crazy?
Thank you so much! I appreciate the comment! I opt to run 3 IOC over the 2/2 because droll and lock bird is a card that’s heavily used right now, and getting drolled on prep ends your turn. 3 copies compared to 2/2, the math doesn’t change much to justify the extra main deck slot.
Like the first one, i really love how you think and how you're trying to deal with DM in the meta ! Any reason why you cut Runick even with the banlist didn't touch it ? Is it because of the new format with less Kashtira, more Lab/Dlink and others decks ? And for your question, i don't really know what you could do better for videos in generals, maybe somes littles thinks about side deck even if, as you told me before, it ofc depend on your local and format, but it could be really interesting to see how you think for building your side ! Anyway, keep going, i don't know a lot of DM players, but even so, you're the one i want to follow! (sorry for my english, i may be really clunky i'm a french guy and as a good french guy i'm not the best with english grammar haha)
Appreciate the kind words my friend! Thank you so much. Runick is still awesome and that version of DM is still very strong. I just really really want to figure out how to play duality optimally. I think that card has a ridiculous upside, which could change the way we look at deck building going forward.
@@MatchieYGO I see ! That's right it's a fantastic card, and i think shadow's light will pop off too in time, guys are speeling too much on it because it's not a rapid spell but she's incredible too ! I hope that you will succeed at YCS my friend !
Curious to know what The Bystial Lubellion would like in this deck (and if that would be a necessary inclusion if you play with a few of the continuous spells). In theory, based on your desire to keep it at a nice, streamlined 40 cards, it might not be worth the potential of ending up at 42-44. Maybe at 1? I remember using it in Bystial DM that way before I switched to Branded for comp play and played Invoked DM as a casual thing with friends, but I couldn't comment further without testing. I really love this list, and I'm excited to try it out! Also: Black/White Shonen Jump DM is the GOAT! I have the ulti one you have, too, but I got the Shonen one for $5 at Frank and Sons when no one cared about it lmao. So many cool arts; only one spot to fill. Also, too, as well: Subscribing!
That’s amazing! I’m working towards that Jump DM, hopefully I’ll have it soon! As for bystial Lubellion… I’m very comfortable with a heavy bystial engine, that being said, Bystials are only as strong as the format… with few light and dark decks, the Bystials have less value. If the format shifts, I’ll 100% be going back to a heavier bystial package
I run most of this deck lmao. Good luck my man. Have you tried running bystial lubellion with the regained and beast? Or even branded lost would be nice to protect your fusions
Yup! It was Completely overlooked right before I pressed record. 15th card can be Lubellion, Master of Chaos or Artemis. Can’t go wrong with either of them (recently, I’ve been testing with mysterion the dragon crown as a Duality Target)
I'd love a walkthrough of a combos for the engines, especially as a new player who is struggling to see the road from the opening cards to the final card😅YuGiOh be complicated sometimes
I can't wait to see if you try to incorporate the phantom beast monsters in the deck as I personally think that running one chimera fusion, gazelle, berformet, and mirror swordsman is a perfect complement to the branded engine, and it small enough but makes the ceiling WAY HIGHER for the deck. I'd be curious to hear your thoughts.
Super interested in those cards, I’ll definitely be testing them out when they come out. Also can’t wait for the illusion archetype to drop. I think that’ll be fun the experiment with
i can't wait to see some test hands and combos with this list it's so interesting 🔥 i was always saying the same argument about hand traps it's not enough i was going to say super poly is an amazing board bricker but with all the discards effect it looks bad to play 😂
Can someone explain how to use Duality in this deck? I've been playing DM mostly with branded package and bystials on a very casual basis so Duality is new to me.
That was a mistake I over looked before recording. 15th ED slot could be: Master of chaos, Lubellion, Artemis… recently I’ve been experimenting with Mysterion the Dragon Crown as a duality target.
You need 1 at the very least. Play 1 with 2-3 preparation of rites, and it’ll work fine. The only reason I play 3 is to not lose to droll and lock bird as hard
While i dont play Yugioh competitively that much, i do love this build for my favorite card of all time. Oof those blazing cartesias though...guess i better go sell some pokemon 😂😂😂
I like droplet, I think it’s really strong, but in this list, your resources matter a lot. You can’t afford to be discarding cards to negate effects. DRNM is 1 card and shuts down an entire board
as much as i enjoyed the video but to be completly fair one DM makes the deck more situational since running 3 copies almost garuntees the effect requirement like theoretically u could have one dm in the deck or gy or the field and change its position to have more capabitlites of fuflilling the card effects requirment
Jeff Jones made 34th place in a YCS in 2016. I think the Top 32 was considered part of the top cut but still very good. Loza Mews also landed a 117th place in a 2021 YCS. He also fell 1 win short of Top 64 but out of 1800 players it might as well be considered a top as far as DM is concerned.
Cartesia and any dark make Grang-, Chain 1 grang, Chain 2 Duality. Duality sends Grang to Grave to summon dragoon. grang resolves, Sending Apkolone to grave which gets you schism to hand. Set Schism, and on your opp turn, activate it, summoning winda
I think this list needs to be on Nibiru alongside 3 Drnm and 3 Evenly. I really dont think 6 non engine is enough. Nib would be really good into rouge combo early at an event for stuff like Darkworld handloop, Drytron but also for cyberse decks like Marincess and Mathmech. Also this dm list just gets ftkd by rikka sunavalon. It wont be the most represented deck but it will def be at top tables (Ik people who have topped at vancouver with the deck in the past). This list would neeed to draw exactly drnm + evenly to crack the board otherwise you will get rosewhiped out of your spells. Also your game 1 vs that deck is horrible. They also have very easy outs too dragoon and things to bait it with
I whole heartedly agree with Nib (currently playing it in the side) the idea is that the bystials carry those “hand trap interactions” also… but I agree… in the near future, I’m confident nib will find its way into the main. People just don’t respect it. As for rika, yeah that’s a scary scary deck. However there is only so much you can prepare for haha. That goes with all the rouge decks as well. Good thing we still have months of testing to get done before the event! Thank you so much for the comment! I appreciate it!
@@MatchieYGO Id be a little sceptical of the Bysstials this format. At face value they seem to not match up well vs the meta rn. Correct me if im wrong but they seem impractical agaisnt top decks like Kash, and Runick Variants.
@@alexanderspassov4759I agree and disagree. Some matchups it’s a blowout, other times it’s very hindering. For me it’s about balance, and the beautiful thing about Bystials is that you can banish your own resources to generate further advantage which can come up. But yes, it’s going to come down to what matchups we need to prioritize, and that’s where the side deck will hold all its value
@@MatchieYGO Hmm ye I agree that can be very good against some decks and serve a dual functionality as engine but in that case I would probably cut the package down in the main and possibly side the rest. Then again you know your own decklist better than I do and I would be very interested in the follow up vids or anything explainng the main combo line(s) and end boards this deck is trying to acheive. BC im quite fuzzy on new cards like Duality and how the branded package (aside from BrFu) fit into the deck.
Hi! I just want to point a thing as a Dark Magician fan and player. I think that playing it as an engine, is not topping with DM. If you want to win with Dark Magician in your deck, play Branded, it's a lot easier. If we want to top with DM, we should find a different line, where DM cards are the main characters and maximum splash an engine to help them shine. Your deck is just a Branded with a Dark Magician engine... basically a lot weaker Branded. Sorry, I don't want to offend, it's just my opinion. I will follow this series and truly hope you find a way to top a YCS. By the way I took some inspirations from one of your old builds and arrived third with DM at a local with pretty strong decks.
No offence taken my friend. You make accurate points (this deck being a worse version of branded) (which is totally true btw) every variant of DM where you incorporate other engines fall under that same umbrella (even my Runick build) I personally think given the number of cards and utilities provided by each engine, both are equally important in this list. I can play “Pure DM” but what fun is having Eternal Soul, Circle backed by 25 Floodgates. That’s just my opinion on the matter. all that being said, I truly want to thank you for coming out and watching my content! Means the world to me! And I’m so glad you had success with inspo that came form me! I’d love it if you shared what you played :)
Like I said, because I don’t use the traditional methods for utilizing the DM engine, doesn’t mean it doesn’t feel like DM. Check out the test hand video, and the synergy the sub engines have with DM and the DM engine. Like I said, the more open minded people are about DM going forward the better it is for the deck. Playing DM like it was played in 2016/17 isn’t going to do anything for us in 2023
It was Completely overlooked right before I pressed record. 15th card can be Lubellion, Master of Chaos or Artemis. Can’t go wrong with either of them (recently, I’ve been testing with mysterion the dragon crown as a Duality Target)
Calm down mate, he has a fair point. Dark magician doesn’t stand a chance against most meta these days. Ik how much it sucks cuz I mainly use dark magician myself but it cant do much against mega without other engines in the deck

Shaddoll schism enables the winda play. Grang- will send Shaddoll Apkolone to grave, which will get you schism. Set schism, and on your turn activate schism to summon winda and lock your opponent to 1 special summon :)
@@MatchieYGO ahh, I see now. Thanks for the explanation man! Greatly appreciated. Gonna try that out!
Go Dark Magicians go!
I run most of this deck lmao. Good luck my man. Have you tried running bystial lubellion with the regained and beast? Or even branded lost would be nice to protect your fusions
I have! Talked about it in the video. One of my favourite variants is a heavy Bystial engine with DM
Combo tutorial. Test hands. Gimme, gimme.
Good luck brother ! As a blue eyes player
Thank you so much! I appreciate the kind words!
Nice video bro, keep it up ❤
Appreciate the kind words my friend :)
thanks, what about side deck? :')
Making a video on it shortly
I think you may be missing an ED monster; I counted only 14
Yup! It was Completely overlooked right before I pressed record. 15th card can be Lubellion, Master of Chaos or Artemis. Can’t go wrong with either of them (recently, I’ve been testing with mysterion the dragon crown as a Duality Target)
Dark magician structure deck just announced!!
You know it! I’m sure so many people like myself are HYPED!
Interessting maybe i givw thisbdeck list a shot 😂😂
Question: how do you fusion summon your el shadoll winda? Using what?
Cartesia makes winda possible :) if you check out my combo video or “how to play dark magician” video, i go over that and more
This is a very spicy list
How come no branded opening?
I'd love a walkthrough of a combos for the engines, especially as a new player who is struggling to see the road from the opening cards to the final card😅YuGiOh be complicated sometimes
It’s a very complicated game. Expect a video in the future going through some lines of play :)
I think that’ll be fun the experiment with
Illusion archetype? oooou
i can't wait to see some test hands and combos with this list it's so interesting 🔥
i was always saying the same argument about hand traps it's not enough
i was going to say super poly is an amazing board bricker but with all the discards effect it looks bad to play 😂
A Test hands/ theory video has been recorded, just editing now :)
Can someone explain how to use Duality in this deck? I've been playing DM mostly with branded package and bystials on a very casual basis so Duality is new to me.
It’s an extender first and foremost. Gets you access to a dragoon easier, it helps you turbo your boss monsters form the extra deck
Wait I'm confused...what does schism do here? do you have a shaddoll in the deck?
Watch the test hand videos :) it should explain your question :)
Thanks for watching
@@MatchieYGO I'll watch it a fourth time just cuz like it not because you told me!
@@MatchieYGO I see, being sick REALLY makes me not think straight so sorry
What will you put as the 15th extra-deck monster? I noticed you mentioned you took out one Lubelion
That was a mistake I over looked before recording. 15th ED slot could be: Master of chaos, Lubellion, Artemis… recently I’ve been experimenting with Mysterion the Dragon Crown as a duality target.
How consistent would the deck be without the 3 Illusion of Chaos? 👀
You need 1 at the very least. Play 1 with 2-3 preparation of rites, and it’ll work fine. The only reason I play 3 is to not lose to droll and lock bird as hard
Why cant we have just 1 dragoon in master duel? Why😢
Im just thinking doing an Anti Special summon deck with Jowgen and Monarchs lol
While i dont play Yugioh competitively that much, i do love this build for my favorite card of all time. Oof those blazing cartesias though...guess i better go sell some pokemon 😂😂😂
Even if you don’t play much, I appreciate you watching! Means so much :) thank you!
Why Dark Ruler No More over Forbidden Droplet
I like droplet, I think it’s really strong, but in this list, your resources matter a lot. You can’t afford to be discarding cards to negate effects. DRNM is 1 card and shuts down an entire board
@@MatchieYGO I like when they try to negate evenly you chain droplet using evenly as a resource and everything goes through
Respond soon please how do i spell graganyule i cant see the name ty!!!!!!
granguignol the dusk dragon
thankyou
🔥👍
as much as i enjoyed the video but to be completly fair one DM makes the deck more situational since running 3 copies almost garuntees the effect requirement like theoretically u could have one dm in the deck or gy or the field and change its position to have more capabitlites of fuflilling the card effects requirment
sorry the for incredibly long paragraph
Anyone know the last time DM topped at a YCS?
Jeff Jones made 34th place in a YCS in 2016. I think the Top 32 was considered part of the top cut but still very good.
Loza Mews also landed a 117th place in a 2021 YCS. He also fell 1 win short of Top 64 but out of 1800 players it might as well be considered a top as far as DM is concerned.
how to duality and carté come to dragoon winda ?
Why not 2 ioc, 2 souls, 2 rod, then 2 prep which can search the rest and bait ash
Droll and lock bird is very prevalent in this format. If you get drolled on prep, your turn ends. 3 IOC is all you need In my opinion.
Why not runick?
Runick DM is still very strong. I just really really want to figure out how to play duality optimally. I think that card has a ridiculous upside.
@@MatchieYGO Amazing! Success in it
You make accurate points (this deck being a worse version of branded) (which is totally true btw) every variant of DM where you incorporate other engines fall under that same umbrella (even my Runick build)
I personally think given the number of cards and utilities provided by each engine, both are equally important in this list.
I’d love it if you shared what you played :)
let's gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
This is less DM and more everything else. I believe it can top but on the back of everything else realistically. Branded DM, very interesting though.
I like the deck but it doesn't feel like DM anymore.
Playing DM like it was played in 2016/17 isn’t going to do anything for us in 2023
@MatchieYGO oh I am all down for it. Hopefully the new structure deck does something about DM as well.
Why only 14 Ex Deck?
It was Completely overlooked right before I pressed record. 15th card can be Lubellion, Master of Chaos or Artemis. Can’t go wrong with either of them (recently, I’ve been testing with mysterion the dragon crown as a Duality Target)
So if I put a Dark Magician into a SPYRAL deck I get to call it a Dark Magician deck? Cool.
Calm down mate, he has a fair point. Dark magician doesn’t stand a chance against most meta these days. Ik how much it sucks cuz I mainly use dark magician myself but it cant do much against mega without other engines in the deck
It’s a 14 card extra deck, and still feels so powerful. Absolutely insane video!!
That was a mistake, it should be 15. You can play anything in that last slot (Lubellion, Master if Chaos, Artimis, ect)
This Game is over😂
I wish you success but I do not agree with your list.
Thank you! And criticism is encouraged :) let me know what you’d do differently! I’d appreciate it.
This is just a Branded deck with a splash of DM lol
Really? There are 7 branded cards in the main deck and 15 DM cards. Seems like it’s the other way around
So your in no way playing dark magician abandoning its play style less then half the deck is dm it’s albaz deck with a dm engine
There are a total of 8 fallen of Albaz cards :) no different than playing red eyes fusion, or any other flood gate variation. The deck has 15 DM cards, which is significantly more than any other single archetype ratio.
Cope
This looks like something that you’d see on jankbank but like it kinda cooks I really hope you get your top man
Appreciate the kind words! Thank you!
