For all you wondering why they put the breaks of random silence in the song, it is to represent and show us that truly "words are all we have". Because as soon as they take them away, if even for a few seconds, we feel confused and like something is wrong.
***** yea but bastille once started as a solo project from dan smith and he's the songwriter so basically he's the one telling the stories which make them "his" songs
Happy birthday to this beautiful song! I remember reading in an interview about how DIY was the making of this video, including Dan cooking for everyone on the set and being the driver. And now they just played two gigs at the O2. God, I bloody love this band! xx
For me I interpret this song like this: The book is her diary. As she walks through the streets, holding it in her hands she reminds what she wrote down, what she's been through. And because she wants to forget these bad memories, she buries them in a forest. Or that she wants to let go of her childhood by burying her diary. I don't know if thats the message of this music video, but thats how I interpret it.
We went to see these guys in London earlier this year, the lead singer had us all sing happy birthday to his sister lol, great Gig, great memories, such a humble guy...
Anyone else a “Twin Peaks” fan? 🌲 Notice all of the inspiration that came from the “Twin Peaks” storyline woven within almost every Bastille song and video. It’s absolutely brilliant.
Oh I feel overjoyed When you listen to my words I see them sinking in Oh I see them crawling underneath your skin Words are all we have We'll be talking We'll be talking These words are all we have We'll be talking And I hear you calling in the dead of night Oh I hear you calling in the dead of night You lean towards despair Any given opportunity you're there But what is there to gain? When you're always falling off the fence that way. Words are all we have We'll be talking We'll be talking These words are all we have We'll be talking And I hear you calling in the dead of night Oh I hear you calling in the dead of night Oh I hear you calling in the dead of night Oh I hear you calling in the dead of night Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh And I hear you calling in the dead of night Oh I hear you calling in the dead of night Oh I hear you calling in the dead of night Oh I hear you calling in the dead of night Ooh Oh I feel overjoyed When you listen to my words

Love Bastille, best band around at the moment. I can't see this song being as popular as Pompeii though unfortunately, which is a shame as it's a wicked song.
How long has it been and I still get goose bumps at that slightly discordant three-note harmony on "...tunity you're there..." and "...fence that way..."? Don't even start me on the chorus. My guys are all about the details.
I feel this is a song about crippling depression and how people can try to resist it, but slowly the words and nightmares from it seep into your head and drive you deeper into the void of depression. This also goes along with the irony of the title "Overjoyed", since people with depression often try to conceal their symptoms behind a wall of fake joy.
As a recovering addict, Bastille has helped me with anxiety and my ignorance towards self love. I have lost multiple times at love and the deprivation has never been more severe. From family to lover, I have always ended up being needy. Showing my vulnerability on RUclips makes no sense but that's what I felt listening to this song. Cheers if you read my entire comment. Pray for me🫶🏽
My take on the video is that her life used to be really messed up, and she smoked and stuff, but things have since gotten better, but it still comes back to haunt her sometimes. It's all written down in that book, all the bad memories and stuff, and so she's burying them. Except then, of course, she'll have to dig them up, because the next song is Flaws
Oh, I feel overjoyed When you listen to my woooords.... I see them sinking in... I listen to bastille music to get away from all of my feelings. I'm having trouble with friends at school but as soon as I put the ear buds in my ears all the worries and feeling I have wash away. it makes me feel empty inside sometimes which feel nice because you don't have to worry about anything until you take the earbuds out and your back into reality. Bastille is my place that I can be at peace.
i just saw them live last night and this song spoke to me on a completely different level than it had ever before. live music is so special. i will never listen to this song the same way again.
i like how when she buries the diary and opens her eyes they show paper shreds flying everywhere, as though burying the diary shredded the bad memories attached to it so she can move on past that part of her life

Shoutout to this whole album for helping me drown out all my anxieties and helping me cope with stuff at 11 years old. For 5 years now, this album is my go to 👌

I do not understand even ONE video of Bastille! Their music is great, but I have to look 1000 times to the videos will I understand maybe a half of it ! Am I the only one?
The thing about Bastille's videos is that they don't represent the story of the song, they make up their own story. If you watch the videos in the right order, (the order they were released) they are all connected to one another, making up their own storyline :)
I still get so surprised when I hear them on the radio - am so used to being the only person who knew about them. So happy for them, they deserved success years ago :)

You are indeed a genius
teslasrocketman and here i thought it was to encourage people to buy their single and not stream/download it
Then why take the music away? Makes no sense.
It's to prevent people from downloading it from RUclips I think
Words can also confuse,.....
The indie-type sound, his voice, all the historical or poetic references, they just can't make a bad song can they?
Honestly this is the first good song I found from him. R u sure u dont just like the singers really bad sean penn wig
holy smoke
I don't agree with you but you made me laugh, thank you :D Sean Penn wig xD
@@holysmoke5071 really? U dont like other Bastille songs ?
They can but they choose not too cause their so great
This sounds so sad ;(((
You can count on Bastille making a song entitled 'Overjoyed' sound so sad. Its a great song though

but the music help the lyrics convey the message they want to transmit and complete the atmosphere. so in my opinion it's their songs ^.^
that's true haha

I don't know if thats the message of this music video, but thats how I interpret it.
It's arguably a reference to the character Laura Palmer from the show Twin Peaks. Read up on it and it'll make sense.
@@hshariq I thought so
Ohh ,what I think is that she wants to bury memories of a loved one

Fantastic this band gave a lot of strength in hard times.
Just came back as a person with more sense since I last heard this song. I'm glad I could remember these good times.
Honestly, considering how amazing they are, I feel like Bastille is really underappreciated.

What I like about this song:
The chorus's chords go FACE (Em but still) - it's awesome!

Is it just me or she is kind of laura palmer in twin peaks? They also made a song about her, but this video reminds me a lot of twin peaks
Yeah they wanted to get a twin peaks feel for the video and were heavily inspired by David lynch :)
I feel sad, Bastille deserve more attention and not underated. Always support U Bastille. Love ur music❤

hmm, i don´t understand why you´re mixing pop stars with indie artists.
or at least, make it a bit reasonable - comparing bands with bands.
i don´t know where have you been all those years, but pop stars are easily marketable in the mainstream, so that´s why they´re getting so much air play and therefore have more fans.
i agree with you completely
I'm sorry, but I am Directioner and stormer, and they have absolutely nothing in common with each other, honey. They are singulary perfect 😉
lol just because people listen to 1D and JB doesn't mean that all they listen to

I think you're right. Mes is plural and ma is feminine. Ich danke Ihnen. Sorry, I don't kow German. I just looked it up.
I like the way in which they are creating these dark and negative music videos , it's perfect ! ♡
