A short and sweet trip today as I took the boat off the end of the Trent & Mersey canal and moored at Sawley. During the trip, I played chicken with a swan, and tried to hold the boat still in a sideways wind.

I live in the US and have absolutely no desire to cruise canals in a tiny, slim boat... and yet, I find this channel so fascinating. Its the combination of excellent narration and a world completely foreign to me. I look forward to each new video and the journey you so graciously invite me to join. For what its worth, thank you for making these videos.
Thank you so much :-)
Chase Royell the same! It is truly an escape from life, I found the channel over a year ago and there are few notifications I look forward to as much as his. Don’t forget he has a page on fb so you can get bits on there too!
At my time of viewing there were four thumbs down for the video, presumably these were from four people who cannot turn in to that marina in that given space or maybe from people who don't like cheese 😂
Ahh yes, Cruising the Cut has a new video, It's going to be a good day.
LTA PRODUCTIONS I like to put RUclips on the big tv, pour a cup of tea and turn the sound up so I feel like I’m sitting on the boat. Very good days.
Stop the cruise. Almost out of cheese. Houston we have a problem. 👍😎😷😷
chris dono Send Gromit for more.
I'm from Wisconsin, America's Dairy Land, and we are known as cheese heads. We wear cuts of cheese on our heads while watching football (the US kind). Cheese gets our attention.
Remember when you were scared of rivers and weirs? Now you're out there zooming around with intrepid ease. What a long way you've come! Thanks for taking us along on your journey.
I htink that kamikaze swan knew exactly what he was doing ; surfing your bow wave for fun. 😉⛵
Bow wave?
A short interlude of sanity in the madness.
Yes Indeed!!
I always click on your videos as soon as I see the notification, can't miss an opportunity to relax with narrowboats, canals and nature
Glad you like them!
Same here
I remember when you were giddy about making 100K subscribers....now you're a veteran.
I had to laugh when you mentioned you needed cheese. I ran out of it yesterday and decided early this a.m. that I cannot go another day without it. Cheese lovers unite! 🧀
I'm running out of cheese Grommit, what a to-do.
I took a cheese sandwich to work the other day, here in the USA not a common thing. My co-workers were aghast. (Cheese pizza is a thing though). I picked up the habit of a cheese sandwich when I visited the UK & Ireland years ago. Always will remember a kind YHA host mother in Newcastle fixed me a sack lunch (the same her children got for the school day) for a hike. I’d gotten into town the day before after the shops closed. A frequent dinner while traveling was a cheese sandwich & a Knorr soup. I may add pickle the next time to really shock them.
It kind of makes me homesick. But I was born and raised here in Indiana, U.S. The countryside is so beautiful and relaxing. When you are done for the day, I’d imagine a little fire just to take the chill and bluster would be just the ticket.
The return of the jack... et. It's the puns that make this channel, for me. I do love a good pun.
CultureOfCritique di d you spot the “buoy oh buoy” one?
Your way of playing with words is very entetrtaining, even to those of us who don't have English as our native language.
Harking back to your 1st foray onto a river one notices how confident and intrepid you've become, and it warms the heart. Your seamanship, (or would it be canal man ship) is sturdy and true. Nelson would be proud!
Good heavens - short on cheese!
I know David - I don't think I'll be able to sleep until I know the other David has stocked up !! 😱😱😎
David Mills Perish the thought.
a Wallace & Gromit Apocalypse
Nice to see my boat “halcyon” at shardlow ....moored up a couple of weekends ago !
I think we leap-frogged each other a few times
CruisingTheCut ..yes we did, saw you on the coventry stuck on a ledge ? Also spoke to you when I was walking one day saying......are you the cruising on the cut bloke ? ....bet u get it regularly . Posted on a few sites I had seen you ! I went up to Loughborough then headed back to the Erewash before the floods hit ! Lovely clear canal ! ....still here.. stay safe
Return of the Jack-et! Love this channel. Another beautiful cruise
Your videos bring me so much happiness, I hope you enjoy making them as much as I enjoy watching them!
Glad you like them!
David you voice is soothing as a fireplace during the winter. Love viewing the boat traveling.
Nice one David. I would think being on a narrow boat on a river during bad weather could get very hairy. As far as running out of cheese, as far as I'm concerned that is the beginning of the apocalypse.
The plaintive ‘I’m running out of cheese’ was the saddest thing I’ve heard in a while lol. Hope you can get your hands on some dairylea triangles soon.
White water narrowboating... now there's an idea!!!!
One thing I always enjoy is your Editor's Eye for a title! You always bring a smile to my face with the word play. Now run and get some cheese!
David, the titles of your vlogs alone are worth the price of admission.
I'm proud of you, David, you have your priorities straight. A day without cheese is like a day without air.
Better send Grommet out for some fresh cheese!
You do like a good pun, don't you David? And . . . . . You're good at it. Top marks from Canada.
The swans are strong with you! :)
A spooky warehouse? Full of warewolves, perhaps?
My thoughts too.
Book Bear no those are in London.
Worse. Full of hungry swans!
Buoy oh Buoy, weir glad you posted this video, David, and I'm also glad that you like to make groan-worthy puns! Thanks and keep them coming!
David, your faith in fellow boaters is much greater than my faith in my fellow American drivers! Hope you got some flavorful cheese!
3:33 By the look of the scorched brickwork above the main door, there's been a fire at some stage in the spooky warehouse.
The puns are on another level 😂😂
And so is the cheese in the UK. Ever tried Stilton? Delicious stuff.
Another excellent adventure captain.......So interesting that your videos have the "ASMR" effect. Not sure if it is intentional
but somehow I always feel relaxed after watching. Please keep up the good work. Very Warm Regards from British Columbia, Canada.
Thanks David for another wellspoken vlog🙏❤️🇸🇪
I do enjoy your videos. That slightly panicked "running out of cheese" at 8:55 made me laugh! Keep it up and thank you!
I totally agree
I was feeling a bit down today and then magically you put up the best dose of medicine! Thanks, David. Keep safe, keep well, Chris.
Glad to help
Today’s handy hint : One visit to Shardlow many years ago, we begged an empty baked bean can ( catering size) from the kitchen @ the New Inn. Cut the top and bottom off and cut 2 x ’V’ shapes, one each side to make a very cheap (free) chimney top, easily manoeuvrable to stop the wind & rain (Ps. We did remove the label for non-advertising purposes) 🦆💕
Smoked beans is a new alternative !
Sharks, whales and mermaids, oh my! Exciting narrowboating! Wonderful video once again!
I live in Santa Fe, New Mexico and love cruising the cut.
David does an amazing job of making it interesting and very relaxing.
How about filming some quick visits into some of the beautiful small towns you go through ?
It would fun to see and learn more about the England you are going through.
Thank you! I only tend to show villages when they're particularly relevant to the canal eg Braunston. Other "British life" stuff is best done by other vlogs than this, I prefer to concentrate on canals and narrowboats.
That widebeam looks like an ocean liner next to the narrow boat!
A perfect video. These always allow me to drift away in my imagination and all of the sudden, I am also living on a narrowboat eating a cheese sandwich...
What's going on here Grommit, we're out of Wensleydale! A small but perfectly formed vlog David. As ever really informative, beautifully shot and the perfect antidote to the very wet weather we have right now. Stay safe!
RUclips recommended one of your videos to me and I ignored it because I wasn't interested in narrowboats. A few weeks later I had a nightmare where I desperately wanted to go on a narrowboat vacation, but nobody in the world - not even Google - knew what a narrowboat is. Now I have watched like half of your videos and will definitely go on a channel cruise once this bloody pandemic is over.
(I am not making this up. I swear.)
Nothing better than an episode of cruising the cut after a night on the beer to sort your head out .
You have a great voice and tone for storytelling.
Thank you
These vlogs make me homesick for places I’ve never been. Sigh. Stuck in the madness of the USA but planning my future back in the U.K. on a narrow boat. I hope that mermaid opportunity will still be available when I can get there!
Amazing how the river looks so much bigger from the front camera, enjoyed that.
Cheese crisis avoided thank goodness.
I was just about to eat dinner when I saw the video up, thought to myself, hold on old chap, don't this brit always go on about cheese sandwiches? So I thought to myself (once again) well, lets give em a try, see what its like. Class report says cheese sandwiches are good eating while watching narrowboating video's.
Cheers!
Another relaxing video ,
Glad you enjoyed it
@@CruisingTheCut I do have a burning question though whats the pros and cons with a pump or cassette wc ? I would have thought pumping would be somewhat I dunno just easyer ? rather than a wash and rinse out thingy cheers
See ruclips.net/video/rFoTmThNJeA/видео.html
I've never wanted visit the UK , well until I found your 'vlogs channel,' now I want to sell everything and move there and on a narrow boat. Oh, if I was only a few years younger. Keep up the great work.
THIS MAN IS STILL A LEGEND
Turtle speed great change of pace , really enjoy all the programs
I thought this was going to be a grate episode. Turns out it was merely excellent!
Ok... now you've got me so hooked on your vlogs... I eagerly devoured this one only to feel like 10 min is not enough! I WANT MORE!!! Oh.... sorry please excuse the sudden outburst.... thanks again for 10 min of distraction from this worlds craziness ...... love it.
5:20 it appears that most fiberglass boats there don't seem to know the concept of waxing fiberglass! They are all old and crusty gel coat. While you see some of that here, 95% of the fiberglass boats in the US seem to have a good coating of wax and a nice shiny gel coat! I always wax my 40' cruiser each year. It gets a bit tricky as its in the water all the time as well except for a quick haul out for lower unit drive maintenance. Keep up the good videos, enjoy them each time a new one pops up in my feed!
Yes I don't know why so many GRP boats are left to look tired :-(
Good video, you make steering a Narrow boat and producing a video blog look so deceptively easy which it is not. You time in broadcast news shows. I enjoy it.
I really enjoy your commentary.
Whenever she overhears your vlogs, my partner rolls her eyes and says: "You just like him because he sounds like you." True enough I suppose, but my accent (I don't have one!) is what is known as mid-Atlantic, so I'm told, though I really think it was all the word play and puns my partner was talking about.
My suspicion is that cheese doesn't attract mermaids. I think you need a tin of tuna for that. The fresh water harpy might eat something a bit more manky like carp or smelt, so be careful what you wish for. They probably have outrageously bad breath.
Oh your hilarious!!! Lol..😊
Loved 1960 garages they used to wipe your Windows to live your vlog xx
And check your radiator or engine oil levels, or offer you RedX.
I know perfectly why I do avoid big cities whenever I visit UK.. but still, I was wondering where all that "Good ol' England" has gone... the answer is: To the canals! :)
I can not believe you and I have been together for 2amd some videos. Incredible.. it’s more like I walk down the street and meet up with you and you tell me a story of your boat adventures. Hear is to over 200 more videos
Howdly doodly neighbour, nice videos again, you are honestly are the king of the canals lol, stay safe
Thank you kindly
Another enjoyable video David! You are very talented at editing, narrating and filming. Keep up the great work! So happy to hear that you called the cooling towers what they were, cooling towers! So many people think they are nuclear reactors, made my day.
I often find a re-watch of David's VLOGs a must.
Wise advice
I was shocked when you said you were running short on cheese. Oh the humanity!!!!!!!!! But I'm sure you restocked. Another nice video David.
Sweet a relaxing narrow boat video before going to work this morning thank you for the great videos
I love the look of heavy, dark clouds. I enjoy a good thunderstorm, provided I'm not out in it😉 Wonderful video as usual!
Whenever I eat a cheese sandwich, I always think of you David!
Ferrhevins sake David! Simply cannot run out of cheese. Red Alert. Red 🚨!!! 😁Loved your short n sweet adventure. 👍👏🏻😁Stay well.
Thanks 👍

Sirs;
On 15 September of this year I sent in a suggestion to add fanfares at the Fradley Junction Lock. I thank you for the extraordinarily diligent efforts you are making to institute those suggestions. However in the apparent haste to get cracking on the project, you neglected to send me a reply.
I don't wish to add to your burdens in instituting that important project, but I did want to also bring to your attention the possibility of providing another short fanfare at Bridge Number 1 on Trent and Mersey Canal. As there are no lock-keepers stationed at this bridge, let me suggest an automated system, with an infrared beam detecting passing boats, triggering a rousing chorus of "Rule Britannia!" through several loud-speakers. I'm sure that you can find some nearby residents who would readily volunteer to do basic upkeep to keep the system operational.
Sincerely,
David Johns
Good to see you averted the cheese-shortage crisis. Got to keep the priorities straight.
Another great video, and you help me decide what's for dinner, grill cheese sandwich haha
Yes, I think that's a good idea.
Wow never thought I'd see my childhood village in a video, I've walked that stretch of canal many a time when I was younger with grandparents.
Another excellent vlog. Thanks very much.
Glad you enjoyed it
From central ILLINOIS in the U.S.A. love watching your channel mate!!!! Cheers!!!!
Thanks 👍
Swan : I was just trying to deliver fresh cheese :D
Love it. That's where we started and ended from. Happy memories.
HI...(Arkansas here) The term in the U.S. is life jacket. So enjoy your vlogs... always learnng new interesting terms. Almost out of cheese, you narrowly avoided a disaster 🤣🤣🤣
You ought to have an emergency kit aboard containing a bit of aged Stilton, some mature Double Gloucester, and a Wensleydale! I know you prefer the mature cheddar, but if you come across extreme cases the above will recall them to life.
That looks absolutely grand we were heading up there but recent heavy rain has put paid to that so maybe next year now if the chaos subsides. Stay safe David and for the love of God man pay more attention to the cheese cupboard , it's vital.
Your a true master maneuvering your narrow boat ! 😃🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Yes, cheese so revives the soul. Indeed, Blessed Are The Cheese Makers.
Thoroughly enjoy watching each episode!
Tell us more about the cheeses available in the UK.
Do a Cheese Episode.
With all the cheese he eats he needs a dog named Grommet 😀😹😹👍
I think “I’m running out of cheese!” is the single most perilous moment ever captured on the vlog. Lovely video as always David.
Yes! Hahaha. Thank you
I can live for short periods without cheese, but peanut butter is my life blood.
Another lovely trip....grandson would be over the moon to have a ride on steam engine going round the house. We would never get him inside! Thanks again....see you later!
You can tell Autumn is coming... the bow camera spiders will be moving inside the boat!
Kinda reminds me of the W.C. Fields line (which i'm sure I will misquote, but it'll be pretty near)....."Was crossing the desert, realised I had forgotten the bottle opener. We had to survive for a week on food and water"
Thanks as always for your post. Keeping track of your travels always brightens my Covid-isolated day. How well does your craft do at going against river currents? I recall your previous references to the 4 mph top speed.
Beautiful. Thanks for sharing. I hope the mermaids show up.
Loved it, thank you
David, you should ask the cheese industry for sponsorship in form of unlimited cheddar supplies. Your hypnotically soothing voice caused that whenever I sit down to watch one of your videos (usually do so after a long day translating technical and legal documents), my until now unawakened and undiscovered love for cheddar sandwiches (I also add a sunny-side-up egg) turns into a craving and I just have to prepare a couple of those and enjoy them while watching. I actually had to go and buy some at the local grocery store today as after reading the title of this video, I realised in utter horror that I too have run out of cheddar.
I must admit I am confused as to why this series gets so many views but I am part of it, when I started watching a few months back I binged about 100 videos in a row. I just keep coming back its like chill.
Yes Its addicting in a very pleasant way...😊❤
Learned a lot and laughed. Thanks a lot. We rented a boat last year and should have watched your videos. When the news is too much we watch your videos and listen to your dulcet voice.
"I'm running out of cheese!" no! call the cheddar police. no sandwich is complete without it!
9:42 thanks for showing my old boat! Not seen her for a while... (the one with the yellow and red markings hiding behind the big white widebeam)!
