- We just got off the Norwegian Breakaway in February and I'm sharing the 5 best and worst features of the ship! This is my personal review of after having sailed several NCL ships. It's a fantastic ship for families however there were a few drawbacks.
Please leave comments below of your thoughts of the Breakaway.

When she talks about more people than usual falling ill on the cruise and you see it was shot in March 2020 :O
Take this cruise in the fall..i just got back from breakaway today..half-full so comfy perfect amount of people
Great to know info!
You certainly did help me. Sure hope we get to sail end of May 🦠
I hope so too!! We are scheduled to leave at the end of March. What a crazy cruise time it is!
Destined Journey Be well and have a great time 😎 🚢
Thank you so much! We'll be sailing on Breakaway October 2021.
Us too Joe. Oct. 31 2021 to Bermuda!
Same here!
Thanks for the info. Getting on in 5 days!
Brenda Evans Enjoy!! Let me know how it goes.
@@DestinedJourney Will do. We debated on cancelling, but I talked to a nurse friend of mine that helped me off the fence. :-)
Brenda Evans So I’m not concerned about corona, but a little worried about missing ports or getting quarantined. Are you concerned at all about that?
@@DestinedJourney no we aren't worried about Norwegian's island since they haven't reported any issues and only NCL ships stop there. Not concerned about Jamaica or Grand Cayman either. Have heard that Cozumel had a case of Coronavirus, but not positive about that. We've been to Cozumel twice within the year, so we may just stay onboard that day. Not worrying about quarantine if needed.
O'Sheehan's also offered complimentary breakfast. It was a smaller menu but it had all the basics.
I always forget about them for breakfast!
Great review, thank you. Gives me more info about this ship.
Glad it was helpful!
I've cruised several times on rcl and ncl, never had issues with cleanliness or got sick. I don't do hot tubs or pools either though. Just the thought of people drinking all day sitting in those hot tubs grosses me rite out
To be honest, I've never understood soaking in a hot tub on an 85 degree day.
Did you make a decision regarding whether you will be cruising or not?
Also, does your small steamer get taken away? I’ve seen it’s on their banned list
Sarah Candito As of today we can cancel however we DO really want to go! We’re going to wait it out and see how things transpire over the next couple of weeks, since we have until 48 hrs prior to decide.
I read that about the steamer so I’m probably going to leave it home. 😭
When was your cruise? “Crowded” can be relative to the time of year.
The ship was more than likely sold out but we’ve been on other sold out NCL ships that did not feel as crowded. We sailed the Breakaway twice. The first before Covid which was sold out and felt like it. Even more so than other sold out cruises. After Covid it was half capacity and wonderful!!! If sailing an NCL megaship I would go with the Bliss class if it was high season.
There are always lines on cruises at the bar due to prepaid free at sea. Perhaps you should use a more upscale line.
Which line do you suggest?
As to the overcrowding at the bars on the ship aren’t there waiters/waitresses roaming around asking you if you’d like a drink ?
There are but the area gets so congested it often takes longer to get noticed that way rather than standing in line.
Kids stuff might not be open yet! I will be on the Breakaway 27Nov22 the first was November 2015
I'm going the week after you. 😁
Have to agree..just sailed March 27th to Apr 3 of 2022 out of New Orleans on Breakaway. Only had around 2200 on board, but no white wine, except for the vinegar testing dry. We made mistake of going on spring break too....too many kids. Locations where it should be adult only. People still showed up and then we're offended the way some people were dancing or speaking....NO KIDS MEANS NO KIDS...
Probably going to look at future cruises on the older smaller ships...less activities for kids..therefore less likely to have them on board.
The Shanghai Noodle Bar was great...wished we had eaten there more...
Overall..good trip..
I'm doing this cruise in December. Beginning, so before school is out.
We love the older smaller NCL ships!!!
Going on Breakaway Oct. 31, 2021. 13th cruise (2nd with NCL). Did they remove Margaritaville with the refurbish in 2018? What did they put in it's place? Thanks for the info. :)
I thought Margaritaville was a nice quite place to have breakfast. Most people did not know it was there.
American Diner replaced Margaritaville. It's listed as a specialty restaurant. If it was complimentary I would probably try it.
Is the moderno breakfast free?
Yes Ma'am!
Is the Moderno breakfast free??
Yes!! Lunch is as well. Garden Cafe (standard buffet) is quite small so the offer a few other options. Moderno pizza is great too.
I only drink wine as well but this is a cruise ship so I’m fine with that.
Been on the ship twice, not really a fan 😓
What was a turn off for you?
What is your favorite NCL ship?
Escape. Large but great layout. We like the small shops too but the Escape overall.
Don’t care about no wine bar, kids pool (less kids the better). Picky, picky.
I have no idea what you’re saying! Lol!
