Of course, all of the permanent secretaries of all the divisions of British government agree that there should be more women in the Civil Service...on principle.

They will need at least one board to review the implications of such a decision and in the fullness of time, perhaps provide a referral to another ministerial department.

For those of you who are saying that she is sexist, well spotted. That was the point of the joke.
This series was filmed and broadcasted to the best of my knowledge in the 1980s, this was a time when the feminist movement had just secured employment rights for women by law 6 to 7 years earlier. The Parliament of that time, whilst lead by a woman, margeret thatcher, was still a male dominated club. This show even made fun of male sexist attitudes towards women on how they shouldn't or couldn't be trusted with anything more than menial tasks. It was just highlighting and pointing fun at some of the sexist attitudes of the time, including the ones the woman made.

I think Fosphor has mistaken this woman, a cameo in Yes Minister, with Dorothy who was a recurring character in Yes Prime Minister. Dorothy was a political advisor who Jim kind of inherited in his new post and she was rarely wrong, deliberately showing the potential of women in politics, yes, but also to make her a realistic foil to Humphrey.

I spent forty years in UK public service and I can absolutely assure viewers that Yes Prime/Minister is a thoroughly accurate depiction. Endless pointless meetings, money wasted at every turn on silly initiatives, staggeringly complex decision making systems that actually work against decisions being made (obviously) and huge rewards for those that climb to the top by ensuring that little really changes. Some ex-colleagues and I had a get together recently and between us we genuinely believed we had achieved far less 'real' benefit for the public than the local road sweeper. Too many career managers, way too few staff that actually do anything except create work - Sir Humphrey would be well pleased :-)

Also most Women's meetings are about deciding when to have a Meeting about whether there should be a Meeting on something or other....great deal of talk, not so much action.
They are, mostly, VERY selective in what kind of Equality they want. You won't see many of them down the mines,in a sewer,up a 200 foot building cleaning windows either because they are too dirty or dangerous.

Of course, when women were brought into the labor force, salaries dropped so dramatically that we now have a situation were both men and women have to work fulltime in order to maintain a household and have children.
And then have to pay others to take care of the children . . .
But since education and daycares are also mostly run by women, feminists don't argue that point too much...
