      Unfortunately in the US it is worse since Healthcare is so expensive. One of the biggest reasons families go bankrupt here is because of high medical bills. I was in the ER for three hours for my medical condition , received saline drip, and was sent a bill that was just shy of $17,000. Luckily I have health insurance and only had to pay $175, but just imagine if I didn't have insurance. My husband had kidney stones and was taken from work by ambulance to the hospital. A FIVE MINUTE ride in the ambulance was $3485 out of pocket, because it was deemed not covered by our insurance.

People adapt and the survival instincts kicks in. Brave little things. There is something wrong when some people have so much and other cant afford a breakfast. If you watch those 'sweet sixteen' programmes with these awful spoilt brats throwing fits and crying that their idiot father has brought them the wrong colour car, then you see the integrity of these kid grateful for a meal it puts things in perspective. Those rich kids parents should be ashamed. Their sense of entitlement is sickening. These kids surviving will be stronger, more rounded adults. It is nauseating. The first and only one I watched showed a girl throwing a tantrum because the brand new car she got for her 16th birthday, was not the right colour - that was the end for me - those are the type of kids that will murder their parents in order to get their hands on their inheritance quicker - cannot wait forever until their parents would die of old age!

      elijah pink I agree wholeheartedly with you. People recognize the pitfalls of being poor or just not having an overabundance of money and things.
      However, many don't recognize the pitfalls of being extremely wealthy something I have read up on and learned secondhand by working for a wealthy businessman. Many of their children grow up lacking such things as integrity, empathy, ambition, strength of character, etc.
      On a blog site Quora someone asked a question about personal knowledge of someone whose parents were extremely wealthy. From the multitude of responses I learned a large percentage of wealthy children had absolutely no ambition to strive for anything in life because everything was handed to them, they lookied down on others who worked despite the fact they had accomplished nothing and we're living off the proceeds of what others had done and achieved nothing on their own.
      One of the commentators on Quora who (if I recall correctly) discussed wealthy Saudi princes who came to study at an American university. He recalled that pretty much all had no interest in learning, and lacked curiosity and ambition to do anything. Why? Because they didn't have to. Coming from families that had millions it quite simply was not necessary. That drive to achieve and prosperly and personally that others have who are not as fortunate moneywise, did not burn in their soul to achieve.
      All that to say, there can be a downside to being very, very rich.

      I live in Hampstead Garden Suburb in London. I shop at the local Waitrose, the Sainsburys up the road in Golders Green and the Tesco in neighbouring Finchley. My experience is that the rudest people are found in this Waitrose. They push, shove, don't say excuse me and generally act like the world is theirs alone. The ones in Sainsburys vary, but the friendliest people I have found have been in the Tescos, shoppers I mean not the staff. Having money is not a pecursor to good manners and good neighbourliness, and being poor isn't a precursor to negative social behaviour. The children in this documentary were all intelligent, insightful little people, who given the opportunity through the security their parents are offering and a good education, if they get into decent high schools, will go on to become phenomenal people. And unlike the dross that is graduating from eton and the like, they will be well-educated people who have a social conscience and understand the importance of a society where we look out for one another.

      Exactly. Because of the lazy people wanting to abuse the system through fraud the restrictions, regulations, criteria, etc the people that really do need and are deserving get caught up in all that. If fraud were punished severely the bureaucracy wouldn't need so many restrictions. Today's world people have no sense of self pride and pulling their own weight but instead look for a hand out everywhere they can. Worse yet so many EXPECT free homes, food, everything!

    • @katherinemorelle7115
      @katherinemorelle7115 5 лет назад +12

      But even if the parents are lazy (which none these parents are), why should the children suffer? And that’s the thing with welfare, it isn’t really about whether or not the adults deserve it. It’s about making sure that kids have enough to eat.
      And as someone who relies on welfare myself, it’s shameful. We all get lumped in with the lazy ones- I’m on a disability pension (as I’m mostly bedbound), my younger brother is my live in carer (he receives a carer’s pension), and I get a small extra amount for my daughter (as I’m a single parent). It can be difficult, though it’s slightly easier for us, as my brother and I pool our money.
      But living like this is hard. I certainly never planned on becoming disabled when I had my daughter 11 years ago. Although I was single from the start, I knew I’d be okay as I had pretty decent prospects work wise. I was an office manager full time while also studying law part time before I had to give it all up. And I feel ashamed that I have to rely on taxpayers paying for me, when six years ago I had a good job that supported us, and also great hope for a future career. It’s all gone now.

    • @nunyabuisness7552
      @nunyabuisness7552 5 лет назад +2

      When there is a legitimate reason for needing financial help there should be no shame. Unless of course a person has intentionally put themselves into that needy situation. Example: A person who full well knows they cannot support a child should not intentionally bring a child into the world. People who can support their own child but have fallen victim to an ailment or disability is entirely different because it could not have been foreseen. Depending on what you call "social Programs" which I equate to money spent on people that did not pay in that money is approximately 35% of the US annual budget. When a country spends a third of it's budget on social programs there is a very serious problem! Either there is blatant fraud or the programs are paying for so many things it shouldn't or a third of society has faced an epidemic that has rendered them less than fully functional citizens or a combination of these. Regardless of the reason for a third of the budget spent on social programs it's obvious it cannot be sustained and will absolutely cause massive debt that ultimately will bankrupt a country. No country has spent itself into prosperity but every country that has ever fallen has done so either through losing a war/revolution or because it has spent itself into a bankruptcy! Something has to change but ignorant people care not for the future of their children but only what they can get for free for themselves.....

My parents did everything to make sure we kept a roof over our heads, my father worked a horrible job he hated but did it for us. I solely blame this situation on the government. I saw a documentary a couple of years ago about the £200 winter fuel allowance that pensioners receive, it showed that even millionaire pensioners were also receiving the allowance even though they didn't need it, one person was the multi millionaire Peter stringfellow owner of the most famous gentlemens club spearmint rhino, he received the £200 allowance that year as he just turned a pensioner, he called up the benefits system and told them that he wanted to return that money and that he didn't need it and to give it to someone that really needed it, but they told him that he was entitled to it and they couldn't take it back so he gave it to charity. It just goes to show that the government gives to people that don't need it and those that are in need of desperate help get pushed aside, disgusting.

If we're not able to make ends meet, we rely on root crops like sweet potatoes and dried fish. The problem is some of us particularly those who live in the mountainous area don't get much education so people who only volunteer to teach are their only way. Lucky if you're living in the plains.

BUT, If everyone listened just a tad more closer... They all said THEY SLOWLY GONE POOR... They haven't just been poor all this freaking time... They had money before and it slowly decreased due to surprise pop ups in life... Like the father of the girl with leukemia... He was gardener and was working a good on the money job... but since his daughter got diagnosed... and needed more help with things, he had to cut the job to shorter hours... causing them to go poor... Same as the "black girl" Someone gotten sick and had to go to a hospital. which means she had to live with her Nan... causing her Nan to work shorter hours... and grow poor... Thank you for saying this! Towards the beginning of my time in high school my family finally moved "up" to where we were safely in the upper-middle class. $60k a year annual income, pretty nice for a family of four in the Deep South.
      Then, my mother got cancer and my sister had some health issues with her epilepsy. We almost had to file for bankruptcy after my mother died. I was using my summer job income to pay for electricity, which was shut off along with our water more than once in that summer she passed away. Not just medical expenses, funeral too! Death is really expensive.
      There was nothing we could have done. We had savings and health insurance, but one chemo session bled that dry.
      Also, if you don't have enough money for health expenses, how on Earth are you gonna have enough as a woman to pay for a gyno exam to get birth control pills/IUD/shot?!

She had no choice but to grow up and accept that she doesn't have the same privileges as other children have. Growing up in such terrible environments does that you, it matures you. Look how self aware she is, how she carries herself, how she helps her mum. I'm absolutely moved by this child and have cried quite a lot just by her words and the way she carries herself and her attitude towards things. Say what you want about Susan’s employment choices, there is no question about the strong, intelligent and compassionate daughters she has raised.❤️ All these kids have hearts of gold and that comes down to their parents and Carers. My heart breaks for these families and all those struggling in similar conditions. A hard slap of reality for some of us that, through pure luck, don’t know what it’s like to have to go hungry or worse watch your kids go hungry.

    im sorry but ive seen so many documentaries of morbidly obese people in the UK that get financially supported (gastric bypass operation also fully funded) by the government even when some of them still buy so much food. how come these poor families cannot get the same support? :( how does that work?

      That's the UK benefit system for you. They don't care about you in the UK unless have money and you pay a lot of tax. If your poor or unemployed your screwed.
      To have children going hungry in the United Kingdom is so ridiculous. The gov are too busy spending money on roads we don't need and bombs we don't want.

    The gap between rich and poor in this country is absolutely disgusting
    But like they say in this film, it could happen to anyone of us so gratitude is so important.

      @@IIII...... or maybe we make millionaires and large companies pay their taxes so it takes the pressure off of lower income families?

      @@IIII...... hmmmmmmm, it’s almost like there’s a fundamental problem here with how businesses operate, and it’s those on the bottom that pay the price

      @@IIII...... okay, so if the tax is low, working classes get low pay to the point where they can’t afford basic amenities, AKA heat or meat. But, if we raise the taxes to handle this, one of the possibilities is people losing their jobs, because companies don’t want to lose profits by paying them more. By that logic, they lose both ways, and the upper classes remain unaffected by their suffering. Either way, due to the choices of powers out with their control, they suffer

    The little girl living with her Nana has a awesome attitude! She is going to be just fine with an attitude like hers. She has a beautiful voice! I am sure she got such a good attitude from her awesome Nana!
    The girl with the cancer - her, her dad and brothers situation is just heart breaking! The Dad is SO loving and both kids are very understanding about their situation.
    The 2 girls and their mom - also breaks my heart! No matter what the mom says she doesn't want to be doing this - hence she drinks! I am so happy for her & her girls she is striving for a better life :)
