Mark Knopler is a National Treasure.
As an Ex- Militairy Man , I can honestly say that that performance moved me to Tears . Mr Knopfler , Sir , you are truly a Legend and Master of your Craft .
When my son in law was killed, there was a bugler at both ends of the chapel. They played taps then my daughter was presented with our flag. A military service is the very saddest in the world. I had taps played at my mother's funeral too. That sound stays with you forever. My son in law was 21yrs. Old. He wasn't k.i.a.. it was a horrible accident on base. He had just re upped and so had my daughter.
Have you listened to his Brothers in Arms.
It maybe his way of calling the people of the world to unit against the evil war mongers. Brothers n arms.
Well said. Me too.
Thank you.
Thank you Mark!
Today is 25 April 2020, ANZAC DAY. Aussies and New Zealanders have the opportunity to take time to remember them. Forget semantics. LEST WE FORGET!
Lukim Wara Amen to that.
My admiration for Mark Knopfler just went up , if that's even possible.

In this day and age when nobody honors it I am glad that Knoppfler did. Says much about him.
Knophler is one of the greatest of all time and a class act. I feel fortunate to have grown up with his music. Love from Canada.
With you there matey
'One of the greatest of all time' eh?
Class act?
Well, I agree, he's good, very good and far better than I'll ever be,
but not not this good, this classy nor the greatest...

Beautiful, really emotional. After 102 years, I’ve finally found the resting place of my Gt Gt Uncle Reg from The War Graves Commission. I’ll be the 1st family member ever to visit his grave in France, as soon as it’s possible to travel again!!
Amazing. I am sure it will be both joyful and sombre, but what and experience. Hats off for your perseverance. Blessings from Canada.
something so simple, yet reminds us of the men and women who died for this country. God bless them.

No women died for their country
My Great Uncle was in the Northumberland Fusiliers, in WW1. He survived the Battle of the Somme. My Mother donated his medals to the NF's museum, in Alnwick Castle.
my grandfather born in 1885 served in WW1 I have a medal he received for his service. Grampa passed in 1986 at 101 years old. I'm determined to get older than him before I kick the bucket LOL, so my bucket list has turning 102 on it

This moved me today , I wish there was a tab for it
He did it justice, however to an ex Military man and the veteran of 54 Anzac Days nothing is as soulful as the Bugle
ruclips.net/video/McCDWYgVyps/видео.html - for you Sir!
I don't think Mark plays the bugle
@@connellylawcoprusjuris4408 Apparently he Blows His Own Trumpet though........
@@crash1raf When you're that talented, you can.
I'm a former Canadian military musician. While I agree with you, I also always think about the audience. This rendition reaches many people who wouldn't respond to a bugle call, but can certainly relate to guitar music. In the same way that there is great American patriotism behind Jimi Hendrix's version of The Star Spangled Banner. And if the version on guitar reaches the minds of more people, that is a good thing. Thanks for your service. Remember.
" Nobody does it better " ! The man is a true phenomena !
What a legend Mark Knopfler is. That rendition of The Last Post is just simply amazing. Love that interpretation of a well known Remembrance Sunday piece. Lest we forget.

The Last Post, possibly the most moving and emotional sound of all. It conveys grief, respect, and hope, all in a few moments of self evaluation, and determination to do better for oneself and everyone around you. Gratitude, and Farewell to those no longer with us. We will try to make your sacrifice meaningful and memorable. R.I.P.
Mark. Over here in the states we all love you.
In a vase beside my bed, stands alone a poppy red.
Made by hand with love and care, to remember those no longer there. Strangers though they were to me, they gave their lives to keep us free. With this in mind as I lay in bed, I'll always remember the glorious dead.
Martin Walker lovely verse Martin.
Very moving ❤️
What is the title of that poem?
@@idleonlooker1078 It's just "Poppy Red". I wrote it after I'd been to see the poppy exhibition at the Tower of London a few years ago. I was fortunate to receive one of the hand made poppies from the exhibition as a birthday present from my wife. That stands at the side of my bed.
@@martinwalker3497 Thank you so much, it is a very poignant piece of poetry: thank you for sharing it. Also I must say how lovely that poppy is: a reminder of those fallen, but also, as a treasured gift from your wife. All the best! 😊👍
This was a great honor to hear him play , Mark is an artist that taught himself how to play a guitar. He was outstanding with Dire Straits especially on the Brothers in Arms album, it's the music that comes from the the heart. From a military veteran.....thank you brother 👍😉✌

He's self-taught? An amazing man.
I could not imagine this heart-rending call played on anything but bugle, but if anyone could do it Knopfler could. He did!
Keith Urban also does it!
This is good, but I do believe it sounds better when played by a "trumpet playing band."
@@TheLonghornDad Yes that is probably right but that is what you are used to hearing?
@@happyolddude I think TheLonghornDad is referring to the lyrics from Sultans of Swing by Dire Straits 🙂

The Last Post is associated with so much pain and loss for me, it brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it even in public and at remembrance services. Some pain runs too deep it will never heal, all we can hope is to manage and live on where others have fallen, Many today don't know or understand the price of peace, I hope they never need to learn.
thank you sir
As an ex-military man I have heard the Last Post many times. This is by far the best.
Mark is a genius. His guitar skills and compassion know no bounds. Rock on brother.

They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
Nor the years condemn must affect Vietnam veterans... Shame on us for forgetting their sacrifice.
Lest We Forget.
I used to give this promise at the end of our Toc H meetings years ago, after pronouncing the word LIGHT!
And they met the kharma of mass murderers....fuck thr queen
Ok...bravery. Thats one side of the Medaille. The other side is a big wy.
Real. Honest. The way he always is.
Mark's music does exactly what music should; it evokes emotion. At the funerals of my daughter and son, the theme from 'Local Hero' was played. No other tune - or musician - can bring out the feeling of 'coming home' so perfectly.
This man continues to amaze me...
That sound, that voice, that tribute, as efficient as it gets
Best guitarist ever bar none and there is a hell of a lot of them.
I agree completely. . . with an honorable mention to Buckethead (an instrumental solo guitarist who leaves me breathless). Next time you are surfing the web and want some background music put his tracks "Aunt Susie" and "Soothsayer" on -- be curious to know what you thought.
@@brucefreadrich1188 Will have a look thanks for that.Would give my right arm to play like Knophler or even Chuck Berry. Then again wouldnt be able to play one handed would i?
@@richardtodd6181 And you'd have no hands if you played with both
that bar may be debated for years... though this is a special presence and perfect play by MK, its perfect...
Thank you - respect, for both your talent and those who fell in any war.
Only Knopfler's touch gets this. Its chilling.
Lovely tribute. Made it all about the integrity of the last post and not about him. Shows the measure of the man. RIP Fusiliers

Very moving to hear that great track
Brothers in arms is one off my favorite songs...
Amazing piece off music,amazing lyrics...
I've listened to Brothers in Arms over and over. The movie We Were Soldiers has a song in Scottish translated into English. Viet Nam.
I play to remember my mates in the Falklands ... lost three :-(
Same here. Was involved in the Falklands, ex RN. Lost a few oppos.
Very moving so many lost in that Terrible war.
Thank you so much Mr. Mark Freuder Knopler. While my great grandfather fought in both of the Boer Wars for his Queen (Victoria), he was a Geordie, and I generously accept your show of appreciation for all of GB's war vets. Wonderfully and respectfully done. And here I am, 55 years a Yank now. But GB is were it all began for me. Thank you once more.
Genuinely good thanks Mark.
I had to play this on a bugle at sunset, when the ensign was being lowered at my school, on a square rigger! I am from Northumberland, my mate John Sharp went to school with the Knopfler brothers.
Just beautiful moved me to tears.🇬🇧
This is a master at his craft few guitarists could match him
Thank you Mark.......You can see the emotion in His Face and fighting back the tears....
Played as a tribute to every serviceman and woman who gave their lives for their country in all wars and battles since time began. Mark played with true feelings. Thank you.

Thank you Mark. Moving and focused. Your finger picking technique really suits this tune. Impeccable tone, heart rending sustain and pacing, a perfect ringing reverb that evokes the bugle resonating in a square or stadium. The way you used a slide up to the last note was an especially perfect touch. Frankly I didn’t think this could be pulled off. (Sorry that wasn’t supposed to be a joke!)
