Over 11 years... And this show still retains all its impact, and this AMV still captures its essence so damn well. To all those who care, may Madoka be with you.
It only took a quarter million views before someone saw the real message behind this AMV. All this business with magical girls in despair is really just a backdrop for the deeper allegorical messages of delicious foodstuffs. The song is called cosmic love and what better represents otherworldly affections then bunned beef and frozen creams.
+Nemezja This was the first time I watched this AMV and I have to say...Now I know why people say this is the best Madoka AMV. The video that introduced me to Florence and the Machine back in 2012, every time I heard her songs on the radio I'd be reminded of Madoka Magica and this AMV. Incredible how the world changed since that time.
I still think about this AMV every time I hear this song... I've seen Florence live in concert multiple times and thought, in the thrill of the moment during Cosmic Love, "ah yes, that really good Madoka AMV"
This AMV was the entire reason I watched Madoka (without regret). Die hard Sailor Moon fan but I will say this is one of the single greatest AMVs ever. Keep at it, please.
That part at 1:27 where the strikes of Kyouko's spear match up perfectly with the beats of the song just gives me chills every time. Like the whole bloody thing is amazing but that bit there is the reason I keep coming back to this video.
I appreciate how the collaborators interpreted the song not to be just another sappy love song. Yes, there is some pain and broken feelings in romances. But I like to think that the song talks about how suffering destroys those around us and how we ignore our sacrifice to save others. This amv has a more adult understanding that matches amazingly with what the show deals with.
Even after all this time, I can't get over how tragic these characters are. I know it ended up okay for them, but that doesn't change what they had to go through. I can't figure out which character was the most tragic.
That's the easy answer. She's the most tragic on the surface, but when I dig deeper and feel more, I really can't tell who is the most tragic. (Homura is my favourite, though.)
What about Mami? She didn't have any real choice about becoming a magical girl, and from the moment she started, she was alone. Just when the prospects are looking up and she knows she won't have to be alone any more, she gets cocky and fails spectacularly. :'(
And Kyoko. After her depressing beginning as a magical girl, she spends her life being ruthless and angry, and upon finally finding something to care about again, it's torn away from her, and she gives up her life just to give Sayaka the tiniest bit of peace.
Holy crap this is simply amazing, I'm not surprised in the least that this won all those awards. The song choice, the editing, everything just perfect. Thank you for bringing this into this world. It's people like you that prove that AMVs can be amazing and artful. Amazing work keep doing what your doing and being awesome.

This is still one of my favorite AMVs! Just, everything about it is wonderful. And this AMV introduced me to Florence and the Machine, so it has that extra factor of why I love it.
The sheer effort & master craftmanship of this AMV - I have not seen comparable ANYWHERE. Madoka Magica will always have a place in my heart, however sad a feeling it gives me, but sometimes a tragic storyline is what we all need to remind us we are human. This AMV evokes all the emotion the series brought out in 12 episodes & you deserve all the accolades for achieving that in 4 MINUTES! The effort it took to make this, people know... and I am glad to be one of them who have seen this.
You must watch it! Its only 12 episodes that are only half hour long! If you get into it fast then it shouldn't take you more than a day when you find the time! :)
it will pretty much only take 6 hours. I know it is actually quite a while but all you really need to take a day off somewhere in your weekend and you are set :D
This video completely summed up all the themes in this anime... Friendship, Deceit, Love, and Sacrifice... This anime was pure perfect and will always be in my list of best anime of all time. If you have not seen this anime, you should. It will change your life.
I think you should know, that even though it's been 5 years, this is still one of my all time favorite AMV's. I first saw it at AX and looked it up as soon as we were home. Every time I hear the song I think about this AMV. The timing and the scenes you use... everything here is PERFECT.
I absolutely love this anime just finished watching the whole show yesterday, watched it all in one night, I loved it :D I cried so much, it's definitely an epic anime and one of my major fav's now! My fav characters where Mami and Homura :D
I think what makes this AMV really work is the song has these heavy, close together drum beats, and then no drums, frequently, and the singer makes her voice extra emphatic on the drumbeats. The video managed to match quick cuts of traumatic bits to those parts, and space longer cuts over the bits in between. Really deft. Also gave Mami prominence she doesn't usually get, and managed to really capture the pathos and drama behind her in particular, so it was in the key of Mami
Agreed. It's a real shocker if you start watching the anime without knowing anything about it. I already knew a few things about the show before i watched it, but I was still blown away with what happened.
This video here. This one here, yes this exact AMV. This video is the sheer reason i watched this show and made it my favorite anime of all time. Thank you for the unforgettable memories.
This AMV showed me this anime for the first time. My dad showed me this amv and I thought it was just a magical girl anime so I watched it. Man did my jaw dropped at the ending. Tears where shed from this anime. This is truly a masterpiece of all times.
this amv reminds me of how i felt after i watched madoka, having never actually really liking an anime before, and ending up feeling like i had watched the best, most heartrending thing ever.
A random thought popped into my head the other day, what if Walpurgisnacht was really Madoka. What if after she found out what Homura did at the end of Rebellion sent her into such despair that she became Walpurgisnacht...
I don't mean to be rude but WTF? we know Madoka is about multiple universes but your theory is improbable, since the episode 10 we know madoka's witch form is grimhield gretchen. A witch can change some details in different timelines (like octavia) but it remains the same at the end.
Remember how they tell us that magical girls have lived throughout human history and have been in part responsible for the growth and salvation of our people as great heroes and influential people? I think thats the right track to be on when guessing the identity of Walpurgisnacht. I have always assumed that since they insinuate she's incredibly powerful, and very old that Walpurgisnacht might have once been Eve herself. What if the first human girl was also the first Magical Girl and "eating the forbidden fruit" was a metaphor for making Kyubey's contract? Madoka's mythology has lots of christian allegory already, something like that wouldn't surprise me
My headcanon was that Walpurgisnacht was Homura. Unfortunately it wasn't to be, but it would have worked well: 1. The clockpunk gears on Walpurgisnacht are evocative of timepieces. This fits Homura's time manipulation ability. 2. In fact WN is canonically intended to be shaped like the top half of an hourglass, with Madoka's witch canonically shaped like the bottom half of an hourglass, representing their entwined fate. That fits Homura/Madoka too. 3. It would explain why Homura couldn't win, no matter how strong she got, because she was fighting against herself (a stronger future self, even). 4. It would create narrative parallelism with Madoka fighting and winning against her own future witch form when she became Goddess Madoka. 5. The symbolism inherent in the act of literally fighting one's own fate would have fit Homura well in the penultimate act. There are prior works involving a similar fight against oneself, either directly or metaphorically, such as Wizard of Earthsea or Fate/Stay Night, which did it to great effect.
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨Ʒ ((Severe Spoilers)) Why do you say "It wasn't to be"? I also feel that Walpurgisnacht is Homura, even after the Rebellion movie, since well, Walpurgisnacht and Homura in witch form *both* have the same general shape. An elegant woman in a dress with a bussel and half a head "sliced" off at the top, symbolizing loss of her intellect and reason and focusing instead on blind passion and selfishness. Who's to say that Devil Homura is not also siphoning magical girls/witches into herself through her illusionary universe that she created to trap Goddess Madoka? What if Homura removing memories from all the magical girls is the act of draining them of their powers and consuming them into her universe or in other words, herself? And she is possibly completely unaware she is doing it. I will continue to think that at some point in Movie 4 there will probably be a second overlying paradox that was the paradox of all paradoxes that caused her Walpurgisnacht witch form to enter the original timelines and cause havoc on the city. Possibly through a deep drive and need to destroy everything she knew and loved, even herself and Madoka, to reset all history and make herself and her friends never to have existed at all!
You know you've found one of the best AMVs when it can bring you to tears. Absolutely amazing work here, this sums the series up perfectly and beautifully.
For something like this, with one of the best songs that I have heard in a while, with one of the best Anime that I've seen in years, I have to say... Thank you. Thank you so much.
The amount of time, energy, and hard work you put into this dose not go unappreciated. I've never seen the series before but you have made it spark. The music is perfectly in tune with each moment. I can honestly say that, unlike with most AMV's I've seen, there was not one second that I was bored of watching this. Amazing work.
Why does Sayaka get no love? It's always about Madoka and Homura, even mami, who was only in 3 episodes, gets more love. How come? Sayaka's the most realistic and very interesting (next to Kyoko.)
Every Madoka Magica fanart I've done over the past five years has been because this AMV, both the song and how utterly good it is, inspired me to do so. I have to thank you from the bottom of my heart, whenever I hear this song I get ideas for art and it's all thanks to you haha.

Being
Kyouko-is angry/selfish
Sayaka-emotional/jelous
Madoka-godess/potiental
Mami-kind/afraid
Homura-suffering repeating
The amount of time, energy, and hard work you put into this dose not go unappreciated. I've never seen the series before but you have made it spark. The music is perfectly in tune with each moment. I can honestly say that, unlike with most AMV's I've seen, there was not one second that I was bored of watching this. Amazing work.
Why does Sayaka get no love? It's always about Madoka and Homura, even mami, who was only in 3 episodes, gets more love. How come? Sayaka's the most realistic and very interesting (next to Kyoko.)
I also feel like Sayaka is underrated... personally she is my second fave girl after Homura.
I loved Sayaka :D !
tiny mango I don’t hate her but I don’t like her she’s just... there
"I heard your heart beating. you were in the darkness too, so I stayed in the darkness with you."
That line brought a tear to my eye.
((why did i think it was a good idea to watch this))
Every Madoka Magica fanart I've done over the past five years has been because this AMV, both the song and how utterly good it is, inspired me to do so. I have to thank you from the bottom of my heart, whenever I hear this song I get ideas for art and it's all thanks to you haha.
I love Madoka (Show) so much! I'm kind of scare to watch Rebellion. I don't want to cry so much on a depressing ending.
Also, this AMV is so good, it's freaking scary! :D
Ethan Phelps when does it come out ?
