"I'll play and you blow" - Mike Matei 2015
What a fuckin' quote
***** i guess you could say that was... "mind blowing"
No.
Milkaroni when exactly it started? i remember there was a video with James, Mike and Bootsy (and one more guy?).
***** Rise i had no idea you were into that XD
Link is like, "Who is talking to me? And what the hell is a CDi?"
Pietro Lucchese Well *EXCUUUUUUUUUUUUUUSE ME PRINCESS!*
Believe me link
You don't want to know
It's a famicon cartridge. This link speaks Japanese. He has no idea what they were saying!
Nanda lmao good point but Link probably understood, he's an OG in the gaming world.
Would have been great if it had crashed
I love how childish they became when using the microphone.
Swedish X I love people who are young at heart :)
LSweet2007 She meant young at heart, not a miserable human being.
LSweet2007 i want you
aren't we all? haha
i did too
Interesting bit of trivia, most TVs in the US cannot tune to channels 95-97 because that overlaps with FM radio frequencies. The FCC used to prevent it, but they stopped caring in the late 90s and it's actually newer TVs that have a greater chance of tuning to the right channel. Channel 1, which is equally hard to find, is also known to work with Famicom on NTSC-J compatible TVs (it sounds like these would be hard to find, but domestic SONY TVs fall under this category).
They also added support for those frequencies for cable systems.
Old systems look bad on new tvs tho
You know what they should have screamed into the mic? HEY!! HEY!! LISTEN!!
👌yesssss
***** k
tylerdurden3891 Only true fans get it. Thanks for the good laugh
tylerdurden3891 I would scream, "SHUT UP NAVI"!
+tylerdurden3891 Oh my gosh I can hear it in my head.
my friend got my zelda 1 map confiscated by the teacher. we went on a mission during lunch to break it out of her file cabinet and were successful.
Because it was a Swastika?
@@supernovel7514 probably
Then it was confiscated again
Nice lmfao.
onvogmasaj i made mine out of graph paper
"I'm shooting ducks with a piano!"
"I just shot a duck by saying 'fuck'"!
"I just fucked the Pols Voice!"
You James rock!
That's actually decent microphone quality for the Famicom.
Compare to "GUHSTBUSTUHRS"
ikr
I still hear people with shittier microphones nowadays online LMAO
Sounds like xbox 360 microphones
I love James & Mike Monday's it makes me feel like I'm actually their hanging out with them .
Austin Droke I know it's the best! :)
Austin Droke i think that is the best feature that this channel has!! You are watching two regular friends hanging out enjoying videogames.
Somehow I find that voice thing pretty impressive, for an 8-bit system.
Chaos89P my best friend from Japan had a Famicom growing up and we would just yell obscenities into the microphone through the TV. His parents didn’t know much English so the never knew what we were saying.
I don't really see the point of it, though. (How many games was it actually an incorporated function?) It was so useless, they left it out of the NES model.
Despite not being a big Zelda fan myself, I can totally understand why the game is so well-liked. I do remember how kids used to share tips and strategies with other kids, and how immersed into the world of Hyrule that players got as they made their way toward Ganon.
It's too bad that we didn't get the microphone option for the NES here; that could've made for some neat gameplay tricks back then... much like we saw for the DS/3DS years later. Using voice to combat enemies was thinking outside of the box back then and is yet another example of Nintendo/Miyamoto creativity.
de lo mejor
hahahahahaha anything zelda i just love!
Peter Skerritt I disagree. It seems like this game is heavily reliant on walkthroughs and I don't see how this game is really well liked. I see the same arguments used for this game and I simply don't see how people can hate Simon's Quest and still praise this game. I'd say, not as a Zelda fan, that A Link to the Past got it correct.
Chippen Dale I've never played COD. Yes, I have played games before the internet. No, I still don't like the original Zelda. I don't consider finding a completely random bush to burn in the wild a challenge. I don't really consider figuring out an items second purpose in one specific place a challenge. I don't like the game at all. Just because I don't like Zelda doesn't automatically imply I'm some kind of child who has hard ons for FPS games. I prefer challenging games, but this was just unfair.
FreshprinceObelair
Never played the original Zelda but one evening at my summerhouse (it doesn't have electricity) I had an emulator installed on my DS and played the original Zelda blind. I got through most dungeons and found tons of secrets, it's a really addicting aspect and it's honestly not a "challenge" but it's not supposed to be a challenge, just exploration fun.

This name is the most general and simplest game player name in japan.
That sword story at the end was priceless. I was whisked back to my childhood for a minute through the enthusiasm on your face. On an otherwise shitty Monday you made my morning! Thanks James.
Man talking about the old TV's made me think back to the old ass cable boxes that actually had a knob on it with 0-88 or some shit on it. No remote, just get your happy ass the fuck up and turn that loud ass dial til you get to something that was playing cartoons lol
AlphaOmegaSin Damn, AOSin watches Cinnemassecre? Holy shit. I just got done watching your MM Collection vid.
Blackpapalink Alpha is a major fan of cinemassacre overall. He mentioned a couple of times on his videos. He's even on a James & Mike mondays, playing Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hide, look it up, it's funny as fuck.
***** Oh yea
I remember that. They were stuck in the town with that barrel.
I remember those, Viacom Boxes damn I'm getting old.. Lol
Dave G you are welcome.
I have my grandma's copy of a Zelda 1 map... it is seriously annotated. Like, full on almost every single secret (if not all of them, anyway) and pointing out every single dungeon location. And it's a very fragile thing, too, since it appears to have been well-utilized for a good deal of time...
If anyone wants pictures, I can take some. I'd scan it but the map's pretty fragile and since it's too large for my scanner I don't want to risk trying to scan it in parts and have the map rip in half from the lid being closed.
TheInunah "Just do it!" --Shia/Nike
TheInunah yeah just take pictures
TheInunah take a picture if you're concerned. with a good camera you can take a decent pic!
I still have my original map, but I never wrote anything on it. That's pretty cool and I wish I had.
I not sure why but that makes me fell old. I had one when it was new too.
The teacher was all like "What? The Legend of Zelda sword shoots?"
And then 10 kids said "Yeah yeah it does!!"
Made my day...
"I'll be playing and you can blow"
ArcadeMachine15
Yeah I know, I watched the video too.
Hugo Brömme Yeah, curses on him for quoting his favorite part of the video! Too bad there are strict rules enforced by you for commenting on these videos. Thanks for your service in this community.
Hugo Brömme It never ceases to amaze me how stupid people like you are. He was quoting a line from the video that made him laugh, dumbass.
FreshprinceObelair
Quoting shit of videos was redundant, is redundant and will always be redundant.
Community, yeah my ass.
MrWolfSnack
"He was quoting a line from the video that made him laugh, dumbass."
Well, no shit, Sherlock! Doesn't change the fact, that it's redundant as fuck.
You are one of the last people who should call ANYONE a dumbass.
How did they go through the whole video without saying "Ghoost Busterrrrrs!" into the controller?!
BEEE SEVUHNTEEEN BAWHMBER
All the old TVs I owned had at least 125 channels! Weird yours have so few!
Nicobbq That must be a canada thing lol
SIMIFU most old tvs in the us i know of had 125 channels total. Sometimes you would have to use the remote to get that far as auto channel searches only gave you working channels with a signal.
Nicobbq I had an old tv that had 13.
jekblom123 usually when its on antenna mode thats how it is
or it goes to 69. Cable mode has 125
6:32 CACADOOKEY!!! Haha still cracks me up every time I see this one!
Love you guys, keep makin awesome vids!
Erick Latrance thanks brother!
braedon eves nice pic, just let that lovin take ahold brother
Erick Latrance right?
I just love all of you, guys ^^
I smoke 2 Joints when I play videogames, and at every ten thousand points...
I smoke 2 joints :)
THATS WHY LINK IS MUTE!!!! YOU - ARE - HIS - VOICE!!!
Mind blown 😨
Miguel Sanchez That certainly explains why you are asked to input your name in every single game, even though technically the hero is called Link.
Miguel Sanchez is your account picture of Pokemon henti

I was thinking that!
When you guys say Monday. You mean fucking Monday. Right when the clock strikes midnight, I love it guys.
Teacher: Does the Legend of Zelda Sword shoot?!
Ten kids: Yeah! It does!
It reminds me of the ol' gangta rap diddy that goes..
"Fuck the Pols Voice! Comin' straight from Hyrule.."
A young elf named link cause I'm green
***** I remember that song. Step back, I got the players guide. Fuckin' game genie with the codes inside.
I intentionally play my NES on an old 80s TV with coaxial support because that's the way I remember playing it and it's the way I most enjoy it.
TanRu Nomad I remember having to switch coax inputs between the NES and Atari, what a pain. Luckily my dad eventually hooked it up via composite when they got a better TV. Though, after our Commodore 64 died in the mid 90's, I used the C64 monitor (had composite and mono audio inputs) for the NES in my bedroom. The C64 monitor even did well for the N64 when that came out, looked much better than using a VCR to coax input on my 1980's 13" Emerson I had in my bedroom.
washburn085 I used my 7" JVC portable B&W TV from 1976 hooked up to my NES and play it just like a toy.
MTN Productions B&W??? Nes games require you to have color!
❤️
I would like to see an animation of Link's face reactions when James and Mike were telling him about the future.
Tails19935 Someone should make a James & Mike Mondays RUclips cartoon and do that! haha
-Mike
This is an epic episode. I had no idea about the microphone!
I wonder if the mic works on the Wii-U rom?
Bodhi Bird Studio Maybe in Japan. Good question.
***** I think he mentioned this in his Zelda review, where he listed the weird enemy names. I'm glad to see it in practice.
Interactive E.T. That's a pretty cool feature. Thanks for mentioning that.
I beat Zelda 1 without a guide when I was 8, so it's definitely possible. I had to use graph paper and literally bomb, burn, whistle every possible tile, but I did it (I would have killed for Castlevania II's infinite holy water).
Zelda II has enough cryptic stuff I needed a guide though.
Most NES-era games are cryptic due to poor translation, so I never held it against Castlevania II. I find it the least frustrating NES Castlevania.
XRG81 I actually hear that Castlevania 2 is similarly cryptic and confusing in Japan as well making our translation even shittier than normal.
XRG81 I did beat the Legend of Zelda before I could WALK.
XRG81 Castlevania II was cryptic in a way that helped sell nintendo powers, similar to other games.
I think I heard that from a movie once.
Pics or it didn't happen
Weird that they pronounce it co-axle, there's another "A" in there. Coaxial.
Maybe it's a New Jersey thing.
I remember a supervisor in work pronouncing it "coxle". Then again, he wasn't very bright.
South Jersey/Philly accent
eh it's just easier to say it that way
Anyone I've ever met pronounces it "co-axle"
James always says alien in a strange way too, like "alian".
Love James' Shirt.
Eng: I'm probably guessing then that James have not tattooed Ljn on his arm.
Swe: Jag gissar nog då att James inte har tatuerat in Ljn på sin arm.
He wore a shirt that has Led Zeppelin on it. I'm not a fan of Led Zeppelin but I've heard one song called "Stairway to Heaven" or "Whole Lotta Love". The song "Whole Lotta Love" was okay, but the one that I never liked the most was the experimental break, that was right up there with "Revolution 9" by the Beatles from the "White Album" and "Susan" by the Buckinghams, because it was too creepy to hear that experimental part.

8bitkeroro in a previous James & Mike Monday he mentions that he does now have the cable for it now but had no means of recording.
what are the differences between the disc and famico cartridge
0:47 - Wow, was Nintendo really always that bad about region locking?
Zelda changed my life as well. Never had played anything like that when it came out before. Link to the past is my fav zelda game too and certainly in my top 5 or so all time. I'll never forget being in 9th grade when Link to the Past released and being excited to tell my friends how far I had gotten or be jealous if one have them had done something I hadnt seen yet. Great memories
Back in my days we had replicas of famicom from China in post-USSR. And that is the reason why I have habit to sit like japanese with my legs crossed. By the way ALL this replicas have turbo-buttons and perfectly working laser guns. Also why do you need 95 channel? You just pick any channel and set it to the same frequency that the famicom uses. I managed to set it even on russian TV from 50s.
Evgeniy Homenko You can't change frequency on American televisions, it just so happens that channel 92 or 95 on wards have a similar frequency to the one needed to play.
Oh, those old soviet tv sets from 50-70 were really dangerous - screen can explode at every moment :(
"......who the fuck is talking?!" - Link
A part of my childhood answered. Thanks so much for finally showing me how to properly defeat Pols Voice. Awesome. So great to watch you guys experience it together. Loved it!
Seeing as the code for the microphone is still in the American version I am going to try blowing in my microphone on my 3DS and see it it works
did it work?
Don't know yet
How about now?
Omg did it work
I can confirm IT WORKS it was pretty cool. I as well got to fuck one to death haha
That was great! I've been wanting to see that Pols Voice trick ever since the Transformers Episode.
I never thought I'd get to see them defeated by the mic! Awesome!
All those rumours from when I was a kid are true!
Timmo Warner Yeah! It was pretty awesome to do something in the original Zelda we have never done before.
-Mike
It would have been funny if link talked back to mike lol
I made a Legend of Zelda cardboard shield when I was a kid! :)
MrHousecup That is adorable!
Like knights of the round table? :)
You've inspired me!
I did too
I remember kids in school back in the 90s making shit up about games, there was always some kid who knew a "friend" who had his dad work on X company so he knew what to do in a certain game.
Bullshit lol, anyone knew any kids with crazy made up on the fly stories like that?
Biankito Kids that did that? I know adults that do that shit.
In elementary school, my friend told me there was a cheat code in Animal Crossing where you could kill some of the characters. Every time he came over he "forgot" how to do it.
Stupid kids on the playground during recess trolling about Luigi being in Super Mario 64.
***** My friend said you could get an AK-47 in Animal Crossing. Since he was a compulsive liar I didn't believe him, but he saw his friend do it so it must have been true.
I'm sure we all remember the whole "sail around the s.s. anne get mew" trick. I remember hearing so many versions of that story. The most far fetched (pun not intended) one being: sail around the s.s. and you'll come to this island with a house where a man will come out & challenge you (his party being all Mews), beat him & he'll give you mew. 😂 Ah, those were the days. And yet the greatest mystery still...that truck. 🚛
The Famicom operates on cable channel 95 which is 91.25 MHZ for the video carrier and 95.75 MHZ for the audio carrier. This means you could actually listen to the audio from your Famicom on any radio tuned to 95.75 FM (if you touch the rf output to your radio antenna, of course). This is also pretty close to TV channel 6 (VHF) so if your old tv has a fine tuning knob, depending on just how far you can adjust the fine tuning you might be able to get a system to work on channel 6.
You guys will be happy to know that Zelda Wii U is going back to the open world style of the original Zelda with a much larger world, and it seems like it will be even more non-linear and exploratory than even the original.
For something that released in the '80s, the voice microphone on the Famicom controller and its use to destroy specific enemies in the game by literally speaking into it is an amazing technology that looks revolutionary and ahead of its time, I have to admit!
That part where they talk to Link was cute xP
Do you guys not know of COAX-to-RCA adapters? They're like $2.
The stock console internally combines the video signal with audio and Rf modulation. Coax-RCA adapters don't remove the resulting video noise. To clean up the video, you need to remove the modulator and mixer, and install dedicated audio and video output jacks, usually with some sort of simple impedance matching circuit.
Is it James or Mike who edits the videos? Or do you guys take turns? Just curious.
Ryan E. I edit all the James & Mike Mondays videos
-Mike
Cinemassacre can you say Deez Nuts on Pols Voice? that would be hilarious!
Cinemassacre It would have been hilarious if you just left the signature out of it. :D Anyway, love the videos, and I'd love more of these games you played as kids. It's a different experience than just watching you play a game that you didn't play as a child.
Thunder Spark It's not even funny. Why do people force it too much to be funny.
Rumi Setzu I do admit.. it is overused but it's just funny for a one time thing.... anyway, it's your opinion and i don't judge.
When they started talking about Zelda at the end, it reminded me of my experience with Pokemon when I was like 5 years old and it was all the rage in elementary school.
Ohh, I miss the 90's ... I'm born 1989 so I can't really say that I miss the 80's lol
But their discuss at the end made me feel so young again. Beign a kid, playing games, talking about games. Good old times! A time without time and worries! Nostalgia..
DragonUltraMaster I totally relate to this. I really miss those days...
At some point, you do need one of the candles to burn the bush and open the entrance to Level 8.
Nope, you can use the magic wand to make it burn..

Mike always looks like he's been gaming for like 3 days straight lol
I'll never forget the great memories of playing the NES in the 80's great times!
Thanks for all the great memories!
You haven't seen Japanese Zelda 1 unless you've played the FDS version. The cartridge version inherited some of the US version's changes.
lol I love the story at the end with the cardboard sword!
I remember playacting as characters from Zelda in my friend's backyard and I ended up being the worst hero ever. There was a creek that was pretty old, so the sides were basically these six foot cliffs. I walked up to the edge holding my paper Triforce I had made, and the ground gave way and I fell right into the water.
Hey Nerds,
you should buy an Hong Kong Famicom, it outputs CVBS AV.
I was literally crying at the microphone part!! xDD
How great would it be if when Mike said mentioned the Phillips CDI games Link just grabbed his sword and committed honorable seppuku?
That's so nice, how you guys go back to your old memories. Really moving to see the pleasure, when you tell these stories with your friends and past classmates.
Mike talking to Link is too great.
James killed the rabbit head by saying 'fuck' ..... that just make my day =D
We had the Famicom in Latin America, the NES never made it here.
And the Master System. Europe and South America were ALL SMS land...
Gabriele Riva Yeah, but it wasn't nearly as popular as the Famicom, in fact I didn't know anyone who owned one.
Huh, that's interesting. Where in Latin America is that, or is it just ALL of the region that got Famicom?
superstarmandl All of Latin America, afaik.
ifacro
Never heard that. Also, isn't Latin America PAL?
That Link monologue was really cute. Probably the funniest thing I've seen here in some time.
Yay! Thanks for uploading, guys! You're the greatest!
ZombiEBenoiT DUDE! LMFAO
ZombiEBenoiT you must be subbed to me on Google+! Lol I thought you disappeared
As Ralph Kramden would say "Baby, you're the greatest!"
I look at systems, by how big of a leap they represent.
The move from the Atari to the SMS/NES was the biggest jump in gaming, IMO.
The 16/32/64 bit consoles that followed, basically took the same formulas developed on these platforms, and made them look/sound better.
James seems much cooler when he's not screaming gratuitous obscenities. Someone I would totally hang out with.
This is literally all I want. A best friend to play Nintendo with
Never knew there was a Zelda game for the Famicom.

SirNightmayor Earth bound zero is the US release. aka mother 1 in JP.
I think crypticness works in zelda, because it's the kind of game you can explore and find the solution.
Unfortunately, sometimes, the answer is to do something completely off the wall and ridiculous; something which you would have to be desperately stuck on a puzzle, but this somehow adds to the game.
for example; when you have to walk through some of the walls in the final palace of Zelda II.
I don't know about you, but when I got up to the great palace I naturally tried to walk through the wall. I guess it's just because I've already had experience in other games like Metroid.
P.S: I love Zelda II
the saved game says Rinku. ^_^ Link's ORIGINAL name, lol
I agree mike...first time I played Zelda it was so much more than anything else I had ever played
... Oh wait-- I WANNA TALK TO LINK!

Awesome collection on the shelf in the background. The Ghostbusters and TMNT stuff is reminding me of my childhood
I don't understand the TV channel-thing. When I was a kid, what you did was to start a frequency search until you got the video game input. Why couldn't you do this with that TV? Is there some difference between U.S. televisions and European televisions in that regard?
travis DG edna Exactly, I don't get it either, I guess that the guys aren't used to working with old TV's with RF input. You have to MANUALLY tune (and not auto tune) the frequency in a channel number you want and then memorize it in that channel. The channel numbers are just "slots" where you can memorize (save) any frequency that you setup manually. This means that you can setup the Famicom in channel 1, even in a TV with just a few channels (channel slots).
Honestly, I think it's different between each continent. So it's understandable that Japan would use different frequencies than the United States, or Europe for that matter. It's like, you have to have a special kind of radio here in the United States in order to pick up Japanese radio stations. You feel me?
Tetsamaru my oldass CRT-TV has manual tune controlls(and volume/channel controls) in the TV itself, and we dont/didnt have remote for it.
Tetsamaru PAL tv always had channel settings and you could search the frequency manualy, so you could store a frequency in any channel you wanted. For example I had a TV that only had 10 channels but each channel had its own individual knob to change the frequency this was a +40 years old TV
Tetsamaru
My parents TV was pretty old, though. I think we got the answer from rayci santana. :)
Such a timeless moment in history. James really should've killed the Poe's Voices with a classic "MunkeyCHEESE!"
This was awesome.

Dammit Marie, it's a mineral.
When I leave the house I turn the TV off but the playlist is still playing. This is how I support James and Mike. You can do the same.
I'm buying a Famicom and the Famicom version of Zelda just so I can do that.
Episode 104. Doesn't feel like 2 years since you started. Time flies when you're playing games.
Explain this to a European, please. Why do you need channel 95? Can't you just pick any channel and set it to the same frequency that the Famicom uses? That's how we setup our analog TV channels and older (pre-PlayStation area) consoles and computers.
It's because the famicon was region lock and wouldn't have worked on any tv outside of Japan, and I assume after channel 80 the lock out chip doesn't work
Poki#3 I think you're confusing channels with pre-sets. I'm from the UK so i don't know how it works in NTSC land but we could tune "Channel 1" (the preset when you press 1 on the remote) to UHF Channel 36.
I thnk the US might be different but the Japanese frequency allocation was different than the US. The frequency the japanese used for "Channel 3" is on the frequency the US uses for "Channel 95". US TV's that were "cable-ready" might have been able to tune to the higher channels.
Poki#3 American TVs have their channels pre-tuned to certain frequencies, and by the systeme they use, the frequency which would get Famicon feed should be on channel 95.
Region lock is such bullshit
jeremiaas15
Really? There's no way to tune American TVs? What if the channels you watch most often are on 12, 42 and 59 and you'd prefer to have them on 1, 2 and 3?
What i like about their Monday-Videos is that they share their childhood memories with us and even if you never played the same Game, you can feel the same feelings and memories for other games you've played as a kid.
This video remembers me about my experience with Pokemon Red/Blue an James' feelings for the Castlevania Franchise during his Castlevaniathon are the same like my feelings to the Halo Franchise.
It's amazing how even in the beginning Nintendo were dicking about with innovative hardware inputs. I Always feel such a fool when I'm playing a DS Zelda on the train and I have to blow into it!
gombagod I meant blowing into the system's microphone to progress in the game.
Art Murder yep, same here. I only ever slide it up when a pretty cutscene starts and I think 'they probably really want me to watch this in 3D'.
Tom McRoberts Nintendo doesn't come up with new ideas, they repeat gimmicks over and over like their games, the microphone (Famicom/DS/3DS), 3D (Virtua Boy/3DS), Touchpad (DS/3DS/Wii U), Gameboy Add ons (SNES/Gamecube). Not to mention the Wii motion control is a more diverse version of the old steering wheels/pedals or the light gun/zapper from back in the day.
Tom McRoberts okay my bad. I don't have a ds.
Tom McRoberts Haha, my coworker was complaining about how hard it is to play Spirit Tracks on a train because the noise level is too high and you don't want to be too loud and bother the other passengers.
If you don't want to tear off the SNES notches, you could always swap the cartridge shells. It's what I do as someone who doesn't own enough Japanese games to justify doing something like that.
Mike please review Golvellius! I am crossing my fingers!
I hope you do man!

That was awesome. My cousins and I owned a Famicom and disk system back in the late 80s but we never knew you kill them with the second controller mic.
