The realest vocal coach on the tube. You actually show how to do this stuff in detail. You walk the talk where most other coaches hide the actual lesson behind paywalls. I took your free vocal course, and I recommend it to everyone.
One thing I'm surprised you didn't mention at all is how Chris Martin always uses straight tone. I've never heard the slightest vibrato or wobble in his voice in their 22 year career! I think it's another part of how he manages to sound clear as a bell.
In terms of suggestions, please please please do some Chris Stapleton. Teach us how to sing Barely Alive or Sometimes I Cry. His grit and power in those songs are out of this universe.
    Thanks Chris! You rock!

Hey Chris, as someone who has studied Chris Martin's voice for years and sung in a Coldplay tribute band, I can tell you there are a couple things you are getting wrong.
Firstly, his falsetto is a fully fledged, disconnected falsetto. I've heard people come at it from a Radiohead-esque very heady mix approach before (like you do in Clocks), and I'm sure this is the more technically correct way to sing, but its not the way that Chris does it. He fully flips into falsetto and it's not at all connected to his modal voice. This gives it that naturally breathy quality, even though it is still quite strong and well supported when he wants it to be.
Secondly, his chest voice. He absolutely does use the crow/dying cat, but there is a big component you are missing that makes him recognisable as Chris Martin, although you touched on it when you said his voice is light and dark.
That is, there is a certain 'pretty' or delicate quality that always permeates his chest voice, unless he is belting intensely. If I try and isolate that quality I get like a breathy Patrick Star (from Spongebob). If you take that quality, then close your cords a little more and do the crow, it will become a like a buttery dark texture that produces incredibly sweet and pretty overtones as it resonates through the crow. That's Chris Martin's chest voice right there. Otherwise it will sound like any other pop rock guy using twang and it will lack that pretty quality that makes you feel vulnerable when he sings.
Lastly, I feel it should be noted that Chris Martin does not really have great control of his mix. If you watch him live, you can find many examples of him cracking and straining. Although, he has gotten better in the last couple years.

Thank you again Chris, these videos are amazing exercises for me! I'm starting to recognize and figure out vocal placements much better thanks to the application of cues like the crying voice and sedated witch. Could you cover some of the 70's rock singers who kept a very full, bassy belt sound even when they went high - Paul Rodgers, David Coverdale, Lou Gramm? My problem is that I lose too much bass resonance and get strident higher in my mix voice.

I wish it could be a bit less ‘hard rock-ish’ (though I understand those are your influences) and Chris Martin is a very good example of that. It's funny that you would mention a "country singer" in the beginning of Yellow because that's actually how the song came to be. Chris was messing around with the guitar and trying to do a Neil Young impression while singing "look at the staaarrrs" (rolling the R) and although it dint't turn out a country song, the Neil Young influence is there. :)
Chris Martin's voice is pretty unique. I know he's not the greatest singer of all time in terms of vocal range or technique, whatever, but I'd rather hear him sing 100x more than a pitch-perfect singer. He always has this emotion and softness in his voice that makes me (and probably a lot of people, considering the amount of fans Coldplay have) feel things like joy and calm that maybe pitch-perfect singers cannot. And it is very natural to him. This, no amount of technique can bring. In my opinion :)
Good review, I enjoyed knowing more about this kind of stuff.

His voice are some sttrugles to sing correctly the high notes during live (not the faseltto in fact), but my impression when i hear the concert was he sing with vocal more to his heart, but he have a good voice and a particular tone who it's remains of the voice of Bono or the singer of ''Radiohead''. That was the impression of the three first albums, but after that, i remember to hear the live after ''Viva la Vida'' since (notably the 2009 and 2012 performance in Grammy) and his voice sound better and more stronger. Because he wanted to used more her lower register in the fourth album and when he used more that, he sound very better and very in point. I remember when i listen and praised his vocals during the listen of the album, because the vocal was profound and so much more colours. I noted imperfections in his voice, but this have his charm of that.

Hey Chris. I'm a beginner at this whole singing process and I was wondering if you had any videos that would be great for beginner signers looking to develop their voice. My voice is god awful, but I want to know if it's possible for some one like me to learn how to sing.

YES! Follow the link below the videos in any of my videos to join my free voice course. That's the place to start!! It will also ad a fantastic foundational viewpoint for all of my RUclips videos so you'll be able to better internalize what I do and put it into your own voice!
