    My favorite room at estate sales is also the office. There's $$ in ink and toner. But I did find a lone Cutco paring knife on a garage shelf. Bought it for $1 and sold it for $50.

    Hey Lonnie, I so appreciated your stories at the phone company… I worked as a service tech also for GTE which merged with Atlantic Bell and became Verizon. I did the same thing for my customers and was just as appalled at the abuse of the elderly in that regard. I liked the freedom of that job but I like reselling a whole lot more! Thanks for the great vids!

    How about a compilation of your shipping box artistry? Cutting down in size, lengthening, wrapping with a single sheet, triangular, two into one, etc.

    I remember a guy who worked for the phone company in the 60s/70s. When you had an unauthorized device connected to the phone lines they would to go into your house and remove it.
    Lets say you didn't answer the door or were avoiding them. They would hijack your line and just make the ringer ring constantly. They were mechanical ringers and if left ringing long enough would cause the ringer to overheat and break. In extreme cases the phone could start to melt.
    They would then replace your rented phone and cut off the unauthorized device.

  • @humidbeing
    @humidbeing Месяц назад

    Yep couldn't attach your own equipment to phone lines back in the day. That's why early computer modems had a cradle you would set the phone handset in. That got around the restriction since it was acoustically coupled and not electrically coupled. Only after the court ruling Lonnie mentioned could you plug a line directly into a modem.
    My great aunt, until very recently, was getting charged extra fees because she had a rotary phone. She owned the phone, but at some point the phone companies tacked a few bucks on her bill for not using touch tone. When I found this out I gave her an old touch tone phone we had and got the charge removed.
    I still have a few customers with POTS lines for DSL. DSL can have advantages over cable modems in niche use cases. But the phone companies constantly give them the hard sell to switch to fiber if available.

      @imgonnapackit  Месяц назад

      Isn't that ridiculous? I remember when they would charge extra for touch tone service. Then later they go back and charge extra for rotary. The phone company and cable company are the most notorious fee adders of all time. So you are still working for the telco?

    We had a 2nd phone jack for the dial up that I had no idea was still active hidden behind a file cabinet until the sheriff's showed up asking if someone called 911. I said um no whats the number and they gave this random number I didn't even know about. So I called my Dad since it's his house I'm renting and he said its the old dial up line I wasn't even paying attention to the extra $20 in the bundle deal I was paying xfinity every month. I said this needs to be removed right now. In the meantime the sherrif showed up again the next morning said they got another 911 call. I said wtheck, so I explain about the phone line still active even had them come inside to see for themselves I had a jack on the wall. They said I could get in trouble if it kept randomly calling 911 so I asked why on earth does it keep doing that and they thought it might have had something to do with the hurricane force winds in California we were having triggering it somehow. I got it removed immediately.

    It’s like the same thing as people paying a monthly fee for their modems and routers. You can buy them yourself. I still haven’t done that cuz I work from home and the internet company says they have to be within certain specs but not sure how true that is

    • @imgonnapackit
      @imgonnapackit  Месяц назад

      Yep that’s very similar. Also with renting the cable boxes and even remote controls.

      It does. At the bottom of that thumbnail you'll see the amount refunded. Those are almost always cases where a customer bought multiple items and I refunded some of the excess shipping back to them.
