  • Paxton Road is my N gauge cameo micro layout. Just 500mm long it is a wonderful tonic after a busy day and in this video I reflect on it's success whilst operating it as I do most days. For more check out the Paxton Road label on the blog:

    I noticed the fencing on several layouts and it works really well. I love the loco in this setting, and the way you always get the backscene just perfect

      Thank you, the colours and shades certainly work well and the etched metal fence very fine and then it helps further diffuse the backscene. The backscene itself was faded with white spray paint to give the impression of it being further away. There is more about the layout and it’s approach on my blog.

    I am glad you enjoy your craftmanship. It is a very simple creation, but in our complex world, the ideal refuge from the pressure that seem far too constant. Thank you for all your work. Even your voice soothing and fits in well with the atmosphere of the session. No music or whistles and engines turned up way too loud to distract from the mood. A pleasure to view.

      Geoffrey, that’s very kind and thank you for noticing the voice, yes deliberately paced and soothing is something I had in mind.

    The slow speed running quality of the 08 is impressive

    Hello James, just discovered your channel and truly inspiring stuff. Attention to detail is amazing and the layout comes across as bigger than it actually is. Could I ask, how did you make the uncoupling devices or have I missed a tutorial on it somewhere? Well, I’m subscribed now! Cheers, Jeremy.

      Hi there - there is a video about the couplings, but not the uncoupling devices. They are simply Kadee magnet cut into 1cm squares, drilled to accept a brass rod (to pull and push) and put in a small 1x3cm thin styrene box and buried flush in the baseboard, directly under the track.

    Hello James. I am interested in how you make the under track uncoupling magnets slide back and forth. I recall you discussed this on your blog or in another video? Would this idea work with US Kadee couplers?

    • @JamesHiltonCustomModelRailways
      @JamesHiltonCustomModelRailways  Год назад +3

      It should work with Kadee but you may need to slide the whole large magnet. These DG ones don’t need much force so I’ve got away with quite small magnets. I shall do a video or blog about them, basically I cut up a Kadee magnet into 1cm squares, drill a hole in one end for a brass rod and then built a small box from thin styrene so they can sit directly under the sleeper web.

    LOVELY! those D&G couplings make some difference to the look of the rolling stock; do the buffers meet when pushing?

      @JamesHiltonCustomModelRailways  9 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you. You set the position of the buffing face of the DG when you install them. I have them just proud of the stock buffers, they work best then, but it’s very close and visually works.

    Hi James, is the new book going to feature smaller/cameo layouts or will it be looking at different topics?

    • @JamesHiltonCustomModelRailways
      @JamesHiltonCustomModelRailways  Год назад

      It’s got a different focus but there are still cameo layouts in the plan section, and plenty illustrated throughout.
