This is by far the best 12 bar blues introduction I have seen. Your instructions were clear, concise, and easy to follow. Your examples were on point, easy to replicate, and had an added interest by showing how, as it were, to 'step' it up a little. And the "Blues Box" was pure genius, it went a long way as a visual aid. I do hope that you continue this on as a series of 12 bar blues instructions from beginner to accomplished performer. I might add that, although I have liked a lot of different videos and have subscribed to quite a few channels, this is the first time I have ever commented on a video. It just goes to show how really impressed I was. Excellent job sir, excellent job.
You truly know how to stick to the scope of your lessons. Beginner means BEGINNER!!!! Great lesson and easily the best blues lesson I have found on RUclips for people just getting introduced.
This video has been a great tool to help me better understand the 12 bar blues concept. I am just learning to play guitar and saw a few videos on CBG's, which led me to your videos. They have been a great help in helping me understand some basic theory and inspire me to begin building my first CBG. Thanks again and keep up the good work.
You rock Del!!!! my custom 3 string licence plate guitar I built for my birthday last year and I will watch this till I got it ......and just noticed you posted this on my birthday this year keep the vids rollin I have learnt stuff from you that's invaluable man cool thanks for sharing your knowledge
Super important lesson for learning the 12 bar blues. If you're with friends and you say "Lets play in the key of E with a 1-4-5", they will know what chords you are going to play and the progression, order. Everyone is on board. Great lesson!
Sir those numbers are not chords the 1,4 and 5. Those are positions. And you might be right it might help you to identify with other folks what you're wanting to play Just want you to understand that . Not saying it's useless. And I'm glad you picked up what you were looking to learn from the video. Enjoy your Playing
Awsome. Greatly appreciate your lesson's. Great teacher with an awsome attitude 👍👍 Have fun with your music or your build of your own personalised Cigar Box.
Great video. There’s a Monty Python sketch where they’re mocking instructional TV programs and one of the team says “Next: How to play the flute. Blow in one end and run your fingers up and down the outside”. So many RUclipsrs are like that; claiming to be instructional while actually just baffling people. Thank you for not being one of them.
Wunderbar from Germany. I like your style of teaching and your expertise. Will get my CBD today and cant wait to start. I am playing guitar for quite while but i am sure this will be fun.... I may need another one then so i could pop up also on your web page ... Tschüss und bis dann
Dell.. You have opened up my eyes to a whole new world. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching your videos and am now in the process of making my first cigar box guitar. Thank you for sharing your gift and your passion for this amazing instrument. You have changed my reality.
Love you Blues Box! It‘s easy and simple to come around with. But i can‘t really see your add on‘s but it sound so great. Would you tell how you do it please?
Thank you for breaking this down so a dummy like me can understand. Now I need to quit building and start learning how to play. Thanks a again Dell. PS. Would appreciate some more beginner type lessons
Hey, if you can build you can absolutely play. I'd saw my damn arm off trying to build one of these things. Just lay on that first position "dun dun dun-dun dun dun-dun dun" and you'll be fine.
Jeff A. Taylor thanks for the push. I watched a ton of videos before trying to build the first one. I bought a set of digital calipers and down loaded the fret positions and got after it. Had to build a box for the body, learned a lot from it. Fret positions are important but after that it’s not so hard. Just give it a try, you’ll have fun with it. My next goal is to electrify one, and I’m a real dummy when it comes to wiring one. Good luck give it a go.
hahaha...I thought it was a sound effect...great upload Del, very easy to understand and as always...sounds pukka. lol..I am jumping up and down on the Blind Faith button everyday and it's not worn out yet. Have a great weekend man.
Puckett Cigar Box Guitar , Louie La Manna is always bragging on me how great my builds are . But I am a beginner in the playing department. Some day I will make the guitar holler like you do.
I think green onions by booker t and the mugs is a good example of a 12 bar blues. Cool, too. Tom Petty and the heartbreakers has an excellent version.
Brother been practicing the Blues Box video and been playing on my air guitar and it sounds just like you play...LOL Actually even though . pretending on a yard stick, but hey still sounds good.
Sorry ... i missed the tuning? Could anybody please help out? Thanks a lot. What 4-string tuning would you recommend to play this? Great little lesson, thanks a lot for sharing.
Hi mate I'm totally beginner and have just been watching your blues box video ,I kinda understand it , but what got me was what fingers were playing what strings . I'm left handed , so , what strings should my right hand be playing on the frets ?
Im having trouble using my first finger to do the whole bar. Especially with the highest string when I'm reaching my pinky out to play the last note. Any tips for helping me get the correct finger positions or finger strength.
@@PuckettCigarBoxGuitar Sorry for my bad English. I meant I subscribed to your channel right now. I've only just started to discover the Cigar Box Guitar. Great channel Best regards
You know what dell, maybe I overstepped. Maybe Tableture wasn't the 1st days lesson. Your students seem to be very impressed with what you Have taught them. So who am I to say what's right or wrong when somebody is enjoying the video and learning at the same time. Let me ask you though, at some point are you going to introduce Tableture so they can learn away from the videos?
1 Corinthians 11:14-15 Does not nature itself teach you that if a man wears long hair it is a disgrace for him, but if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For her hair is given to her for a covering.
Where do you get off? Who are you to judge the way a man looks ? And don't say you got it from The Bible . That is just you passing judgment on another person. Keep your mouth shut and keep your Opinions to yourself. the gentleman likes his hair a little longer and he likes to have a longer beard leave him be he looks fine. I have known incorrectly know some folks with longer hair that are way better people than anybody I've ever met at a church w/short hair If you want to Quote The Bible maybe you should read the part that says "Let you not judge another lest you be judged yourself"
Would have been much more Logical if you had actually written down what you were playing. I mean you're showing 1 and 4 and 5 which I guess what you're trying to translate Are positions not chords. You're playing 3 distinct chords at each position. And then you're telling people to believe when you're telling them the wrong thing. If they followed your hand movements exactly they would have The progression, youre right. but the way you're teaching it is way off And backwards. By teaching people in that manner you're really throwing folks off from actually learning music. Say a guy watches your video then goes and shows someone that actually knows music and the guy says 4 chord what the h*** is that. Again I get what you're getting at and I guess you get your point across to folks by doing it simple, I get that. But really wouldn't it be more advantageous to teach them what the actual chords are called So they don't look like idiots in front of other people. Also, To Teach folks Where the position is and where their fingers need to be, why not use tableture? It's easy to read and understood by nearly everyone. That way they're not rewinding the video 10 times trying to see where your fingers are.. And that is something they can take away Thereby allowing them to play anything They choose. Not just your 12 bar blues that they were specifically taught.
The 1, 4 and 5 numbers are referred to as ‘intervals’. Knowing the correct intervals makes it much easier to play in ALL keys without having to remember the chords as they can be derived or figured out from knowing the intervals. No one would look like an ‘idiot’ by referring to chords as their intervals and not the specific chords from a specific key! Quite the opposite in fact!
This is by far the best 12 bar blues introduction I have seen. Your instructions were clear, concise, and easy to follow.
