Quick answer: Lesotho, (landlocked by south aftrica) San Marino (landlocked by italy) and Vatican City (landlocked by italy)
Isn't Eswatini also landlocked by South Africa?
@@PhoenixAura81 Nah it also borders Mozambique
gambia?
SPOILER ALERT! 😡
@@uptotheminuteweather7479 Gambia is not landlocked
The pope: "Criticizes fascism."
Mussolini: "Gives him his own country."
The pope: "Stops criticizing fascism."
To fully understand Vatican City as a state within Rome, you have to go back to the time when the Pope governed all of the middle of present day Italy as the Papal States. During the Unification of Italy, all of Italy was taken including the now formally Papal States, (in 1870), from then on the Popes considered themselves 'prisoners' in the Vatican and refused to recognize the new Italy. The Lateran Treaty of 1929 solved the situation.
Italy lay siege on the Vatican, with the Pope threatening excommunication to any Italian soldiers.
Italy got around it by sending a Jew to fire the cannons and winning the war (you can’t excommunicate a Jew)
@@hkchan1339 🤣🤣🤣
@@hkchan1339 probably a dumb question, but Italy sent one jew or a group of them?
So meaning that all the popes from one of those very small states go to prison but later on do not recognise italy so they later on made their own country.
@@davidbernemojar1542
Got that from the channel History Matters, probably just one Jew threatening to light the fuse, and the Vatican surrendered.
When I went to San Marino, the impression I got was their main export is soft-air guns. I swear there's at least one soft-air gun store on practically every street.
That would be crazy much fun , kinda like a lifelong airsoft game
It is
It turned in to “Bad Marino”
Soft-air?
U mean air soft
Ah yes, I love being a tiny country who's main export is stamps and is completely surrounded by Italy
At least you’re not surrounded by nationalist Italy.
Atleast you're a pretty old country

It DID go wrong with the Vatican. They had expansive domains and territories which they almost entirely lost.
Video request: “Landlocked Nations with Navies.” Nations like Switzerland and Mongolia are landlocked, but have navies.
How does that even work.... and like why?
@@robobrain10000 swiss have sea acces i guess and mongolia is ceremonial
bolivia lol
The mongolian navy was already a video
Mongolia has a navy consisting of one patrol for an inland lake... the crew of six has one guy who can swim.
I’d just like to point out that the South African flag (new flag) here represents post-apartheid South Africa since 1994. The old South African flag is more apt for illustration purposes. The new South Africa tends to accommodate Lesotho a lot better than the old South Africa. Nicely done otherwise!
What do you mean otherwise what you said doesn't contradict anything in the video
I'm a south african. I do not live in a mud hut. I live in a house. Clean water. There is economic growth in my country. Same goes for Nigeria.
Africa HAS made progress. Apartheid was gone a long time ago. Racism is still here but it wasn't as bad as it use to be before 1994, And the continent is growing at a rapid rate
@Biden smells kids. I live in Africa and I've never been starved once, i finished highschool unimpeded and I'm about to go to the university. There are many people in Africa Living good lives, there are many millionaires and billionaires in Africa the same way there are many poor people in Africa and this is the same for other European, Asian and American countries. The same way you have the poor, the rich and the stable where you stay is the same way we have aforementioned so please stop generalising 🙂
9:05 South Africa had a different flag in the 1960s
3:40 Northeastern Italy: *Gets eaten by ocean*
5:48 "It would seem that stamps are a lucrative export for countries that are completely surrounded by Italy." Hahahaha!
Fun fact: Japan is further north, farther south, farther east, and farther west than Korea!
Further west?? Really?
@@selohcin some southernmost Japanese islands near Taiwan are situated southwest of the Korean Peninsula.
So does China
That is a nice fact :D
It’s like how Alaska is the US’s most northern, eastern and western state
Fun Fact: *Before Italians capture Italy, it was goverened by the Pope. When the Italians captured the country Pope hid inside the walls of the Vatican.*
Already knew Lesotho would be on this
Fun fact: Around the start of the civil war Abraham Lincoln got a letter from san Marino's regant captains granting him honorary citizenship and a prayer to god that he could find a peaceful selution.
Which is more fitting because its between the oldest and the largest republic in the world at that time
* oligarchy (US)
And the letter was co-signed by Secretary of state

Thank you for pronouncing “Lesotho” properly. Something that most RUclipsrs don’t do 😂
Pretty sure that’s just the British pronunciation, the American pronunciation is just different, although most Americans still pronounce the “h”
The audio in these videos are announced by an Ai lol
He didn't pronounced Lesotho properly
Maltese Order in Rome is also technically an independent country as well.
This gives me an idea about 4th dimensional countries that completely surround each other on all sides.
This is interesting, I had no idea countries could be landlocked by one country!

Lesotho was the answer to the million dollar question in an episode of Who Wants to be a Millionaire?
Really? Because that is a really easy question.
I remember my father telling me that our ancestors wanted to invade Lesotho to finish what their fourfathers started.
YIKES
Why would you share that? Are you *proud* that your ancestors were horrible people?
@@cappyjones it's just the harmless history insight.i didn't mean you no harm...
@@cappyjones Because they wanted to share history? Would you rather have them deny that their ancestors ever said such a thing? At least they're being honest, and it's not like it's their fault anyways.
Out of the top of my head I can think of the Vatican and Lesotho
There is 4th one in Lithuania, barely anyone knows about it. This state maintained secrecy for the past 30 years, since fall of Soviet Union.
We here in South Africa don't even see Lesotho as a country, it's more like our tenth province.
You covid covered goon
I always thought that Lesotho was another province for many of my younger years
Stop lying 😂😂😂😂

Italy would never invade San Marino or The Vatican, they’re our little friends we consider precious as diamonds.
San Marino sounds great lemme move there
You can have a 3 day break guys, please, you post videos all day. Just looking out. :)
The flag of South Africa standing over Lesotho on the video should be the old flag of South Africa not the current flag. The current flag of the country didn't do that to Lesotho.
People need to see these kind of comments.
The diamond mines are not really productive...... because only 30 percent of the total revenue produced from the diamonds is reinvested into the government.... so it's actually quite difficult for us finding jobs if the government can't find means of paying.....
Today I did a presentation on Vatican city. The topic was an interesting country.
Both Lesotho and South Africa had different flags back then.
Other landlocked country:am I joke to you?
And Hungary is surrounded by itself (the past Hungary)
Vatican City
Lesotho
San Marino
Could you please do a vedio on how all landlocked countries stayed from their independence till today. Please

Britain only took control because the king of San marno in South Africa king requested protection but britained assumed they were forfeiting there freedom by asking for protection, Britain got tired of the regional fighting and just left it, as they felt it was worthless land

As a South African, I think I can mention all before the video even starts
lol ek ook
I already knew what they were gonna be before I even clicked on the video
Technically by international law, all embassies are "landlocked" by just one country lol
That is called an enclave, the majority of the country is not landlocked. So technically no countries are landlocked by one country as they all have embassadies in different countries
technically hungary is surrounded by itself since ww1 ended
American embassy to israel
3:40 why does Italy have a weird gap in Emilia Romagna and Veneto?
2:05 something seems questionable. Hmm
Just got out of high school for the day, my day is already made.
Thanks to this video now I know how san Marino keeps its economy stable
And it's kinda cool that san Marino just appears asking if we speak Italian, and says it in italian
As a South Afrikan I have always felt bad for Lesotho
Postage Stamps will be in museums some day and children will ask what they were used for.
Note to self; Acquire land with access to the sea to avoid being land-locked by the enemy country... :P
San Marino corned tuna, thats why i know that country. Thanks Infographic show! and love girls from san marino 😘
Interesting 🤔
Monaco is too (if you count the ocean which France still fully controls as it's territorial waters). A few decades ago France blackmailed them into paying taxes by threat of cutting off utilities. Arguably so are Hong Kong and Monaco (don't hurt me China).
Neither of these are nations pal
About Monaco, sadly the video didnt count the sea border, as the title said "landlocked".
While HK and Macao are not a country of their own...it was part of Chinese empire, then British (HK) / Portuguese (Macao) colony, and now part of China.
@@gust2036 I (mostly)agree, thus why I worded it the way that I did. The "special status" and needing a literal passport to enter/leave makes them unique though. And sharing a water border still defacto locks them in at the others control despite being wet was the point there. Thanks for basically repeating what I wrote in slightly more detail though .
Unfortunately, that rule applies only to French citizens. Other people can still avoid taxation by moving to Monaco.
Before independen :
Leshoto : We want independence from south africa and italy !
After :
Leshoto : Bro, please help us bro
South Africa : Yo chill, alright give me 25% of your worker, we will treat them as humane as we possibly could
I already knew about Vatican and San Marino.
Why would Italy even invade Vatican? Vatican to Italy comes as second capital city serving religious purpose where Rome serves a political one. Also by default Vatican people are Italians since Vatican is part of Italy
A note: South Africa has only had its current flag since the mid-90’s: they had a different flag during the apartheid years.
This is true
The new flag that was in the video came in to place in 1994
The old flag was called the orange, white, blue
The fact that you were able to get to the 10min mark
Quebec: allow me to introduce myself
8:25 "Exacerbated," not "exasperated." 🙄🤨
Haven't watched yet but I'm guessing Lesotho Swaziland and maybe Monaco
i mean excluding waters like Mediterranean sea we could put like Denmark or Monaco

3:40 HOL' UP !
San Marino was born in 3 September 301 AC in empire Roman and San Marino was antique relationships hostile until now italy and San Marino are still exist of antique good relationships. I have remember few historical of San Marino as I know San Marino still existed.
san marino, vatican city, and lesotho
As they say, what goes on in Vatican City stays in Vatican City. Convenient.

What about Swaziland? Also surrounded by SA.
It borders Mozambique. And it's Eswatini.

Vatican is the smallest recognised country, sealand is the smallest one
Sealand isn’t even a real country or piece of land it’s a man made platform in British waters.
Sealand isn't recognised
Sealand is still Covid free!
Lesotho? Oh, you mean our unofficial 10th province?
Swaziland is also completely landlocked by SA
Eswatini also shares borders with Mozambique
What about Estwani?
one hand touches Mozambique, not only one country therefore
what about Swaziland
Monaco: Am i a joke to you?
Its not landlocked
You forgot 'urk'
If you want to count *land*locked countries then technically Monaco shares it's only land border with France, Ireland shares its with the UK, South Korea shares its with North Korea, and I am sure more exist too
All countries you mentioned have coastlines. Landlocked means having no sea access
