I remember in the 2000s, Miller Engineering made HO and N-scale drive-in theater kits, where the screen had a small LCD already built in, with a composite video input connection so you could hook up any composite video source (like a VCR or DVD player) underneath the layout. I have the Walthers Cornerstone Skyview Drive-In Theater kit on my HO-scale layout; it's designed so the screen can accept a 7.9" tablet. I put an old iPad Mini in the screen so I can stream drive-in intermission snack bar advertisements and trailers as I operate my layout, plus some old Looney Tunes and Pink Panther cartoons. It's always one of the big highlights of my layout, especially because my hometown used to have a drive-in called the Skyview when my parents were kids!
@@NYMR-Pacific I didn't, actually - it was just a bit of movie magic. I had my computer hooked up to the screen through a digital-to-analog converter box, and the Rickroll actually played through that. The tape you see me put in the VCR was a normal, unaltered copy of The Wrath of Khan, and the VCR wasn't connected to anything for that shot.
You can get older blu-ray players that have analog composite out and usb in. So you can put whatever digital files you want on a usb, and have it sent out over composite onto the screen. I use this setup to put my own videos onto VHS tape. I used a Panasonic DMP-BP87 that I got for cheap on ebay. I've never even tried the disc drives, but those can be useful for your purpose too. Should be the best all-rounder for what you wanna do.
I really like the project you did, I'm going to hack your idea and use my iPad instead. I really love your bright 💡idea of using a caboose as the snack bar. This is my first time watching your vids. I'm definitely going to Subscribe!
I have maybe already told you but my dad and great grand also made a big diorama back in the 60-70ies. I've only seen it on photos though but it's awsome. My dad sold it all years ago to someone (märklin trains etc). Actually a shame I didn't followed that train passion. My collection is 1:18 cars :) Mick, those cars you have, some of them, are 1:43 right?
I do have some 1:43 cars (bought for a planned O scale layout that I never ended up building). All the cars on the layout at the moment are 1:72 scale.
I very nice, new to your channel. O am planning a similar build for my N scale layout, I found a cheap 5 inch car back up lcd screen that excepts a plug in for a cheap DVD, now I just have to do what you did and figure out a screen surround, thanks for and entertaining video and some good ideas.
I will soon! I've been swamped with work and other projects lately and haven't had much time to make videos. I'll try to get at least one more video out before the holiday season is over, though.
