I spend too much money on model trains.
This channel is primarily about my HO scale layout. I also sometimes make videos about O, N, and G scale trains, as well as R/C cars and helicopters.
I have also done product reviews for the BC Hobbies channel, which you can find here: ruclips.net/channel/UC5_g7ID8wYdzsf49fWTL-Cg

Rivarossi Docksider: A Plucky Survivor
Просмотров 5 тыс.11 месяцев назад
One of the most underappreciated vintage HO steamers is a personal favorite of mine. Note that this review only applies to this specific Rivarossi model - not the saddle-tank version, not Life-Like and Tyco's crappy imitations, and not even Rivarossi's own similar but smaller 0-4-0 model. The good ones can be identified by their fully operational Walschaerts valve gear.
Bachmann 4-4-0: An American Classic

By popular demand, here's my review of the new-tooling Bachmann old-time 4-4-0. I was hesitant to get one of these because of the high price, but I was quite pleasantly surprised by it, and I think it's well worthy of being Westport & Shelter Cove engine #1.

Today, I'm taking a break from making videos that no one requested, and making one that two or three people requested. I also reached 2000 subscribers when the video was mostly finished, so the "special" aspect is a bit of an afterthought, but at least it's more than what I did for 1000 subscribers, which was nothing. If this trend continues, when we reach 3000 subscribers, I will send a free p...
The Legend of Casey Jones
Просмотров 64 тыс.Год назад
This is a short documentary about the life and death of Casey Jones, a famous railroad engineer who died in a train wreck in 1900. Casey gave his life to save his passengers, and became the subject of a well-known folk song. This documentary dramatizes the crash, and the events leading up to it, using models and practical effects to bring the scenes to life. Sim Webb's full interview: ruclips.n...
Repairing Bachmann Tender Plug Wires (the hard way)
Просмотров 7 тыс.2 года назад
ATTENTION! Since filming this, I've discovered that the superglue trick is actually a pretty bad idea. The glue can easily run inside the plug and completely jam it, and once that happens, it's impossible to get it out. A better option would be a very thick glue of some kind that will stay where you put it. If you do use superglue, make sure it's the gel stuff that doesn't run. This has been re...

TRX-4 1979 Ford Bronco at Saxe Point Park (R/C Music Video)

My TRX-4 Sport turned into a Bronco, with the body lowered and smaller tires for a more scale appearance, in action at Saxe Point Park. This TRX-4 has gone through a quick succession of bodies, including the stock Sport body and a Jeep Cherokee, but this one is by far my favorite. I repainted the body on the outside, so it does scratch fairly easily, but I eventually plan to get a clear Bronco ...

My friend Ryan and I both built scale R/C trail trucks using the same Jeep Wrangler body, so we decided to make a running video of them both together. His was recently completed, but mine is actually getting dismantled soon because it's getting pretty banged up and I want to use the chassis for something else.
Disassembling & Repairing a Bachmann Spectrum HO 4-6-0

EDIT: I later discovered that plugging the 8-pin decoder plug the other way around would have solved both the direction and lighting problems, and saved me a lot of programming. Flipping the plug around reverses the polarity to both the track and the motor, and swaps the front and rear lights. Oh well - at least now I know that for next time. Decorating an HO Scale Steam Locomotive
I love how real you are with how terrible these projects can be. I have the echo valley engine and the wires and connectors are even smaller!
@WWIIREBEL Can you give me a source for these motors? I have 2 of the and I’d like to take a shot a re-gearing and re- motoring one of them.
The motor I used in this was salvaged out of an old IHC engine. Unfortunately I'm not sure where to buy them new. I had to 3D print a custom mount for it, so it's not a direct fit regardless. Any small can motor should work, but you may have to get creative with mounting it.
This mogul is a perfect match for the Espee Class M-4.
I wonder if a scale is the next scale

Don’t Forget Do your Homework Before Going to The Show.
And Yes You Have the Right To Become Train Tarded When Goin to These Shows Always Stay Till Closing At All Shows.
Goin To Large Train shows Rock!
My jaw dropped. USA Trains railcars for 10 dollars!! You definitely had a great day out. Even though you had to do some work on your locos after it was worth it. I’m really not sure what I think about cab chatter. I don’t hear it standing 1:1 track side.
Yeah, the cab chatter is taking me a while to warm up to. It's a feature on pretty much all modern Lionel locomotives, even the steam engines that wouldn't have had radios in real life. A bit odd for sure.
@@michaelramsey81 still, they are cool engines!
@@Terrys-Steam-and-Bricks Definitely! I'm on the fence about selling this one or keeping it. A modern diesel doesn't really fit with the rest of my fleet, but it's really fun to run. Maybe I should sell it and get a Legacy steam engine.
@ that’s probably what I’d do.
Oh wow Michael what a show and the deals you got😮Fantastic. Got myself one of those big haulers 4 6 0s. Actually much better than I thought it would be. Appart from the smoke generator🙄 Also an Aristocraft RS3 wich is awesome appart from the smoke generator🙄. Thanks for another great video👍
Is that a bachmann station 29:52
It's Lionel.
Lore behind why is a 19th century steam train on a class 1 railroad When Michael bought land in machacusett they owned no rails to transport the engines and rolling stock so they rented csxs freight line
I’m from USA But will go to show like that Where is information about future shows for 2025
Easiest way to find them is just Google "model train shows near (insert city here)" and see what comes up
Casual OCSR drop??
I stopped by on a road trip last year when I happened to be in the area, but unfortunately, it was during the winter and the trains weren't running.
@michaelramsey81 dang. Used to be a member back when I was out there more. Amazing ride. Can't believe the number of locos they now have and are restoring to put on the roster
@@TOzzy_ Yeah, I'm a big fan. The harbor scene on the W&SC is based on the OCSR.
A few days ago I went to a diffrent train show at the gateway center. I got a great price on a bachmann modern 4-4-0 with dcc sound brand new for $125! The best deal I've had so far
That's a fantastic deal! Those are really sweet little engines too.
We found a similar Maryland and Pennsylvania 4-4-0 for 150 bucks Dcc but we had already spent enough money lol
And of course a “new” ten wheeler for Mikey, lucky guy
They just seem to gravitate to me somehow.
@ Same here man it’s like a middle of the road wheel arrangement for me. Not to big not to small
Something you can do that is small and easy but really improves the look of the athearn and roundhouse 50’ cars Take small rectangular pieces of styrene, use a knife to put crisscross lines in it then paint black and glue to the end platforms If you get the length right it won’t affect performance at all while also closing the gap and looks like the crossover platforms you usually see on cars like that nowadays
Suggestion on cheap buildings for your O Scale layout menards makes a variety of buildings that are lighted for not much money
I've been looking into getting a couple of Menards buildings. Also considering trying to 3D print custom ones.
Cheap electric G. scale trains and a low price legacy locomotive yes please! Wish I knew about this show, Also love all the classic Lionel and other ho trains, Little bit of a pity about the general, I sold a set for $200, Will you buy a Lionel general if it's at the right price?
G scale for 10 dollars!? Impossible.
To be fair, those cars were in pretty rough shape. But I do kinda wish I'd bought the caboose. I could probably fix it up with some 3D printed parts.
I’ll definitely be at Amherst. I’ll be in the young’s building in section 99 with my chapter.
Awesome, hope to see you there!
What an awesome day! Had an absolute blast. Enjoy some of those finds I set aside!! Thanks for the shoutout 😄
I definitely will! I'm actually so tempted to keep that Legacy engine.
Absolutely awesome show! Had a great time hanging out with you guys and got some incredible deals! Thanks for the shout out by the way! Also, when you’re at the Amherst show, swing by the Providence Northern Model Railroad Club booth! We’ll have a little modular layout set up and I will be manning the booth alongside some of the other members for the later half of the day on Saturday and the whole day on Sunday.
Hows massachusetts? Good to see some progress on the O scale layout!
Loving it so far!
Arlo Guthrie is boilin’ mad at you.
Great idea for painting whitewalls on steam engines, and also running boards. I appreciate it. Excellent video! 👍😁
Casey Jones is so brave! 🚂
Recently jumped on an undecorated one and plan to kitbash it into 3025
No one who ever knew him is still alive. Whoa. That's gonna happen to ALL of us at some point.
Discovered this rabbit hole today and now this documentary, 10/10! Well done on this small piece of great documentation of such a fascinating story and amazing person!
What is that 2:21
It's a Proto 2000 model of a Fairbanks-Morse H-10-44 diesel switcher. Picked it up cheap at a train show. It's currently for sale on my eBay store (@redoaktrains).
Congratulations on 2,000 subscribers
I would recommend sticking to either mth or tmcc command systems as buying tmcc and mth ps3 systems are expensive. The new Lionel controller system is $500 as the mth is not for sale new so it might be worth checking that out
If you are looking for good equipment at a lower price my grandpa has a large amount of weaver brass engines equipped with tmcc and they are wonderful models of medium-smaller size steam locomotives
Somebody should make a feature-length movie about Casey's life, career and death. Wouldn't that be something special?
@@ThomasLover-fr8nh I was thinking the same thing when I had the idea for this video. I figured if I can't make a full biopic, I could at least dramatize the crash itself.
@michaelramsey81 Maybe the crash should be the grand climax of the movie... if it were made.
@@ThomasLover-fr8nh That was my thinking as well.
Did u sell ur kitbashed prairie
@@trainboy7812 I salvaged most of the drivetrain out of it to fix a basket case 2-8-0. The rest I gave to a friend for kitbashing parts.
So basically it's probably not gonna be on the channel anymore
@@trainboy7812 Nope, not unless my friend decides to rebuild it somehow.
Casey before the collision: oh shit!!!!!!!!!!
Lol
What black and white movie was that playin on the screen in your layout?
The General (1926), starring Buster Keaton. You can watch the whole thing for free on RUclips.
6:34 and sometimes the opposite can occur. My IHC/Mehano 4-6-2 am was $19.99, no tender or boiler front but runs and I will track down the parts to make it look good because it already runs.
