Man, I love your honesty. You take the time to break it all down and accept that there will be mistakes. You have exceptional knowledge of finding these beautiful deer. Glad you recovered that one. A dogs nose knows
Dude, first of all congratulations! And thanks for keeping it real. We've all been there before and I'm glad you were able to succeed and bring in the bloodhounds! Congrats again!
I love all the detail you give. Not simply showing the kill but describing your thought process throughout. A fellow PA deer hunter, here.. Appreciate the knowledge transfer and transparency.
Love it, from the maps ( well explained) to the tree footage and the persistence of the recovery ( been there!) that was a great hunt and video! Love those dogs doing their thing they are amazing. A vid like this gets the blood going for the near future thanks Beau!🦌
Good to get a visual on the story of this buck that I have heard about many times on the East Meets West podcast. Congratulations on such a great buck on the first day. God wanted you to have that buck after he didn’t bolt on the first missed shot and gave you another opportunity. We have a couple days left to see if you will repeat first day success. Heck you had first hunt day success in NY too last season. 🏹🦌
Awesome job ! What a stud! I listen to everyone of your podcasts and really enjoy your content you deserve this buck 100% thanks for helping all of us become better hunters! I’m from pa also clarion area.
Good video! There’s always room for error in life, if you hunt enough you’ll eventually make a bad shot. I like how you showed your whole thought process throughout. Heckuva deer! 👏🏻
Can tell most ppl that comment about shot placement have never hunted, couldn’t have said it better, “if you hunt long enough you’ll eventually make a bad shot”
I love your podcasts Beau. I really appreciate you sharing your story from last year. It’s so hard to go through that situation and then to share it is more helpful. I had a similar situation opening day this year. I walked within 20 yards of my buck and couldn’t find it. The blood trail lasted for 10 yards. He ran about 75-100 and died. Unfortunately I didn’t find him til that evening. Double lung pass through but he just didn’t spill blood. You’re exactly right- it happens to us all.
Been waiting for your videos, great job! I don’t watch a video for the kill shot I watch it for the experience and loved the hunt breakdown. Nice job and awesome video man thanks for sharing.
This video really takes me back. It makes me miss Pennsylvania. I almost forgot how beautiful it was there. Also, my Tennesseean wife hates when I pronounce creek “crick” so hearing that again made me smile. Thanks for the video brother and congratulations on that monster.
I just found your channel and love it! Thank you for explaining the wind, trails, and stand set up. I love the PA wilds and agree that it is the challenge and journey that is the real success.
Awesome story! You’re videos have helped me start to understand mountain deer along with others such as Dan Infalt. I’m just getting started hunting mountain bucks in WV and MD, thanks to your content I’ve been able to locate bucks just gotta put myself in the right place like you did in this video.
As soon as you said the dogs name was nova I knew who it was. I know Nick, I used to work with him he is a fantastic guy and does a great job tracking and he knows what he's doing. Congrats, that's a great buck!
Wow. What an old mountain buck. I hope those dogs got special treats for their work. I'm still trying to learn those topo apps. Your videos are always informative and great quality.
Based on the amount of work and studying you put into this situation, you are on your way to filling walls with trophy bucks. And I’m willing to bet you have since practiced that first shot angle. Excellent buck and hunting skills. Great follow up shot, some big bucks can handle devastating wounds a little longer. Awesome content!
I missed three deer in a row in my early bow hunting years. All three were steep angle shots out of a tree stand. Couldn’t figure out for the life of me. I then did a lot of research and found a couple things that aren’t talked about as much. Most bow hunters learn to bend at the waist to maintain your anchor point and have heard the physics of arrow flight is only affected by horizontal distance. But what I found out is that with my set up, my arrow is almost 4” below my sight pins. Essentially your arrow travels up toward your pin. Once you get to 30 yards and out it actually goes over your line of sight and traveles back down to your pin. At the close steep angel shot, the arrow was never able to travel up to my pin, which is exactly why I missed low on those three deer. I learned that if I use my 60yd pin, it will be dead nuts at those steep angles (which gave me an aim point and forced me to aim higher). And this isn’t saying you didn’t already know, but it’s just not talked about often enough when compared to the other basic fundamentals.
Nice buck!! I found a spot on public land that is similar to what you showed in your video . I found some large rubs in a area . I believe he is bedded on the point behind the rubs . I guess I’ll have to try harder and push the envelope.
Opening days are best and worst if you only plan to hunt one state or your state is one buck only. Congrats! I heard you mention the deer were feeding on beech nuts. I have heard other mountain people mention this, but I have never seen anyone show proof. Growing up and learning to gut deer I made the mistake of cutting the guts and have never seen a case where this occurred. Next time you get the opportunity please dive into this some.
They usually don’t eat them until later after frost, and they usually fall later in the year. They’re very small so deer have to feed in them a lot more than they do acorns which makes for excellent hunting. They also taste much better than anything deer eat
Congrats, awesome finding a buck let alone one that nice, did u ever find the other arrow or is there a iron will floating around somewhere in the big woods lol
I enjoy estimating B&C (Boone and Crockett) scores for white tail; 1) I like to practice so when I am in the field I can estimate on the fly. 2) It is fun to see what folks are shooting and engage. 3) All my scores are based on photos you posted to here, thus it may not be accurate. Normal B&C scores are done with a 1/4-inch wide flexible steel tape to the nearest one-eighth of an inch. I do not go to the 1/8 inch. I do whole inches and go off photos and use things in the photos for approximate references! 4) Also, I do gross score and don’t do the whole subtract for atypical stuff. 5) Of note, circumference (mass) is tough to gauge off of photos Based on your photo, my estimate B&C for your deer is: 146 points. Based on time stamp at 13:32 Remember there may be some error due to estimates, thus a margin of error of around 5-8 points. Also some fun facts: -Eyeballs & ears don't grow much if at all. -Eyes are 1 inch in diameter, based on equation of circle, this is equal to 3.14 inches of circumference. (That lets you estimate mass). -Distance from corner of one eyeball to the other averages real close to 4" regardless of age. -The average distance from ear tip to ear tip on an adult whitetail is approximately 16". Inside spread: 30 inches main beams : right- 19 and left 19 mass: Right: 5; 5;4; 5 mass: left: 5;5;4;5 GREAT FREAKIN DEER
I am interested in the patterning you did on this buck. I am new to big woods hunting and I am curious how often was he on that trailcam? Daily, weekly, few times a month? Just trying to understand how often you should have a big woods buck on camera to justify going after him
Great video! Any advice on closing in and narrowing down public land bucks? I hunt public land in WV and have a couple regular bucks(on camera) but can't seem to come across them in the woods, almost like they're always somewhere where I'm not. I've hunted multiple surrounding areas and haven't seen a trace either. Appreciate it!
Great video, and what a buck! His belly looks a bit bloated? Or was he just that fat? Any guess what he would have weighed n the hoof? Congratulations again, now..its going to be a long season after filling that buck tag! Hopefully you can do some doe hunting.
Kinda curious about the start of the season where your at ..As the state opener was Saturday , however your video is posted 4 days ago..which makes that Thursday?
You know your from PA when a creek is a crick... Hell yeah! Salute from NEPA.
Man, I love your honesty. You take the time to break it all down and accept that there will be mistakes. You have exceptional knowledge of finding these beautiful deer. Glad you recovered that one.

Absolute brute of a buck…big woods public land hunting, you can’t beat it, It’s the most rewarding when it all comes together like that! Congrats
That's a slammer of a Pennsylvania buck, love to see this coming from PA! Thank you for the video brother!
Nice buck Beau! We had a dog help us with tracking in a swamp last night. Really cool to watch them work!
Dude, first of all congratulations! And thanks for keeping it real. We've all been there before and I'm glad you were able to succeed and bring in the bloodhounds! Congrats again!
You're right about the people who say they've never wounded one. Part of the game. Thanks for sticking with it.
Way to go Beau! Congratulations on a great PA buck.
Really enjoyed the breakdown of the hunt and how you were able to capitalize on your thermals.
I love all the detail you give. Not simply showing the kill but describing your thought process throughout. A fellow PA deer hunter, here.. Appreciate the knowledge transfer and transparency.

Good to get a visual on the story of this buck that I have heard about many times on the East Meets West podcast.

The dogs are far better at tracking than any human and it's not even close. Beautiful buck! Congrats!

Country there reminds me a bit of Lycoming and Potter where we like to camp. Lovely. Video's worth it for that alone, plus the stud buck on top of it!
I just found your channel and love it! Thank you for explaining the wind, trails, and stand set up. I love the PA wilds and agree that it is the challenge and journey that is the real success.
Thank you so much!! I appreciate you watching. the PA Wilds are a special place!

What a brute! Great work staying with it and finding him!
Has the body of a tank! Good shooting and sticking with it! Congrats!
Great video regardless of not getting the kill on camera. Congratulations!! 🦌
Great video! Really been enjoying your podcasts too.
What a great video thanks for sharing it helps the average hunter in PA

Great video!! Congrats on the one hunt target buck kill. I pulled it off one time and this video reminded me how incredible it really was. Nice work!
Great video you keep it real that's all you can do.
Nice buck.
Thanks Jeffery!

Holy crap that buck is a tank
Congrats, awesome finding a buck let alone one that nice, did u ever find the other arrow or is there a iron will floating around somewhere in the big woods lol
great buck, congrats!
Awesome to see a Catahoula working. Got one of my own. Their nose is defiantly something different
Ive had this same problem. Better tye last couple years. Ive just slowed my whole process down.
I got bound up in a saddle on a close shot like that with a good public land buck. Been hunting from a hang on ever since!
@@BeauMartonik it was my fault as well, inexperience with a saddle. Just didn't want to have it happen again under pressure.
Great job!! Incredible
Good job bud. My brother moved there a few years ago. I’ve been meaning to find time to get down there
Can’t wait… heading down to Curwensville Nov 3 till the 12 for the rut, hopefully I picked the right week.
Any thoughts guys?
Thanks appreciate the feedback
Nice deer and interesting video. I noticed you only packed out the head and cape. Had the meat spoiled?
Do you have a video explaining your climbing system?
Heck yea bud congratulations
I had nick and nova track a deer for me before. Nova advanced the track but we never found the deer but she did really good
good day when you find your deer!
Congratulations🔥🔥
Good video. Like the breakdown
Great attitude man
Congratulations buddy
Damn stud!!! Congrats!!

Hey Beau congrats on the buck. I was wondering what your bow sight is?
Thanks for filming the kill
Great recovery. What sight is on your bow🤘
Map explanation awesome
Great deer
Is this 4C !?
Not to be nosey...but do they charge to track the deer with dogs...if so how much
Did you use your deer tag
Where abouts are you from?
Was this private or public land?
Where in PA?
Great buck. Is that the Spartan forge web app?
My web loggin doesnt work i persume unless this an affliate feature? I cant even look up my zip code for weather anymore. Is my account broken?
What county in PA?
Shame loss the meat but good recovery 👍
Was the meat spoiled?
Coyotes would have eaten him in Arkansas!
What a shitty feeling. I think We all know it too well. Glad it worked out brother
