- We challenged chefs of three different skill levels - amateur Stephen, home cook Julie, and expert bartender Jeff Solomon - to mix us their best Bloody Mary cocktail. Once each level had finished and tasted their final product, we asked food scientist Rose to explain their choices from an expert's perspective. Which Bloody Mary are you having with brunch?

Finally! A bartender, who doesn't call himself mixologist.
I only know one person who calls himself a mixologist but he does invent new cocktails and has won competitions for it. His day job is alcohol sales rep so he doesn't make drinks for customers, in his case I allow it. If you're slinging drinks every day for customers though you're a bartender.
A mixologist is someone who studies the history of mixed drinks and creates their own original drinks or variants of others. Someone can still be a mixologist while being a bartender but most aren't

That's how it's done. Usually made in those big blocks so it's easy to mass produce clear ice.
I have a buddy that does drink competitions and that's what he does.
It’s common in craft bars and as he mentioned there are companies that produce it so a restaurant/bar doesn’t have to. I’d bet the ice companies also supply large blocks for fancy ice sculptures.

Yep. I generally go minimalist when garnishing a cocktail, but I believe that a Bloody Mary is an exception that should be overflowing(like a Pimm's Cup). If you're going to go simple with an herb sprig, then do something over-the-top like attacking it with fire. I approve.
