I love all the versions. Warm, cold or frozen. Knowing how to make a custard opens up so many new recipes and options for dessert. I hope people try it, and with your version they should have no problems. It's such a basic recipe with so many flavor combinations that everybody should find a version they will love.

I LOVE warm custard on gingerbread! Warm is also good on warmed up banana nut bread. But mostly, I like it cold the next day -just on its own as a pudding with a little sprinkle of nutmeg on top. YUM!

I like both. Of course I never had homemade custard before. I have had warm vanilla pudding poured over pound cake, my dad introduced to me growing up. His grandmother served it to him as a child. Grannie was from England. My mom loves chocolate but then most people do. I can't wait to make this myself. Thank you. I'm enjoying your book so much. 🍧🥧

Next i want to try a baked custard using a bain marie inthe oven…how would you describe the difference??
    Edit:
Unfortunately my custard did not set up even after chilled😔 I followed recipe exactly...still tasted good though, just prefer a denser custard, so I will also try a recipe that's baked but also calls for a few whole eggs and 2 yolks

Lisa, when I was little, my grandmother always made my favorite dessert: baked cinnamon raisin rice pudding with a cold pourable vanilla custard on top. She's been gone many years and I never got the recipe, and I cannot figure out how she kept the custard from "congealing". It was an egg based cooked custard like yours, but stayed pourable when cold. Any ideas what she did different from yours?
