I love all the versions. Warm, cold or frozen. Knowing how to make a custard opens up so many new recipes and options for dessert. I hope people try it, and with your version they should have no problems. It's such a basic recipe with so many flavor combinations that everybody should find a version they will love.
Hi Lisa! I just came across your channel a few days ago! I’m a Registered Dietitian and I think it’s a blessing that you are able to manage your Celiac disease by changing your diet to Whole Foods/gluten-free. The recipes and your channel are beautifully done. All the best! 🥳🎈🎈🎈☀️
I LOVE warm custard on gingerbread! Warm is also good on warmed up banana nut bread. But mostly, I like it cold the next day -just on its own as a pudding with a little sprinkle of nutmeg on top. YUM!
I like both. Of course I never had homemade custard before. I have had warm vanilla pudding poured over pound cake, my dad introduced to me growing up. His grandmother served it to him as a child. Grannie was from England. My mom loves chocolate but then most people do. I can't wait to make this myself. Thank you. I'm enjoying your book so much. 🍧🥧
This looks so delish Lisa! I will be attempting this soon for my family. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate the amazing recipes you share. Would love more low/very minimal natural sugar dessert recipes! ❤
This Custard looks delectable! Such a great idea, I've never made custard before. I got excited when you mentioned the apple crisp recipe! Looking forward to it!
Would you believe that this morning I made some drinking custard which is currently in the refrigerator chilling, with a vanilla bean and a half of a teaspoon of almond extract! I thought about making this thick chilled version but wasn't sure of the proper measurements... Now to see this notification! 😅 I will be trying this one though! Thanks! ❤
Custard is one of my favorite things in the world!! I love mine chilled. Your flourless chocolate cake is now a staple on our Jewish holidays - either when I'm cooking a feast, and need a delicious/addictive, easy dessert or during the holiday where we don't eat leavened foods (Passover) And I'm so excited for the apple crumble! I think I asked you to make one in the future!!! I cannot wait!!
I’ve only had chilled and I LOVE it! Huge custard fan. Crème brûlée is my favorite dessert too. 😋 I’ll need to try the warm version bc it looks good too.
We’re beginning our journey cutting out refined sugar, flour, and some grains. My husband has a sweet tooth so it’s harder for him. I will be making this recipe soon, and trying your flourless chocolate cake soon, too. Thank you!
That looks delicious. I have always loved vanilla custard and haven't had it in quite a while because boxed can't possibly be the same. I'm definitely trying this. Thank you! I ❤ your channel!!
I like to mix everything up while everything is cold and bring to simmer while constantly mixing and of course till it thickens. This way I cut out the xtra step of adding hot mixture first to the egg mixture.
I actually love the skin of custard or cooked pudding. It's much easier to snag a "cook's share" by peeling off the skin than trying to scrape it off the cling film.
Just made this and it is good and pretty fast to make. The only thing i added was a pinch of salt that made it all the better IMHO☺️ Next i want to try a baked custard using a bain marie inthe oven…how would you describe the difference?? Edit: Unfortunately my custard did not set up even after chilled😔 I followed recipe exactly...still tasted good though, just prefer a denser custard, so I will also try a recipe that's baked but also calls for a few whole eggs and 2 yolks
Lisa, when I was little, my grandmother always made my favorite dessert: baked cinnamon raisin rice pudding with a cold pourable vanilla custard on top. She's been gone many years and I never got the recipe, and I cannot figure out how she kept the custard from "congealing". It was an egg based cooked custard like yours, but stayed pourable when cold. Any ideas what she did different from yours?
I think I’ve only had custard a few times in my life, and it was always chilled (I’m American). But when I took a trip to the UK, I fell in love with having chocolate cake served with cream drizzled over it, so I definitely want to try the warm version!
Awesome job! Your recipes are always innovative, unique and awesome 👌 Very interesting to watch the entire process. Directions are simple and easy to follow. Perfect techniques are used to execute the process superbly .Incredible job done. 👍🙂Thanks Chef for marvellous job🙂🙂🙂 God bless you enormously forever! 🙂
Lovely! Thank you. As an American I prefer it cold and thick hehe. But as a topper I do like it thin and warm so I like both? But over all def cold is my go to for eating.
YUM! Terrific options. ummm....I guess I would prefer the warm, but both look amazing. Tho I love all your vids, It was fun to see/hear you speaking at the end of the video.
I love vanilla custard. Prefer it warm, but will eat it anyway. Thanks for this recipe. I’m subscribing and checking out your website. I like the way you present.
To be honest, I haven’t ever eaten warm custard. But you have definitely sold me on it. I just had crème brûlée for dessert last night. I am excited to make your custard recipe!
I read the Recipe page. Thanks for providing that. If I want to convert this to a chocolate custard, I assume I would not use Vanilla. Could I use chocolate powder? If so, how much? Or,would I melt chocolate, and how much? Or, is that a whole new video?
Amazing as always!! We are in the search for homemade gluten free gingerbread house! I'm thinking my basic cashew frosting to keep it dairy free but have no idea on the colorings
Those left over egg whites, besides being delicious in your flourless chocolate cake, would be used well in a financier (I truly think the recipe could be modified to work for you by substituting your favorite flour for the wheat flour). Love it warm or cold. Or like true brûlée- cold with the warm sugar topping - YUM!!!
So which do you prefer.... warm or chilled?? xo - Lisa
Chilled
Chilled definitely
Warm!
Both!
Both!😅
I love all the versions. Warm, cold or frozen. Knowing how to make a custard opens up so many new recipes and options for dessert. I hope people try it, and with your version they should have no problems. It's such a basic recipe with so many flavor combinations that everybody should find a version they will love.
Agreed! It really is such a versatile dessert and knowing how to make a simple custard is always good to know 😉

My Mother born in turn of century 1900's always made custard for Christmas. Using her Mother's recipe. ❤
I LOVE warm custard on gingerbread! Warm is also good on warmed up banana nut bread. But mostly, I like it cold the next day -just on its own as a pudding with a little sprinkle of nutmeg on top. YUM!
Oh yes! Custard drizzled on banana bread is super delicious.
Yum❤
Those sound so good!
These look wonderful! And the fact that you use healthy ingredients is even better.
Just like you I don’t discriminate, warm or chilled both ways incredible. Thank you for this recipe ❤
Both ways are so delicious! Hope you enjoy 😉
I love it either way. Mom use to make it warm for us when we were sick. Soooooo good.
Excited for you to make this custard then! Gotta love nostalgic recipes.
This looks so delish Lisa! I will be attempting this soon for my family. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate the amazing recipes you share. Would love more low/very minimal natural sugar dessert recipes! ❤
Aw, thanks so much for your feedback! Hope you and your family enjoy this custard 😉

I thought about making this thick chilled version but wasn't sure of the proper measurements... Now to see this notification! 😅 I will be trying this one though! Thanks! ❤
What a coincidence! Now you can try the chilled version now without fail 😉
@bessredzz Recipe link?? I’ve been trying to replicate my grandmothers Boiled Custard for years. This vanilla custard recipe seems very close! ❤
Custard is one of my favorite things in the world!! I love mine chilled.
Your flourless chocolate cake is now a staple on our Jewish holidays - either when I'm cooking a feast, and need a delicious/addictive, easy dessert or during the holiday where we don't eat leavened foods (Passover)
And I'm so excited for the apple crumble! I think I asked you to make one in the future!!! I cannot wait!!
I'm so glad you love the flourless chocolate cake! ❤️ And can't wait for you to make the apple crumble next. But first, this custard!
Shabbat Shalom!
My favorite is baked egg custard. But this stirred custard looks delicious too!! Love lots of fresh grated nutmeg on it.
I’ve only had chilled and I LOVE it! Huge custard fan. Crème brûlée is my favorite dessert too. 😋 I’ll need to try the warm version bc it looks good too.
Yes, definitely give it a try and let me know what you think!
I do like it hot,and cold for company. Thanks.😊
Frozen!! In a cone!! Yummy. Chilled for sure!
I made the flourless chocolate cake before and it was heavenly 😋
This looks amazing.. can't wait to try it chilled. Thanks Lisa!!
Glad you love the flourless chocolate cake! Hope you enjoy this custard next 😊
Oh! My my!! I like the rolly polly pudding and the black berry pie. 😂 I like custard warm or cold. I love Crème Brulé
Chilled for sure...love it with fruit.
We’re beginning our journey cutting out refined sugar, flour, and some grains. My husband has a sweet tooth so it’s harder for him. I will be making this recipe soon, and trying your flourless chocolate cake soon, too. Thank you!
Hope you enjoy both desserts! 😉
My favorite childhood dessert was dukat cakes/buns with warm custard. I still make it nowadays for my family here in US. Recipe is from Slovakia.
It really is such a nostalgic recipe 😉
i love pena cotta and custord and your kitchen lisa , thank you
Hope you enjoy this recipe!
Both please!! Thank you !
That looks delicious. I have always loved vanilla custard and haven't had it in quite a while because boxed can't possibly be the same. I'm definitely trying this. Thank you! I ❤ your channel!!
Hope you enjoy this recipe!
Looks delicious. My mom has been wanting custard and now I have an exciting new recipe! Thank you.😊
What perfect timing! Hope you both enjoy this recipe 😊
I’m with you. Either way. Hot custard drizzled over a fruity pudding or chilled in a trifle. Both delicious.
I like to mix everything up while everything is cold and bring to simmer while constantly mixing and of course till it thickens. This way I cut out the xtra step of adding hot mixture first to the egg mixture.
and I prefer it warm but love it cold as well. I also like it in my crepes
Mmm 😋👍🏼
In Austria 🇦🇹 they serve it warm over a room temperature apple strudel with some vanilla ice cream 😊😉.
Sounds delicious! Thanks for sharing.
I actually love the skin of custard or cooked pudding. It's much easier to snag a "cook's share" by peeling off the skin than trying to scrape it off the cling film.
Amazing job! They both look great!
Love them both. Thanks for the amazing recipe.
Just lovely ❤ As for warm or chilled… 🤔 Hmm… Warm. No wait! Chilled. NO, WARM! Ok, both!!
Love both. Love custard with port wine jelly….warm custard with boiled fruit cake
Sounds delicious!❤
I prefer it chilled but honestly love them both 😋 and will definitely be making this soon! thank you!!
Can't wait for you to make this custard dessert!
Just made this and it is good and pretty fast to make. The only thing i added was a pinch of salt that made it all the better IMHO☺️

Great recipe! I love the cold one. It’s so delicious. I grew up eating this tasty dessert. Thank you for sharing!!!🤗
Thank you!!! Excellent recipe.
Love them both! 🇨🇦 warm over Christmas plum pudding, chilled with berries, as creme brulle ❤❤❤
So many ways to enjoy this!
Sounds wonderful!❤
I love all the version. Thanks for showing this Liza. I didn’t know it’s this simple 😊love love it❤
Yes, so simple and easy! Enjoy 😉
Thanks again for sharing ❤❤❤

You'll definitely need to try this recipe then!
Delicious and easy ! Thank you ! ❤❤🌷🎉❤
My mom uses this in banana pudding. So good!!
Made this. Turned out great. Reminded me of my mom's recipe
I like that you don’t need to bake this in the oven with a water bath!
Most creme brûlée recipes call for that.
Will try making this today🥰
Hope you love this custard recipe!
Mouth-watering and also healthy!!! ❤️❤️ Perfect!😊
It looks delicious. I must try this recipe! Thanks for sharing it, Lisa!
Can't wait for you to try this custard!

Both, warm and chilled. Lisa, I like creme Brule as well.
Yes, being British definitely warm every time. Although I wouldnt say no, to the cold, I mean, who is going to turn down desert? He he.
I’ve never made custard using honey, always with sugar so happy to give this a go. Will make them tomorrow along with the flourless choc cake!😅
Hope you enjoy both desserts!
Thanks will try and will let you know the outcome.
Do report back! 😉
This looks soooooooo delish!!!!❤
Could you make a custard with coconut cream? I love your recipes and make MANY! Love your cook book❤

This would be a great donut filling ❤
Lovely! Thank you. As an American I prefer it cold and thick hehe. But as a topper I do like it thin and warm so I like both? But over all def cold is my go to for eating.
I think I'm with you there, but both ways are honestly so delicious 😊

Definitely would have to be the chilled custard.

Amazing recipe video
Thanks so much!
I read the Recipe page. Thanks for providing that. If I want to convert this to a chocolate custard, I assume I would not use Vanilla. Could I use chocolate powder? If so, how much? Or,would I melt chocolate, and how much? Or, is that a whole new video?
Hmm, I'm not sure. I would have to test that out! 🙂
Gonna try it!
Μπράβο Λίζα!! 😊
Delicious 😋 as it is everything you make❤
I will try the vanilla custard.
Hope you love this new dessert!
Thank you. 🌺
Enjoy this delicious vanilla custard!
Looks delicious ❣️
looks delicious, is this like the British custard?
I'm American and prefer the thicker chilled custard 😊
This looks delicious! Can this custard recipe be used for making bread pudding that needs to bake in the oven?
DOUBLE BOILER!!!!!!!
Hello love your recipes. Do you have a carrot cake one? ❤
Yes! I have a carrot cake recipe here: downshiftology.com/recipes/gluten-free-carrot-cake/
@@Downshiftology Thank you! I'm going to try it out. 💕
How would I modify this recipe to make a white chocolate creme brulee? Great job love your channel ans cook book. Keep it up, keeping us healthy
Thank you for a delicious gluten free recipe!❤
Of course! Hope you enjoy 😊
Liked it. 2 tbls honey was not enough IMHO. I actually doubled it.
Amazing as always!! We are in the search for homemade gluten free gingerbread house! I'm thinking my basic cashew frosting to keep it dairy free but have no idea on the colorings
10:10 I have pyrex bowls, but the lids don't have that tab... is that new? Or something else?💖🌞🌵 😷
We don’t have heavy cream in Turkey but just cream ( which we use for soups or making creme Shanti for example) what do you recommend to replace? :)
Replacing milk for coconut milk could work?
Those left over egg whites, besides being delicious in your flourless chocolate cake, would be used well in a financier (I truly think the recipe could be modified to work for you by substituting your favorite flour for the wheat flour). Love it warm or cold. Or like true brûlée- cold with the warm sugar topping - YUM!!!
Absolutely! You could even save them for an egg white scramble 😉
The custard & cake sounds yummy. I have made your mug chocolate cake which is lovely if you want something quick & yummy for one person.
Yes! This would be great with my chocolate mug cake as well.
Both ways 😉
Chilled!
Chilled custard is always a win!
Thank you Lisa. Is there a way to sub the dairy ? Which milk should i use to make it dairy free but still yummy?
I wasnt that far away with my Guess 🤗 i made your Beef Stew today and it turned out amazing 🤪 that custard is till next Weekend in my Belly 😊
Can't wait for you to make this custard next! And yes, you weren't too far 😂
