Dreamcatcher are a really cool group! They debuted with the intention of standing out, so they took on an unpopular genre and concept for girl groups and have been running with it ever since. They don't aim to be trendy so they fail to reach mainstream audiences, but have garnered a loyal fanbase because they cater to such a niche demographic.
Happyface Entertainment and Dreamcatcher took the Horror concept seriously so the group (re-)debuted on Friday the Thirteenth (January 2017). 'Chase Me' is the Title Track of an album called 'Nightmare'. :)
"unpopular genre" lmfaooooooo they literally switched to pseudo-rock from MINX's DALSHABET sound just cause BABYMETAL started getting way too famous "unpopular genre" lmfaooooooo delusional somnias fr lol
The MV is dense with information, so one or two viewings will not get a lot of the story being told here. I've spent a lot of time going over the video in slow motion then freezing the frame at important points. Some of the details are only on the screen for two or three frames. The guy is a ghost hunter called to a hotel in Switzerland to investigate strange occurrences in the building. He finds the ghosts of seven young women and his reaction, which is shown on his face at the end, is greed. He wants to catch them and keep them as his own personal playthings. He also finds something in the girl's room that will help him catch them. You'll have to watch Good Night, the second song in the series, to see what he does with it. The intro to the second album is called My Toys (the most satisfying rock guitar solo I've heard in a long time). There are seven songs in the Nightmare story arc. Chase Me, Good Night, Fly High, You and I, What, Piri, and Breaking Out.
Other details: most/all (?) of the paintings in the music video are "Vanitas"; paintings meant to depict the certainty of death, transience of life, etc. Typical motifs in such artworks include skulls, candles, clocks, etc. One of them isn't a painting though; the "infinite vanitas" is actually a photo by a contemporary artist. Oh, and they're wearing their Yukatas with the right side wrapped over the left; this is how you would dress a deceased person. There are also two books called "Retreat, Hell!" and "Never Goin' Back".
Excellent Summary, have you ever considered that the “Nightmare Hunter” may actually be the boy from the Full Moon teaser? I believe, one of the girls puts a love spell on him and even years later he is still “Chasing” her. It is the association of cameras and the notes pinned to the wall that lead me to this conclusion. Thoughts?
Omg i am so happy as a StaySomnia seeing Dreamcatcher too in your channel!! You can check their tracks too. Their musics are mostly different than usual kpop sound. And some of the Ateez and Dreamcatcher's producers are same like Leez and Ollounder
@Vinnybin How nice. Apart from Stray Kids and Dreamcatcher, Ateez is one of my favorite groups that i have been listening to for a long time. They have many good songs to discover.
This was their debut song, and the next 3 releases (Good Night, Fly High, and You & I) are all part of a continuous story! They have a few different storyline sets throughout their discography which is pretty cool
Welcome to the Dreamworld! Dreamcatcher are very unique. They are the dark angels of Kpop and the only girl group who consistently incorporate Rock and Metal in their title tracks, fusing that with Kpop into something that basically is a new genre. They also are drenched in horror and social criticism, which again is special. Plus, they are massively talented, all of them. And while the girls look like they could rip out your spine when they are on stage, off stage they are adorable crackheads. 😉 "Chase me" was their debut, released on January 13th (a Friday), 2017. It must have been nerve-wrecking for the members, re-debuting with a genre that is not popular in Korea after Minx failed. (5 of them were Minx before.) But they already doubled their sales with this. And they stuck with the Rock/Metal vibe until today, now selling 50 times the albums than Minx did. This is the start of the Nightmare arc, which spans 6 MVs and 1 Japanese release. They are Nightmares here, and the Nightmare hunter is trying to dispel them - how that turns out is shown in the next one, Good Night. Their dance costume here is like a shortened Yukata, except wrapped right over left, something that's usually only done for the deceased. Fits well into the horror concept!
ahh omg i’m so glad you’ve checked out dreamcatcher!! these girls as well as stray kids are my ult groups and i’ve been with them both since their respective debuts (and yes, i mean minx) they’re so worthwhile, i hope you decide to dive into their discography as well :)
Thanks for checking out Dreamcatcher! Dreamcatcher's music has a lot of dynamics and contrast in it, it's one of their signature things, aside from the rock/metal influences in their title tracks. You should definitely continue on with the Nightmare series. The next song Good Night is a direct sequel and the song after that, Fly High, is a prequel that takes place 100 years before Chase Me. Fly High is probably their "poppiest" title track but it's still got that mix of heavy and pop. The girls don't play the instruments for their songs but many of them can play instruments. They have done a good bit of writing and composition in their discography with around 30 - 40% of their songs have some direct contribution from the members. Their producers are the ones who play the instruments for their songs and they occasionally bring in outside artists to collab. For instance, Pontus Norgren helped to write their Japanese song No More and he played guitar on that track as well.
Dreamcatcher is a girl group (as opposed to a band) so they don't play the instruments themselves. Groups in kpop have more focus on singing, rapping, dance & performance.
oh I remember that I was gonna suggest "Come Back To Me by The Rose " so I'm here again , The Rose are a Korean indie-rock band so everything's live there so I think that you're gonna like them too .
This was their debut song, I hope you keep watching this storyline, there are 6 more songs in the Nightmare series: Good Night, Fly High (it's a prequel btw), You and I, What, Piri and Breaking Out (Alternative ending) If you want a heavier sound from them they definitlely have those too. I'll list a couple that have music videos: Justice (latest release), Scream (part 1 of Distopya trilogy), Vision (Part 2 of Apocalypse trilogy), The Curse of The Spider (2024 Concert Ver.)... Note that this songs are part of a storyline, so maybe you wanna check out their other songs first.
Dreamcatcher is very Rock and Roll! They do NOT play their own instruments BUT they like to melt the pop and rock in most of their songs I believe? I’m still new to them but I would recommend their MV for Boca (zombie ver.) I think that’s what it’s labeled???
I have heard really good things about Dreamcatcher, but I have never gotten the chance to check them out! So cool to have my first reaction be here too
Welcome to Dreamcatcher. Yes, there are two more parts to this story line, as has been mentioned elsewhere. For something very Halloween-y, they have a zombie version of one of their songs that might be fun for you to watch. The song is called "Boca", but here is the link to the zombie version: ruclips.net/video/yAuJuHI00g8/видео.htmlsi=utZW_O1BXwMPR-vo Hopefully you'll stick around with Dreamcatcher to find where this song fits in their discography, but for now it's a fun one-off video. For some more of the heavier rock sound, might I suggest to you "Endless Night" MV and "No More" and "Don't Light My Fire" (No MV for those two). Dreamcatcher: Come for the talent. Stay for the chaos.
I love dreamcatcher sooooo much, they aren't as popular as say skz or ateez, but pls continue reacting to them!!! I love your comments and how you actually try to look at the little details, and i love this group so much!!!!
I really hope you also check out lyrics of any Dreamcatcher song you decide to react to. Dreamcatcher always has thought-provoking deep lyrics. As with most K-Pop Music Videos, their stuff is pretty cinematic and there is a storyline that you just opened the first chapter of (called the Nightmare Series). In Korean music (as with most Western countries), a Band is labeled as a Band if they actually play instruments. If they don't play instruments during their sets, they would be a Group instead of a Band. Dreamcatcher is considered a Group. Although some of the members CAN play instruments, they do not often do so, that's not what they are about for the most part; they sing, they dance, they rap, they move around a lot on stage. Dreamcatcher's only Foreign member, Han Dong, is from Wuhan, China; she can play Drums and Piano, as far as I know. She actually was taught to play Drums by the drummer of a Korean Rock Band, Rolling Quartz (they are awesome as well and have covered a Dreamcatcher song).
Dreamcatcher Good Night is the direct sequel to this MV and Fly High is a prequell. Both have horror elements too so great Halloween MVs. I do recommend BEcause too, the MV is inspired by a horror movie (I forgot the name unfortunately) and the song is obviously amazing (and it is a more recent song so it experiments more with combining their rock style with other genres than their earlier songs) all their songs are amazing but these are the videos with horror vibes ^^
AHH YOURE REACTING TO DREAMCATCHER!!! StaySomnia UNITEEE!!! Oh if you want to do another girl group, i recommend NMIXX! As the name suggest, they mix things! As in, they take two or more genre/concept and put it in one song! And i have to say, their vocals are NO JOKE! Like, ALL of them are amazing.
OH MY GOD DREAMCATCHER???? They're my favourite girl kpop group and Chase Me is one of the greatest debuts ever BUT i definitely wasn't expecting you to react to them especially with the music video

Some of DCs more recent songs go hard. Maybe try Shatter, Justice or maybe Bon Voyage. They have a unique sound and get experimental with it. They are incredible live too and when they are with a live band. I hope you both get to know and love them!
Here are some more Halloween songs for you: (G)I-DLE - Oh my god (watch with its mv), Dark (X file), Villain dies, Revenge (watch with its mv), Doll, I want that (watch with its mv), Put it straight (Nightmare ver.) LOVE Red Velvet! They’re def on the pop/rb side of kpop over the noise music side, but their vocals are unmatched. As far as full group songs, Chill Kill and Peek-a-Boo might have the creepiest vibes, but even Cosmic’s music video works with its Midsommar inspiration. Or maybe even Russian Roulette, which has such a fun, poppy sound, but then the mv is them doing like tom and jerry level violence against each other 😂
I'm liking your reactions, Tony, thank you! As a fellow rock fan and a dreamcatcher follower, I would suggest you to check out Scream, DejaVu, Justice, 2 Rings, Stomp, GoodNight, Maison and Vision. They have many albums and all are really good and based in a mix of Rock/EDM into the pop genre. It is truly unique and their vocals go very well with the Rock and also with the non-rock. Gotta play Good Night continuing the Nightmare series, more rock more Deukae (Dreamcatcher) Also Stranger by Sunmi, a fun tale. and Voodoo Doll by Vixx for a mood. Happy Hallows.
I think you'd have some fun with the dichotomy of the rock/metal sound and female vocals with BABYMETAL! One of their older songs Road Of Resistance has guitar credits from Dragonforce on the album (the official video has live audio/video from the concert recorded), and they play with a ton of different subgenres depending on the song. I'd recommend that song and then their album Metal Galaxy - There's guest credits for members of Sabaton, Arch Enemy, Polyphia, and B'z, and thai rapper F. Hero.
This is actually my first time listening to Dreamcatcher, this was actually really good. The chorus especially😁 I really do recommend Ateez Not Okay MV, I really believe you would enjoy the music and the creepy video😁
I highly recommend you listen to (g)i-dle, they are a girl group. The song "oh my god" and ‘revenge" is pretty scary AND ITS AMAZING I hope you listen to this band someday anyway ❤️
Please listen to My Toys and then GOOD NIGHT! Both are amazing and i really think you would enjoy listening :). Im a big fan of both Dreamcatcher and SKZ i was so excited to watch this video. I hope you listen to more dreamcatcher to. Love the videos!!!
Please can I suggest NMixx - See that MV it’s INCREDIBLE with headphones and the music video has some amazing shots. Super talented group, managed by the same company as Skz as well.
totally hear what you mean with the vocals being more of a pop sound. That's one of the reasons I couldn't get into it as much I think. but I do like some of their songs, depends on the song for me lol
I gave this a listen, but I'm really not into it. There's elements of girl Kpop groups that don't sit right with me. Japanese girl groups are much better (in my opinion).
theyre not a band.. they're a group.. a band is made up of actually talented people who write their own music and play their own instruments and their success isn't dependent on how young skinny and attractive the members are.. their value is based on their actual music merit and nothing else. so please.. dont belittle the meaning of the word band when talking about kpop idols.. these people are simply temporary models for hire. nothing more.

I highly recommend you listen to (g)i-dle, they are a girl group. The song "oh my god" and ‘revenge" is pretty scary AND ITS AMAZING
I hope you listen to this band someday anyway ❤️
Please listen to My Toys and then GOOD NIGHT! Both are amazing and i really think you would enjoy listening :). Im a big fan of both Dreamcatcher and SKZ i was so excited to watch this video. I hope you listen to more dreamcatcher to. Love the videos!!!
I don’t know if it’s been mentioned before, but Dreamcatcher and Ateez have an overlap of producers.
Please can I suggest NMixx - See that MV it’s INCREDIBLE with headphones and the music video has some amazing shots. Super talented group, managed by the same company as Skz as well.
Nmixx are some of my ult girlies. I have a feeling he’d appreciate the music, even if it’s not entirely his taste.
Yeah he would probably like some of nmixxes music but not all. Things like sonar or tank and maybe o.o just for the sheer fun of how different it was
justice nexttt
totally hear what you mean with the vocals being more of a pop sound. That's one of the reasons I couldn't get into it as much I think. but I do like some of their songs, depends on the song for me lol
Exactly this. I'm not a stan stan but some of the songs that do land on my pl are among my favs. And I love Damis voice
I usually do not listen to girl kpop so I discovered with you
Good try 👍
I literally just discovered this right now haha, but if you're still looking for halloween vibes : Zombie by Everglow is quite good :)
Boca
Too many pauses, I pass by and I don't see it anymore
I gave this a listen, but I'm really not into it. There's elements of girl Kpop groups that don't sit right with me. Japanese girl groups are much better (in my opinion).
theyre not a band.. they're a group.. a band is made up of actually talented people who write their own music and play their own instruments
and their success isn't dependent on how young skinny and attractive the members are.. their value is based on their actual music merit and nothing else.
so please.. dont belittle the meaning of the word band when talking about kpop idols..
these people are simply temporary models for hire. nothing more.
