Awesome video! This was the first time we saw footage regarding the tree incident. My son and I spent almost a week with our Big Boy! We stayed the night in Colfax to witness the engine start from a stopped position. It didn't happen, but you caught the excitement my son had when the train passed through Colfax! Thank you, for being so polite when you found a position to film (in Colfax), yet not block anyone's field of vision!
Thank you, thank you, thank you for this! I was unable to go see him as I was working a craft fair that day. I'm not sure why, but I absolutely love this engine. It makes me so emotional everytime I see it and hear it. So thank you! And also fir explaining the delay. This is definitely the best video out there!! ❤
Oh to have been a passenger in that observation car like back in the old days aboard the 4449 several times, private cars and the 2472 for the centennial of North meeting South after the completion of the tunnels on Cuesta grade! Fun times galore!!!
Beautiful very good machine ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ you science education original you made things wonderful good useful make human life happy God bless you and protect you
This is why the baggage cars directly behind the loco. The steam crew carry their portable steam repair shop on tour. So in cases like this, they can make needed repairs on site!
Love your SBTB Intro with the Ace cab car. The engineer (also a railfan) in that photo is Will Ayers, who passed away over a year ago. He was my childhood friend in San Diego. It brought a tear to my eye when I saw that. Aside from that, great shots of 4014.
It is interesting that as kids we were told it was called a cow catcher instead of “pilot” it’s real name. It is connected to a pilot bar, imagine that.
Do you have any idea where they took the 1983 WP engine and the rest of the cars during the repair? You can see just the 4014 and the two fuel tenders while they were working on the 4014, but the rest of the train is gone.
It amazes me that they brag about this being the BIGGEST ENGINE EVER but they didn't go out along the tracks to check for and obstacles, like? TREES.????
19:43.....everyone gathering up their coins they laid on the tracks for souvenirs!! Ah, but whose coin is whose after they get tossed here and there by the wheels??
The people you see in Colfax had been waiting for over four hours. When the Big Boy finally arrived, everyone rushed to the tracks. I was forced to move back in order to see and film. You can see my family and friends in the video. My son has been waiting for YEARS to have this moment and you can clearly see his excitement! The camara-man was very polite (I had to review my footage to see who it was), but most people who rushed in front of us were rude. So, you can "wish people didn't stand right in front of the camera," but after four hours of waiting, the young man filming this didn't have much of a choice. Too many people.
You are only one today who showed why the train was late. Going to meet train in Lovelock tomorrow, no trees near tracks out here.
Great job, thanks for sharing!!!
I didn't think a tree would be a problem for such a big choo-choo! It’s just amazing that a lot of people came out to see it.

I like the guy at 6:38 directing traffic that no body was paying attention to.
It wasn't this passed Thursday, it was this PAST Thursday.
2:58 Impressive close the stacks before tunnels

Looks like the front right lower step on the side of the cowcatcher broke off from hitting the tree!
It is interesting that as kids we were told it was called a cow catcher instead of “pilot” it’s real name. It is connected to a pilot bar, imagine that.
You also forgot that the brake on one of the UP cars caught fire.
Same tree problem James had in Thomas and Friends!
Looks like the whole town came to see the train
Strange how a tree just happened to fall so near the tracks.....
Especially since crews have gone through there.
That species is prone to suddenly falling. Especially after a prolonged heat wave.

A train and a hi rail vehicle passed through that area just fine a few hours before 4014 did. The tree fell just at the wrong time.
👍

Why can't the Indian Railways bring this type of Steam 🚂🚒🚃 Engines to promote Tourism at OOTY in Tamilnadu, India.
200th like!!!
What are the gunslingers for? It's a train.

I wonder how much money was smashed that day.
I guess a lot of people don;t understand what 25' back is.
